Default Anyone got an Nvidia Shield?

I've been looking for a portable Android emulation handheld, and this seems to be my best option since I really don't want to have to deal with designed for China tablets. Anyone get one and try it out? I would be able to do the streaming, but that honestly doesn't interest me much as much as the power of the system to run emulators.

It is bar none the best Emulation handheld out there.

I have them all and nothing can touch the Shield.

Get it and you won't be disappointed.

I'd be interested in that as well. With a Tegra 4, it should be able to run quite a lot.

For $300, you can do a lot better. Even if you hate the Chinese handhelds, at that rate you're probably better off just getting a Nexus 7 and bluetooth controller.

While the Shield looks good, it doesn't seem worth the asking price, especially if you plan on using it primarily for emulation (which honestly does not take that much power). That's more than a 3DS, Vita, or even a Wii U.

See, I want an all-in-one. I've gotten those Bluetooth controllers before and it kind of takes away the point for me. I may have to look into those Chinese handhelds, but nothing is as powerful as the Shield.

    And thats where you're wrong.

It is totally worth it, and blows all the Chinese handhelds out of the water.

And a phone with a bluetooth controller is not a Shield. Once you have a Shield in your hand you don't pick up any other system for portable emulation. It's that good.

And as a bonus they are trying and getting close to getting Gamecube emulation running decently on the Shield. Will they succeed ?????

There's always something new coming out. Something just around the corner.

But when exactly will it come out. Will it be delayed. Will it be a huge jump in technology or just minimal upgrades.

You can wait and maybe hav something in a year or two or you can have something great now. Your choice.

Heard the second one has a Tegra 5.

There is a really good Chinese tablet that I've heard about by JXD.

I have all the Jxd's, the Yinlips, the iBen, the Archos, etc, etc. None of them can hold a candle to the Shield.

None of them are nearly as comfortable to play. They have poor battery life compared to the Shield. The screens are terrible compared to the SHield (except the iBen). They run games and emulators terribly compared to the Shield. Etc, etc, etc.

Do NOT buy a Jxd or other Chinese device unless you want to be disappointed.

But that's the last I'll say about it. It's your decision.

Welp, I guess I'll go to a Micro Center near me so I can test it in person...

The price just dropped to $199, at least through April. It's looking very tempting now for emulation.

I picked one up on Monday, and it's a very nice device. The only problem I have is figuring out what the best emulators are for it. Right now I'm running 2600.emu, John NES, Snes9x EX+, MD.emu, My Boy! (GBA), and of course MAME4droid. I haven't even bought any Shield specific games yet, I've just been messing around with emulation.

One reason I wanted it was for GBA emulation. Maybe a bit expensive to play Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga finally, but that's one of many things that it does really, really well.

Sorry for the necropost, but I picked one of these up a couple of weeks ago for £150 (about $200) second hand.

Best. Purchase. Ever. Not only can it stream a hefty chunk of my Steam library, not only does it play all android games, but the emulation selection on it is astounding. If you download retroarch- which I strongly recommend you do- you get virtually every pre-Saturn console rolled into one. The one complaint I would have is that getting PS1 emulation running is a bit fiddly, but once I'd downloaded epsxe and configured it correctly, even that was purring like a kitten. Anyone who owns a Geforce graphics card and loved retro and modern gaming in equal measure needs to do themselves a favour and pick up either the portable or the tablet and a controller.
