RGBarcade was one of the entries in the recent GBAX competition. After spending an hour with it, I'm convinced that it should take home the top prize in this contest. RGBarcade is, as the title suggests, an arcade game emulator for the Game Boy Advance. Generally, emulation is best left to more powerful handhelds like the Tapwave Zodiac and the GP32, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by RGBarcade. It runs over a dozen classic coin-ops at full speed, without any frame skipping. Best of all, it offers the first complete version of Donkey Kong on the Game Boy Advance. That's right, folks... there's none of that inaccurate scoring and missing round BS that you had to put up with in the e-card and classic NES games. This is the real deal, with perfect gameplay and graphics.
I'm not going to say that RGBarcade is perfect. Due to legal issues, the author had to distribute it without any games... you'll have to supply your own ROMs and merge them with RGBarcade, using a helpful program included with the emulator. Also, most of the games don't yet have sound, and the tiny Game Boy Advance screen forces you to either shrink down the playfields or scroll them up and down as you play. Still, I'm extremely impressed with what the author has done with RGBarcade, and I can't wait to see what he'll do with it after the GBAX competition is over.
