My Gaming Collection (Now at Google Drive!)
I caught the demo playing at Gamestop and must say I was impressed. The clarity seemed decent and the sound was good. I just watched it quickly maybe 30 secs or so. When they hit discount bins ( or just drop down) I plan on buying the whole set. Its a neat idea.

If I wanted to watch cartoons, I'd rather just turn on my TV.
Please tell me were you got a tv that fits in your pocket, doesnt need battery or a plug and you can get reception anywere. Ignorance, you didnt even bother to think beyond the basics.Originally Posted by Sibs

i think the whole idea of the GBA Video is pretty dumb right now...as it is all childrens shows....maybe if they came out with a more adult oriented product i would buy one, but i dont see nintendo doing that, so i dont see myself buying any of these
if you like the cartoons that are out now, then these things are good for you, since you can take them anywhere.....but, for me, they need something a lot better for me to change my mind

Whats the deal with the GB Player incompatibility?
Intentional cart/program design to lock it out?
or design flaw/alternate design used withn the GB Player itself?

Although im not sure I would almost guarantee that it has to do with the contracts with the dvd companys. Would make sense after all.Originally Posted by Alex Kidd
Has anybody ever seen the armagedon trailer you can play from a GB emulator. It is neat-o.

It's a great idea, but for $20 I'd rather just pass. If there were actually non-kiddie shows, or cartoons like Family Guy, I may have to splurge.
As a big fan of Pokemon....I may just end up buying these....but not at that price. For that price, I can buy the DVD sets and get more episodes per disc.

I bought one just out of curiosity. I'm a bit of a cartoon junkie, and Spongebob is as good as it gets, so I got one of the two available. The picture is good enough quality, though not great. Mouths don't always move with the words right. The sound was spot on. I think somebody mentioned it in another thread, but at least with the Spongebob carts, the episodes don't match what is advertised on the box. Weirdness, and a bit dissapointing, but I liked the ones I ended up with anyways.
Overall, I like them, but $20 is a bit high. Its great for road-trips and plane rides (I tried it out on a flight to Seattle)--just long enough to get in the air, watch for a bit, then put it away for landing. The controls are great--a lot like a DVD is set up, and you can pause, mute, rewind, fast forward, skips chapters, etc. all with the GBA controls. A good first effort, and I'm sure if these catch on, that quality will improve over time.

I picked up one of the Spongebob carts for my older son and was impressed with the quality of the visuals. They are a touch pixelated, but nowhere near it being bothersome. Audio is quite good too. Great for long trips in the car!
One question though. I saw that there was a Sonic X, video cart. Luckily, I was not aware of another horrendous, US market Sonic cartoon. Is this a Japanese show that has been ported to the US and is actually worth watching?
Trust me, the quality on the demo on the Game Cube Kiosk is not what you actually see.
Also, the SpongeBob Vol. 1 and 2 have episodes mixed up. I had planned on buying them all, most to keep, at full price. But after that mess up, Majesco can suck it. I'll buy them when Kmart wants to dump them for $5 each or whatever.
In turn, I focused my money on the GBA Classic NES series instead. I can get more use from my $20 there.
Don't get me wrong. I'm sure all of those things are great, considering only half of those things you said apply. Reception? The GBA isn't a TV that picks up channels, it's a portable gaming console. Why spend 19.99 on 4 episodes of a cartoon you can watch on your TV for less, if for free(for you younger kids). Plus I'm sure the video quality sucks, so really all I'm saying is, it really isn't worth it.Please tell me were you got a tv that fits in your pocket, doesnt need battery or a plug and you can get reception anywere. I think its an intersting concept for the machine. Video quality looks better then that "Video Now" crap they advertise and I would think if the player idea catches on they'll try more adult-oriented programs too, depending on Nintedo of course.

You don't seem to get it. It's a Convenience thing. For parents to give their children on long car trips. That's the whole thing with these things. You can't carry a TV with you in the car and have it get every channel, LET ALONE Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network and allow you to watch SpongeBob or Sonic X or whatever any time you want. That's the whole thing, why he's arguing with you about your love for watching shows on TV.Originally Posted by Sibs
Hope that made sense. Convenience vs. whatever TV is.
You can watch Sonic X on the FoxBox every morning. It is a Japanese import, so the animation and artwork is pretty nice. However, the dialogue and storylines are less than inspired. For some idiotic reason, the Sonic characters are on Earth, rather than Mobius, and are watched over by a child with rich parents. All the cuter characters have to disguise themselves as stuffed animals to avoid getting discovered by the kid's servants and caretakers, while Sonic and Knuckles just hang out on the roof of the house and brood.
It's better than the Sonic weekday series (you know, the one with the awful animation and Robotnik's enormous, ever present buttcrack) but not as entertaining as the Saturday morning show that aired ten years ago. Overall, I'd rate the series as average.

You will never, ever see adult-oriented 'toons in the "GBA Video" format. Nintendo is the kiddie demographic; Sony and Microsoft are where the grown-ups play. (Not including the contingent of demographic-violating core gamers.)Originally Posted by Kaine23

No, I understand the convenience of watching cartoons on long trips. What I guess I was trying to say was, I wouldn't spend $20 on them for myself, because 1.I don't watch cartoons anymore and 2.When I'm in a car, I'm usually the one driving, so when I said those things, they applied to me. Sorry for the miscommunication.Originally Posted by Jasoco
But yeah, if we had this stuff when we were younger, that would've been awesome, I would've liked it. Especially Sonic X, because I liked Sonic back when it first came out.
