    Default A/V Famicom Side Socket...Useful??

I was wondering if anything uses the side expansion port on the new style famicom....looks intriguing

You can hook the Famicom Disk System to it possibly.

I thought that was for the Zapper and any other peripherals the Famicom used. The original Famicom had the controllers hard-wired into it so an extra, free port was made for future devices to be plugged in.

I also think that's the case, as I was looking at my Sharp Twin earlier today and noticed *two* ports on the side (for different purposes or perhaps different styles of peripheral). Of course, the Disk System plugs onto the bottom of a Famicom, not the side, so that's not what they're there for.

yeah you are right....now that I think about it. actually the famicom disk system does not plug into the bottom.....you usually sit the famicom on top of it but the actual connection is the RAM adaptor that goes into the famicom cartridge slot.

Are you saying the FDS connects via the cartridge slot? From what I've seen, that's wrong. The expansion port on the bottom of the Famicom is where you plug in the FDS as far as I can tell (at least with A/V Famicom units; I suspect older units had the expansion port but I'm not 100% sure).

If I were to buy one of those newer styled AV Famicoms (which I am heavily considering doing), is there a Japanese Four Score type peripheral that I can pick up with it too? I've been dying to play four player Kunio Ice Hockey (whatever the hell its called, it was supposed to be Crash and the Boys Ice Challenge) ever since I got the game. I found out the hard way that an American four score will not work with Famicom games and was sorely disappointed. Will the A/V Famicom hook up to American TV's and American electrical outlets? It'd be nice to have a reliable NES with A/V hookups and be able to play 4 player Famicom games.....
