Default Is it worth getting a 3DO? What are the must have games?

I was thinking of adding a new system to my lineup and the 3DO is selling really cheap on Ebay. I like the idea of owning a system that was once $700 for less than $50. But the question is it even worth that? If its worth getting what are the must have games for it?

Yup...lots of great games. A few of my favorites:

    Star Control 2
    Crash N Burn
    Icebreaker
    Road Rash (best version EVER!)
    Return Fire
    Battlesport
    Gex

It's worth getting one if you can get it cheap!

I heard Street Fighter II Turbo and Samurai Showdown II are pretty good ports. But for the love of god, please stay away from the Vivid adult titles. x_x

I'd spend the money on good games for another system first. The 3DO library is pretty weak, unless you're just looking for weirdness. Then it's great.

    Default 3D0 is good stuff

The system is truly stange.......but an important part of video game history and was part of the first gen of 32 bit machines. I recommend it, and the best games have already been mentioned. Stay far far far away from Shadow War of Succesion...................unless you like to play crap like me!

Like any other dead system it has it's fair share of good and bad games, my personal favs are

    Road Rash
    Killingtime
    Wing Commander III
    Phoenix 3
    Gex
    Samuri Showdown
Corpse Killer (just cause of the bad acting!!)
and of coarse their's the ever popular cheesy adult titles!

Definately worth picking one up. Since everyone else seemed to have covered most of the must-buy games, here is some information on console variations to help you decide which one is best for you. There are three different versions of the console (that I'm aware of). Here they are...

    The FZ-1 (my favorite)

    The FZ-10

    The Goldstar GDO-101M

Here is a link to some console information.

PS. Pick yourself up a set of DOCS brand wireless controllers (If you can find them at a reasonable price).

The 3DO is well worth picking up espicially for the price its going for now. There are a lot of games that were very inovative for the system as well as some real junk.(I totally agree about Shadow War os Succesion as this was an abismal game). One of the things i like was the way the controllers daisey chained off each other. I paid $350 for mine when it was selling for $600 from a distributer i knew and the thought of some of my friends yanking my system on the floor(my friends were active type of players who would slam back real quick in the sofa) this way they were plugged into my controller protecing my 3DO.Some of the games that were made for the system were made by people making games for the new systems today. One of the biggest names I can think of is Naughty Dog. They made the game Way Of The Warrior which was a Mortal Kombat rip off some say buy was actually a lot of fun and had a ton of hidden stuff on the disc(some of which will porbaly never be found) and it had probaly the best sound trak for a game ( White Zombie).Anyway here is a small list of games to get if you are interested.

Alone in the dark - At the time was a great game as it was probaly the first Resident Evil style game ( very slow and awkward)

Crash and Burn - Which was a pack in racing combat game(bad acting but fun to play)

Escape From Monster Manor - FPS as Doom was all the rage at the time.

Fifa Soccer - Was a great game but i wasnt into soccer.

Madden Football - This game was the best version of Madden until PS2 as far as i was concerned

Need For Speed - This game was awesome as it was more of a driving simulator than a racing game. ( exterior veiw did not handle as good as inside the car view.

Road Rash - Agree with earlier post was best version and darn near close to best game for the system.

AD&D - Both were very good games ( Slayer and Death Keep)

Rteurn Fire $ RF Maps Of Death - Were a capture the flag style game but a lot of fun with a classical soundtrak.

Samurai Showdown - Was probably the best version for consoles besides the NEO GEO version( 3DO's version did nat have scaling)

Twisted: The Game Show - Was not a great game but was a decent party game as the charecters and commercials were pretty funny to watch.

Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels - This was a strategy game as you command a squad of marines with differant capablilities.

well anyway thats a few games if you have any doubts there are web sites with reviews and pictures to let you know which games to stay away from. The adult titles were bad as posted above. Most were just grainy video clips of porn movies or just God awefull games wrapped around the fact that they had nudity with almost no real gameplay at all.
But the system is well worth picking up as i still play mine frequently. Have fun .[/list]

It's a neat system and fun piece of forgotten video game history, but I wouldn't pay more than thirty dollars for it. I know I didn't!

Anyway, games like Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Crash 'n Burn do justify the purchase. I'm also told that Doctor Hawzer is a nifty precursor to the Resident Evil series, with fewer monsters but more traps.

Well, I sold a boxed set of them for $50 on ebay a few years ago (found them for $2.00 discount at Wal-Mart and I already had a set). I've seen them recently for around $50 boxed and above $20 opened.

I'm an avid 3DO collector. I've got all the US stuff plus nearly 100 import-only titles. Be sure to check out the searchable game lists (see link on both the DP site and at the top of this forum) and read through some 3DO entries.

I've been kicking around the idea of picking one of these up myself. For those who have played it, how's Quarantine? That's one of my favorite PC games of all time, and I'm wondering how faithful the 3DO port is. Does the game include the original soundtrack? I myself still have the 5 floppy disk version of Quarantine, but my friend had the CD version that featured a full music soundtrack. I remember most of it sucked, but there were one or two somewhat decent songs. It'd be more interesting from a nostalgia purpose if the game had the soundtrack. I'd be willing to pick up a 3DO just for this game if the port is faithful.....

And then there's the 3DO Blaster. Looks like that's an ISA card, though, so you'd need an oldish computer to do anything with it.

Everyone always brings up Plumbers Don't Wear Ties as an adult title. Were there any others?

Re: Quarantine. I don't think the game is horrible but it's not great either. You'll usually find it on a top ten disappointment list for 3DO owners, if not a top ten worst list! Still, like I said...

Re: Adult titles: The US has a bunch of titles from Vivid (yes, the same as the porn produciton company), though only one of these, "Mind Teazzer", is actually a game - and not a bad one. The only other US-released adult GAME is Neurodancer, a sort-of first-person-maze-hunt where you ultimately pay to have a stripper do her thing. There are a number of import adult titles, like Penthouse Interactive, The Virtual Cameraman series, Nice Body Interactive, and more. They're particularly difficult to find but "findable".
