Default What would you do with an NWC cart?

All this talk about NWC carts got me thinking. Say you found one at a thrift (use your imagination folks...) or maybe you got it with an insanely low BIN on eBay. What would you do?

I would definitely NOT keep it. I would eBay it as a last resort, but first I would try to make some sort of trade/cash combo, preferably with someone from this board.

    I'd probably keep it.

I'd never eBay it. Not my scene. If I decided to get rid of it I'd try trading with somebody here for sure.

It's a good question though. I don't really consider it something I'm after, so if I did come across it I might just parlay it into something else I do want. The more I think about it the more I think I should have answered differently.

well, first i think i'd play it, just to say i did.

then i'd try to get a cash / trade deal out of it, if after awhile i dont get any good offers, it would go to ebay.

I would keep it. But if a day came when I needed some money that would be the first thing to go.

Where's the option for "destroy it live on web cam just to be decadent"?

Seriously, I'd try to get some good trade b/c I'm not a NES collector. Or I might be tempted to do some eBay gouging because I could probably pay off my credit card with what those are going for.

I think everybody should go with the "give it to Dobie" option. But since that isn't one, I'd say "keep it." Its only going to get more valuable over the years. Can anybody say 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle? The NWC cart is THE carts among carts to have for any NES collector, and there are a BUNCH of us out there.

i think it really depends when i got it...if i got it now, id most likely sell/trade it for a more complete version of my NES collection...but if it was a year or 2 down the line, where i almost had all the nes stuff anyways, id be tempted to keep it to fill out my collection

I would play it for a bit, then sell it on ebay. When it comes down to ONE NES CART, or a 47" Widescreen HDTV it's NOT much of a choice as far as I'm concrened. I will NEVER EVER own a cart worth more than $150-$200 (I own plenty of those, and I feel guilty enough!).

I would create a special holder for it from the same material they make bullet proof glass and put it on display with the rest of my NES games in my future gaming room. I will make sure it will be locked with one of those special keys, and impossible to steal.

The glass will be tinted a bit so the sun will not fade it.

Think of a very expensive baseball card container except made into an NES container/holder.

    ehehehe

@Genesisnes: A Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt cartridge is a piece of history!

I'd probably trade it for some other ultra-rare item (for a system I DO collect).

    Of course I'd keep it!!!
Being an NES collector primarily, there would be nothing that could make me sell that on eBay.

I would keep it too. I collect rare games. And I have too a NES to play it.

You will maybe never get it again, so better keep it as long as you can.

26 gold ones were made...the number for grey cart ones seems to be debated but around what was it, 120? 150?

I'd keep it for awhile but probably end up selling it and using the money to buy other rare NES/Famicom stuff. I know I'm in the minority, but I just don't find the idea of having one NWC, be it gold or grey, better than having a bunch of prototypes and less expensive rare Famicom items.

The last I heard there is supposed to be 116 NWC carts total. 90 Grey and 26 Gold.

I'm shocked! Not that so many people would keep it. THAT I understand. Rather, I can't believe that 13 out of the 17 people who voted otherwise would put it on eBay. I wouldn't keep it for the simple reason that I don't collect NES. However, if I had a find like that I would definitely try to get something rare for a system I do collect and make up the difference with cash. I guess I just think about money differently, because if I sold it I would just put the money towards my mortgage instead of just using it to buy more games.

I'd sell it on ebay. The amount of cash it would generate could easily cover my collecting expenses for the next few years.

I'd definitely eBay it after playing around with it for a bit...one NWC cart could pay off a whole lot of debt. Figure in the interest I'd otherwise be paying on that debt and the freed up resources every month from fewer/lower payments and that's definitely the way to go.

    Hi there.

I'm new here, and haven't quite got the lingo down.

Would anyone be so kind to tell me what a NWC is?

Someone else could tell you more, but NWC stands for "Nintendo World Championship". There were only a couple hundred carts made and they were used in a competition. A few times a year one will pop up on eBay and is guaranteed to sell for thousands of dollars.

If they are worth thousands of dollars, why would you hesitate to sell it? I'd cash it in immediately and pay off my house!!!
