    Default Atari Age in Vegas?

What's the story with AGE? I happen to be in the industry and recently heard from a friend at Activision that Atari Age is planning to do a show in Las Vegas.

What bothers me about this is that it seems to be another deliberate attempt to damage the CGE show. According to my contact, Alex and Albert have teamed up with Ken Love of Activision, a very anti-CGE person, and are planning to do a show in Las Vegas a few weeks before the next CGE. Their sole intent is to try to detract from the CGE show, as they did last year when they held their show 2 weeks before CGE.

Is this why there has been no AGE show announced to date? I live in Vegas and as much as I miss CGE, I certainly wouldn't attend AGE or any other Atari Age show after hearing this. With all the peace offerings being offered up by DP and CGE, it's becoming quite clear who is really trying to perpetuate this "feud". I'd like to see all this nonsense come to an end and the CGE/DP people are doing their part. How come I've heard nothing likewise from Atari Age, Ken Love, or any of the other parties involved?

Just for your info, I posted the exact same message on Atari Age and within 2 hours the whole topic was deleted and I was removed as an active user.

gasp! a convention in vegas! its only the convention capital of america... sole intent is pretty over the top, planning and setting up a convention isnt something you do just for spite.

if you choose to skip out on a major classic gaming show in your neck of the woods then you're just lame, if i could i'd attend all of them because i like the hobby.

yes, and in this case it would be "you".

thanks for signing up to spread the peace bro!

Well, Las Vegas does have its supporters, but I don't see this damaging Classic Gaming Expo. Two reasons.

First, there is only one Classic Gaming Expo, and the show and its organizers () have a long and solid reputation with its guests, exhibitors, and alumni.

Second, if you attended the San Jose event this year then you know that the show drew more walk-in attendance than out-of-town, pre-registered guests. That was the plan: move the show to a higher local population area, one that is close and convenient to the roots of the industry itself.

I can't say I'd be surprised if a gaming event cropped up in Vegas next year, but I wouldn't get too bothered by it. We're not!

Huh, that'd be interesting if true. Since the "A" in AGE stands for "Austin," there'd be a name-change, I reckon. "VGE," perhaps?

Actually, in a way, I hope this isn't true. I heard that AGE was great simply because it WAS held in Texas. Folks in TX, OK, and the southwest area finally had a big-ass meet to call their own. They had a ton of walk-ins from the Austin area too. Posted decent attendance due to it, in fact.
They'd lose all of that and would have to rely solely on fly-in attendees - which is precisely what prompted CGE to relocate. Can't see why that'd be a good idea to relocate an already-successful meet there.

But I said kinda the same thing about CGE's move to CA, so I may very well be proven wrong again. It'll be interesting to see what happens. I know a lot of folks were disappointed by the lack of AGE this year.

It wouldn't surprise me at all, as there have been many, many posts from people on both boards complaining about the move. From a business standpoint, it makes total sense to see an opportunity and take advantage of it. Seeing as though AA is based in Texas (I think?), it seems like an odd move to get off of home territory.

Like Sniderman said, it would suck for me (living in Oklahoma).

I agree...I can't tell you how many people have asked why there was no AGE this year (people in Austin). Vegas is a good 24 hour drive from here, so it's doubtful that it would have as many people attend as the Austin show. I'm sure Albert has thought this thru and has good reasoning for it, but it doesn't seem like a sound decision to me. Guess we're back down to nothing here!
The box said 'Requires Windows 95, or better', so I bought a Macintosh.

    * hops up and down and points MacGurl to OKGE 2004 thread *

Not trying to drive any wedges in between anyone and anyone else here, really. Just pointing out that, as a wisecracking hover-powered robot in a Disney flick once said, "There are alternatives."

    Hope to see ya there!
