Default Dogbone NES controller slow to respond

Much as the thread title suggests, I dug out my old NES dogbone controller after god knows how long. What I've noticed is that the left direction on the control pad is not as responsive as my other controllers are. If you push it, it takes a few moments for the character to react on the screen, Doesn't do this with any other direction, or the A or B buttons, but it did so on both games I tried.

I'm thinking I may just need to clean the contact point or something, but if anyone else has ideas I figure it's worth seeing what advice there is before I bother opening it up.

Only thing I could suggest is to clean the contact on the PCB as well as the rubber nub that presses down on it. Barring that there isn't much I'm aware you can do beyond replacing the rubber membrane.
I fix things. You name it, I'll work on it. Want something modded? Recapped?

^--- what he said. A quick swab with iso alchol usually fixes them up, unless the silicone has torn. If it's torn, I believe the contact pads from the original controller will fit.
