Default great games, but too difficult

ok, so theres a bunch of games i think are overrated because they are too difficult. Basically, the game starts out fun and is great, for awhile, but to beat the game is a real PITA and I see this as a flaw. Examples for me:

    ocarina of time
    road rash 1 genesis
    avp jaguar
    zelda 1 nes
    cybermorph
    daytona usa
    virtua racing
all the mortal kombats (cheap ai)
street fighter ai to lesser extent than mk
    resident evil 1
    zool 2
    rayman

I didn't find Ocarina of Time all that difficult.
Resident Evil 1 isn't too bad, either, especially if you play as Jill.

    The games that frustrated me the most because of their ball-breaking difficulty;

    Hagane
    Actraiser 2
    Battle Squadron
    Mystic Defender
Shadow of the Beast 2 (Amiga version, Sega CD and Genesis versions are easier)
    X-Men: Children of the Atom
    Godhand

I don't find either of the Zelda games you mentioned to be that difficult, especially compared to some other games in the series.

    Gaiares for the SEGA Genesis

Sidescrolling space shooter with great music and levels, but the bosses all one hit kill you as well as ALL of the enemies. It's a cake walk if you have a decent powerup but when you die you lose them all and restarting the levels with nothing makes it impossible to continue in most levels.

There's a code to gives you any powerup but then the game becomes way too easy.

Unless otherwise noted, I'm talking about the arcade version of these games.

    After Burner
    Arkanoid series
    Aero Blasters (all versions)
    Aero Fighters series
Android Assault: The Revenge of Bari-Arm (SEGA CD)
    Apache 3
    Choplifter
    Cyber-Lip
    Dragon Breed
    Dragon Spirit
    Ecco the Dolphin
    Ecco: The Tides of Time
    Ghosts 'N Goblins
    Haunted Castle
    KLAX
    Magician Lord
    Magic Sword
    MERCS
    Micheal Jackson's Moonwalker
    Ninja Warriora, The
    Quartet
    Raiden series
    Robocop
    R-Type
    R-Type II
Scramble Spirits (or maybe it just wasn't in the arcade long enough for me to improve)
    Snap Jack
    Space Harrier
    Space Panic
    Strike Force
    Top Gunner
    Total Carnage
    Tiger Heli
    Thundercade
    Twin Cobra
    Twin Eagle: Revenge Joe's Brother
    Victory Road
    Willow

Practically every bullet-hell shooter. I LOVE the shooter genre, but I really hate that the difficulty and complexity of modern bullet hell games essentially lock out players who aren't savants.

You should use the T-Braster (if you don't already). If you fire your TOZ off 6 times without snaring anything, the seventh shot will land you the T-Braster if you connect with anything. You can only do it before you use your TOZ to acquire any other weapon, so if you're in the middle of a stage and you've already snared something (or fired it more than 6 times), it won't work until the next stage. You also can't reacquire it in the same stage if/when you swap it out for another weapon (unless you die). You can also continue to upgrade your stock shot and missiles after you've acquired the T-Braster.

Unlike the weapon select code, acquiring the T-Blaster isn't exactly a cheat, since there's an active, in-game process to acquire it, which isn't always easy. Plus, the T-Braster isn't good in every area (it's a hindrance in some), so you have to swap it out in several areas of the game for another weapon. It's simple another weapon you strategically acquire, but it makes the game a LOT more balanced. They honestly should have explained how to get it in the manual.

Mainly because I can fly through it in 10 minutes, no problem. I have a friend that loved the game as well, but it took him YEARS to complete it, which I just chocked up to him being a terrible player, but maybe it's more difficult than I thought?

I'm book marking this topic for reference now, haha. Maybe i'll give it another shot, i really do like the game but i'll be damned if it isn't really unfriendly to new players. Arrow flash and thunderforce seem much easier to get into.

But I wonder how many people beat zelda games all on their own without any cheats or tips or hints etc etc? Probably not many.

Mortal Kombat 2 - it's fun but mannnnn.... way too hard.

Later MK games don't count because they're just not fun

Any of the bullet hell shooting games, unless you play normal or usually easy mode.

I'm not that obsessive to learn all the patterns but I like shooters.

The only ones I will disagree with you on are the Zelda games. Those are a breeze for me. I can beat the first Zelda's first quest in 80 minutes. My cousin used to beat Ocarina of Time within 2 days and there was this one period of 2 weeks where he kept re-playing and beating the game 10 times in a row like he was trying to set a record for a time trial or something.

I'm a collector, but only to a certain extent.
Not as extreme as Rickstilwell though.[/quote]

Looking for: Majesco version of Sega Game Gear system w/ no sound/video problems. It's black and has a purple start button.

My myspace photo albums, including entire game collection except for some accessories

I only play Alien Soldier if I'm totally awake and aware. I can't just sit back and hang out with that one, but it's an awesome game otherwise.

Holy Diver...meh. I found this one to be incredibly frustrating and not very enjoyable. I cleared it only with save/load state cheating, I don't think I'd ever get past the third level legitimately. It's like the R-Type of platformers: all memorization and punishing difficulty.

Battletoads is a great example of rewarding-but-difficult. The game was brilliant for it's time, fantastic level design (no two levels are even similar), comical finishing moves, great, colorful graphics, and some neat graphical effects (check out the tower you climb in the final stage, I've never seen any other game like that on the NES). Yes there is lots of memorization but at least there is a ton of variety between stages and I think that is what made me keep going back to it.

    This.

Plus, Ocarina of Time is not that difficult. If anything, the move to 3D has made Zelda games easier.

WWF No Mercy for the N64
Great game, but the Story Mode is ridiculous...One match will be an utter breeze to complete, then the next match amps the difficulty up 10,000 notches. Then the cycle repeats itself.
