Default Your favorite racing games ever?

So I've discovered I enjoy racers much more than I thought I did.

So what are your alltime favorite racers?

Only ones I can think of at the moment are...
    Mario Kart: Double Dash (Gamecube)
    and
    OutRun (Arcade)

Hoping to get in to the Choro Q series though.

The entire Wipeout series, as well as F-Zero. Also, the Biker Mice from Mars game for SNES.

Man, I was trying to come up with a few more classic titles, but your list covers almost all of the top notch titles I can think of.

The only others that come to mind are NES micro machines, SNES Super Off Road, and maybe Star Wars Pod Racer (best on N64 with 2 controllers IMO).

So many. Most of which have already been listed above. Obviously, Outrun is on the list. I actually had a copy of Outrun 3D for the Master System about 20 years ago and sold it for about £3, annoyingly. You have your Mario Karts, F-Zeros, Wipeouts, all of which are amazing. Best combat racer imo though has to be Rollcage. Really frustrating that the Wipeout franchise has endured but we only got 2 Rollcage games and none since 2000. Long overdue a comeback.

I'm really more of a 'simulation' driving game fan. Forza, PGR, and the daddy of them all, Gran Turismo. GT1 would probably top the list of all my all-time favourite driving games. If only because it actually dared to include sodding qualifying laps, something every other game that isn't an F1 sim seems to ignore.

I can't believe that I'm going to be the first to say Rush 2049. The Dreamcast version is great, but nothing beats the arcade.

For consoles, I also LOVED F-Zero X and the original Super Mario Kart.

For arcades, Sega Super GT is phenomenal, although you only could realize it was so great by either spending a fortune on it or working at an arcade that owned one (I did the latter). Outrun in every instance is also amazing. Hydro Thunder is also particularly awesome.

But, the most awesomest racing game ever might just be H2Overdrive. It's a relatively new arcade machine that is the spiritual successor to Hydro Thunder, and it is absolutely mindblowingly awesome. A reason alone to go back to the arcade. No, seriously. Go find one now!

I'm actually a fan of XG3, although I thought the first two were only ok. I own, but have not yet played XGRA.

    Metropolis Street Racer (DC)
    Test Drive Le Mans (DC)
    Re-Volt (DC)

Those are the only racers I ever cared to put a lick of time into (as in unlocked everything and beat all the time trials). So I'd have to say that racing games began and ended for me on the DC.

Carmageddon (PC) comes to mind as a decent, classic racing game that hasn't been mentioned yet.

Personally, though, I could never quite get into most 2D/Mode 7 racers, like F-Zero, or Outrun. I just didn't like the somewhat stiff handling. However, there are a few modern racing games I very much enjoy, for example the first two FlatOut games, Burnout Paradise, Trackmania Nations, Nail'd and Blur.

I'm honestly baffled that people like this game. It looks nice, but the handling is just completely busted and random.

I can understand if the controls are too oversensitive to some, but i like challenging controls which wont forgive sloppy driving and keep you busy even with years of practice, not unlike the Phantom class in the Wipeout series where you have to be extremely concentrated if you dont want to end up in the walls. Playing with a pad on standard sensitivity btw and i dont think the controls are random at all. Though the fun really starts with the Unicorn

Rock"N Roll Racing (SNES) <------ Such a fun game and great sound track
Micro Machines (NES and GENESIS & Playstation series) <----Lots of great Genesis PAL games that play on NTSC systems
Prower Drive Rally (Jaguar) <------- under-rated gem
    Indy 500 (2600) <---- The head2head tag game is a blast

Definite recommendation for later gen racers is a wheel/pedal set. Cruisin' USA and World on N64 are simply awesome with my N64 racing wheel controller.

Ridge Racer Revolution on PSX with racing wheel and pedals is great as well.

Initial D and Wangan Midnight are my two all time favorites, spent so much money on them at the local arcade...
