I have Been playing River Raid a lot lately and have been playing the Intellivision version a lot, but I have to say the Atari XE had the best control and the Coolest graphics, with a close followup to with the Intellivision version.

Yea, I agree. The XL/XE port is probably the best. But, there aren't many bad versions of this game out there.

OK, I'll probably be alone on this, but 5200. Why? Analog controll! Yeah, here's one game that seriously benefits from the 5200 controller. I like the fact that the throttle is analog so it's not just fast/slow but you have a bit of controll in there, and the fact that the stick is non-centering is a plus here, I think.

Interesting point on the 5200 version that stick would help out quite a bit. I'll have to pull the old 5200 out again and give it a go, seeing as I haven't played that version int QUITE some time.

I voted XL/XE. It is one of the best games ever IMHO. I also love the 5200 version, and I also enjoy the analog control there a bit. A few reasons I couldn't vote the 5200 as #1, even though it is the same exact game as the Xl/XE version:

    1. Analog control is dependent on how well your 5200 stick re-centers itself (due to the extra rubber). If it tends not to recenter at all, have fun because you'll be spending a lot more energy just trying to keep that stick centered.

Even so, it *is* analog when non-centered, so if you are slightly left of center, the ship slowly drifts left and it isn't hard to make a subtle correction. But for this game (and all shooters really) I prefer tight digital control.

    2. I have a hard time getting my Activision carts to boot up on my 5200's. The design of the cart is the culprit -- it seems to have to be dead-center in the slot, and River Raid is one of the hardest to get to work without some cart-bumping going on. It frustrates me to no end, sometimes I just don't play RR because of that reason. I need to dump the PCB into a Pac-Man Common case.

i voted of the 2600 version because the best version is almost allways the origional one and you are missing the River Raid for the C64
