Making old school systems portable?

I've seen lots of these portable screens out there for PS2's, PS1's, XBOX's and GameCubes.

Some of these screens will even power the system that you have them hooked up to.

Now, I'm sure that all of you have seen the same thing, and you are probably thinking..."Big Deal, what's the point".

Well, I saw one portable screen that advertised that it worked with the PSone and the PS2 and the Dreamcast.

I was thinking, doesn't the Sega Saturn use the same type of power source for it's system as the PSone and Dreamcast?

So, couldn't we use this screen with a Sega Saturn to make it portable?

I'm wondering if we could do the same thing with any of the other old school systems. Is there anyway to use some kind of adapter to use one of these screens with a SNES, or a Genny, or a Jag or a Turbo?

I would love to play my classic systems portably. But I'm not interested in a super tiny screen, like the Nomad or TurboExpress provides.

I dunno, but I wish Nintendo would release that portable SNES they were gonna make. It seems like they could still make a fortune selling them, even now. I had the money for one burning a hole in my pocket as soon as it was announced, and the fools didn't even release it in Japan, as far as I know.

Awesome links there Jorpho! I would love to play some SNES games on the go, and im sure it's possible somehow, but for now i have a GBA.

I know that my GCN screen will work in my SNES perfectly (I've tried it).

One of those SNESps is being advertised on our buying and selling forums as we speak. It would be damn cool to have one or something similar to it, but I dont have an extra grand floating around. As for the GBA, I love mine, but I refuse to pay 30 bucks for games that I already own on the SNES. It is very unforutnate that a VAST majority of the decent GBA games that would appeal top adults happen to be ports of SNES games. Because of this, my GBA collection is miscroscopic.

ya ben with his portible ataris really is the definitive. Thats the first I've seen kevin horton's page but I swear I've heard the name before.

Its not terribly difficult to do (if your good with a soddering iron). I guess what is the hard part if fabbing a good case (we're not all that lucky to have full cnc facilities). Ben gives alot of insight on how to do it yourself, like part numbers for the lcd and good battery choices.

Plus have you ever opened up a NES2, that thing is just begging to be hand-held.


I actually thought of posting about the VCSp the other day. Has anyone bought one of his systems? I know he hasnt made a large number of them but I thought if anyone would buy something like this, it would be one of us.
