Yes, there is supposed to be a designated trading area this year. Trading wasn't even mentioned for last year's show, and plenty of people still brought stuff, so I'm hoping this year will be even better.Originally Posted by Jeff-20

Sure...take 94 north towards Madison, you can either follow 94 all the way, or you can take the 894 bypass if traffic is heavy and you want to avoid going through downtown Milwaukee's notorious Marquette interchange.Originally Posted by Queen of the Felines
Either way will eventually get you on 94 headed due west. About 10 miles east of downtown, or shortly after you rejoin 94 westbound from the 894 bypass, you will start to climb a huge hill (seems like it's at least a mile long) by the time you get to the top, you will want to be in the far right lane. The first exit after the hill will be Mooreland Rd. North, take it. There is a yield sign at the end of the off ramp, but usually you can merge with traffic without slowing down.
Once you're headed north on Mooreland, you'll immediately go through a stoplight that is always green going northbound and you'll quickly want to get into the far left lane. This lane quickly empties into a 2-lane left turn lane for Brookfield Mall, you'll want to again get into the far left lane (FYI: at this point you will have already passed the Hotel on your left).
Turn left into the mall parking lot, and take the first left you can down an access road through the middle of the parking lots. A TRU will be to your right, and the hotel will be to your left. Park, disembark, and play NARC (or the game of your choice).
See you there!

This is going to be great! If anyone got today's copy of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, take a look on the inside front page at the interview they did with Billy Mitchell about the show!
And then meet Billy Mitchell when you arrive, of course![]()

I completely forgot about the MGC convention; this morning I remembered the event and stopped by in the afternoon.
It was interesting, it was my first time at a gaming convention; I was surprised that DP had a table in the vendor area, and I can now put a face to the "Darth Vader" handle.
Overall, I hoped for a bit more. A couple of rooms, pretty crowded, interesting game systems which I saw so far only on pics, I played a bit, and the offerings of games didn't appeal to me. I guess I'm just too finnecky when it comes to the condition of game boxes.
The arcade machine and Pinball area (I'm not into Pinball machines at all) were actually more impressive than the rooms with consoles.
The most distinctive memory will be the energy drink "Bawlz" (sp?) which advertisement seemed to follow me around, the first issue of Manci Games which came with the ticket, and our inability to define 'classic gaming' as demonstrated in the official brochure of the exhibition.
Honestly, I was a bit disappointed. Granted, maybe I've been spoiled by CGE, but my thoughts were the same as lendelin's. The arcade area was about the size of my living room and just seemed a bit too small and crowded for my tastes (which is ok, your tastes may vary). I was pretty much done with everything in about an hour and thought "I drove three hours for this?"
But again, CGE probably spoiled me and I probably missed something obvious.
The girl at the "Bawlz" booth was pretty cute though.Stuff just about gave me a heart attack though.
Best moment: Walking past the arcade, a kid was playing the second level of Donkey Kong. His dad says "Well maybe the umbrella floats you back down to the ground or something."I actually had to do a double-take.

"I am way too lesbian for that shit."
I agree completely. The girl at the 'bawlz" table was cute, and I was done in an hour as well. (with the exhibition, not with the girl) However, my drive was only about 15 minutes. You drove THREE hours?? Poor girl!Originally Posted by Queen of the Felines

Hated it. Well, not hate...I'm being dramatic... I was just a little "blah" about it.
Drove an hour and a half and made the mistake of dragging a reluctant girlfriend with me. We broke out early to check out Milwaukee. It's a fuggin ghost town. Saturday night just after working hours and everyone's at home watching TGIF or something. The girlfriend dumped me immediately after I safely returned her home to Chicago calling me a "nerd". You people ruined my life! (just kidding)
But it was just a little disappointing in size. I spent most of my 2 hours there playing Virtual Boy and studying Billy Mitchell's hair.
Huh? We DIDN'T have a table there! Was "Darth Vader" representin'? Very cool. He's been a book distributor for us, I presume that's what he was peddlingOriginally Posted by lendelin
Sorry to hear you were disappointed. These events do take quite a bit of planning, preparation, and SWEAT, as I've learned over the years. I give anyone crazy enough to host one of these events a lot of credit. There's no money in it - it's all about the satisfaction you get from your attendees.Overall, I hoped for a bit more. Yep, he was there wearing the DP shirt and had a couple of the DP collector's guide stacked in addition to lots of games for sale. Recognizing the DP logo, I asked him about DP and he said he's doing it for Joe.Originally Posted by digitalpress

I think the dissapointing impression has lots to do with the arrangements of the rooms, size of the rooms, and the arrangement of the individual items. Presentation is a lot for these types of events. I had an ok time, but wasn't really impressed. There were some interesting rare items which were very nice to look at, though.
I had a great time, i scored a lot of deals, dropped a ton at dave and dan's table...ooh, and was it just me, or was the girl at the packrat table really cute? Lol
RIP Kamino 1984-2010
Well, i had an OK time. I was REALLY looking forward to this. One of my main gripes was the fact that there was NO trading room available. I was under the impression there was gonna be, so i packed up my van with ALL my trade fodder including my cocktail table. At least i made a few small trades with Dave toward the end of the day, but in the end most of it came back home. I did ask about where i could do some trading and I was told "Maybe in the hallway or something..."...WTF
.
Maybe when GoatDan was starting to organize this, he didn't anticipate such interest. And once the hotel space was booked and then SO many people were interested in participating, they wound up spreading the show all over the hotel, i.e. a room available here, room available there (there were plenty of times i thought i was going to another area and found myself facing an exit).
I had set aside Sat and Sun for this, but after i tried to go over everything with a fine tooth comb for 6 hours on Sat...that was enough for me. I hope next year its all in the same room.
On a side note i did get a chance to put some faces to some DPers which was cool. But i did think QoF gave me a "Who the hell is this guy with the DP shirt???" look. But i recognized her from her pictures here, she just probably didn't recognize ( or even know) me

It was ok, I mean i didn't expect the world. I didn't like to much how everything was room to room and whatnot. I didn't see i guess half the stuff i didn't know where much of it was. No one really trading anywhere.
Saw Goodwill hunter in the corner, met YoshiM, Darth and uh whats(shit) his name. and you bet he was pimping the good book.
I didn't see or get manci anything so i don't know whats that about.
Picked up ton of filler stuff, seem like some tension with AA being in the next room, and me walking around with a DP shirt on. Got 5 homebrews and some other filler stuff, no one had any grail items or really anything to drool over.

My life and perception has changed, but my principals are the same.

Quick question,
Howmany of you went to the marathon, midi maze and Jagfest area on the first day?
I was there, but nobody stopped to talk to me
I did meet up goodwill hunter though.
I'll have lots to add, but I am way too tired right now. Had a great time but really ran my ass off all day selling games. Dave and I will post more tomorrow.

Pinball - Fish Tales
Arcade game - Tapper and Track & Field
I went, and I thought that the show was kind of eh. I think that's probably because I went on Sunday at 2:30... I guess I must have missed the more interesting, timed attractions so to speak.
A super highlight for me was finally getting US Dynastic Hero! Thank you!!!... you know who you are. But honestly, if it hadn't been for that, I might have felt that it wasn't worth the $8. Here's waiting for next year's event.
Thanks for the comments. I do not expect the event will have the same direction in the future thanks to them.

The area the hotel is in is not Milwaukee, technically it's just outside of Milwaukee county (hence Brookfield). You'd have to have headed further east to start hitting the west side of Milwaukee (which is a very spread out "city" compared to Chicago). Most of the big nightlife is downtown in the Waterstreet area on a Saturday night. Sorry about the girlfriend, but if that's how she reacted then she wasn't the right one.Originally Posted by Jeff-20

Considering the coin-ops were spread out over four seperate rooms, you must have a huge living room.Originally Posted by Queen of the Felines

I'm sorry to hear that, though don't forget that CGE is well established in format and has always targeted a specific genre of video game past - the origins through pre-crassh era, which it of course does well. Rather thanOriginally Posted by Queen of the Felines
duplicate those efforts, we're trying to build a show that includes everything from past to present, across the electronic entertainment spectrum (all platforms). The idea that everything is a "classic" to someone.
A good example was several different types of people I noticed in the museum area - some would go to the pre-crash consoles and spend most of their time glossing over everything else (usually people in their mid 20's on up). Some would gloss over those and go right to the NES and later material (usually teens through early 20's). The even younger ones of course would head to the later Xbox, GC, etc. and maybe some time on those "old" Dreamcast and N64 consoles. The guys 40's on up would spend most of their time gawking and reminscing in the computer area.
As Dan already stated, we appreciate everyone's comments and they will certainly help dictate the future direction of the show.
As a first time vendor at one of these things, I have a new appreciation for all of the preparation and work that goes into getting everything ready. Spent most of last night unpacking, (passing out on the couch for a few hours) and getting the van back in shape to take the kids to school.
Next time I'll get an assistant, so I can see some of the rest of the show. As a vendor, I thought the show was great, tons of people on Saturday buying lots mostly classic extras, and a decent showing for a Sunday as well. The organizers said the attendance from last year increased over fivefold, so they did a good job growing the show.
The biggest disappointment for me was no designated trading area, as had been mentioned. (Although Darth Vader and Dave's huge table was a nice impromptu substitute for me and others). And hopefully next year's show will be back in a big, open area...more like last year (Serb Hall anyone?).
I also displayed my 2600 demo console, and think I got an inkling of the reaction the CGE museum got at E3. Lots of people and families stopping to play and either recalling seeing the unit in a Sears, or selecting a game and blurting out, "Oh wow! I used to play this all the time!" The most played 2-player game was a tie between Warlords and, oddly enough, Basketball...but the going away favorite for 1-player was Adventure.
Saw lots of DP people and T-shirtsand I have a few pictures I'll post when I get the chance. I know there were a few growing pains, but overall I thought the organizers did a pretty good job. Already looking forward to next year.

Kamino: I know how you feel. I came on Sunday and while I got to talk to Chunky, Goodwill Hunter, Darth Vader and...Dave (whose screen name totally escapes me at themoment) I missed you and Queen of Felines.
I did check out Jagfest, but the room was kinda empty. The Atari computers for Midi Maze was packed up, but I had played it last year so it wasn't a huge deal missing it (even though it was pretty cool-network smiley face FPS via MIDI ports). There were a lot of differet Lynxes and lots of games to try.
I'll be putting together a web site with some of the pics I took along with my thoughts and I'll post 'em here and on the main VG board.
Ha, i flew under the radar on this one.
I am dave...aka dave2236 here, hopefully that clears up who I am. I was the guy with the SNES side of the stack of boxed systems.
I had a fun time, fantastic time, mostly because of all the awesome people I met at the show. I didn't leave the booth much, but everyone came up to Danny and I and it was great meeting everyone.
@Collector, I bought something for you that you wanted at the end of the show on Sunday, I'll ship it too you this week.
Hooked Kamino up with a nice Intv. system and 10 games for $20, hows that working for you? did you play anything yet?
The Balz girl was named Erica, wonderfully great girl, talked to her all weekend....I know you guys are jealous. And the beautiful Packrat Girl is Audry(hope I spelled it right) Jared's (hope thats spelled right also) sister is an awesome guy. Highely reccomended by me and I'm sure Darth is going to say the same thing, without a doubt, packratgames is a great business to deal with, I picked up some really nice homebrews and will definately be buying more from them when I go to CGE.
We couldn't have a better spot, sandwiched between two beautiful women all weekend![]()
Kristine, Dan, Yoshi, Bill, Kamino, Chunky, Rich, everybody I talked too, it was great meeting each and ever one of you. I hope you can make it to CGE, I'd love to talk to everyone again.
I'm also undefeated in our unofficial N64 Smash Brothers tourney we had going on. Jared, thats for letting us borrow your TV. Remember you and Audry have to play me and Dan at CGE, so start practicing. If you don't have a N64, let me know. I'll send you one.
***Also the public world record for Ms. Pac Man was set at the show(I heard, don't know the details, but Dan can fill you about that)
dave2236: ahh, I remember there were numbers in your board name but I couldn't hear you too well at that moment. Did you ever con..er..get rid o...uh..able to bestow the pleasure of owning that complete-with-poster Shaq Fu cart at all?
"It comes with the poster. You can hang it in your room and wake up to Shaq every day." :ave strikes a Shaq-Fu karate stance::
I got my can thoroughly waxed in the Super Smash Brothers tourney. I was the first lamb lead to the slaughter. Baa-aah.
I DID !! Shaq Fu is gone...well one of them. I sold it for $1 complete with the awesome poster.
I think someone from here bought it? I'm not sure
