    Default Collected editions

My latest hobby is collecting, well, collected editions of entire comic book series. I prefer getting hardcovers because they look so much nicer on the shelf.

I'm looking for recommendations on what to get next. Right now I have the Strangers in Paradise omnibus (good God is that thing huge), the Echo omnibus, Runaways Vol. 1 hardcover, Stumptown, Fables vol 1 and 2, and the Silent Hill omnibus. Not much, but hey, I've just started. (And finding Runaways 2 and 3 under $50 is being a real pain.)

Can anybody give any other recommendations? I'd prefer finished series because I don't want to wait a year for the next book to come out. Limited/deluxe/collector's versions/sets are a plus.

Something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bone-Omnibus...item45fcfe2b5c (but definitely NOT at that price!)

Not a comic BOOK but a comic STRIP - I got this for Christmas last year and loved it to pieces:

I'd love the same type of thing for Herman

well, it would help knowing what type of comics you enjoy, judging from your post it seems your open to anything as long as its a good story?

Marvel has the "Milestone" Hardcover collection, which basically covers all their classic stuff in seperate volumes, as well as complete series in a single Volume like Howard the Duck and Devil Dinosaur.

Definitely get Blackest Night from DC, all of which is now available as Hardcover editions. Crisis on Infinite Earths is a must read and also available in a HC edition.

...and wow, My local comic shop cant even give those Bone omnibus collections away for free, they also are not the signed and numbered version though.

Years ago only the most popular runs were reprinted. Recently when I stopped at a comic store it seemed like everything is being reprinted. There were more trades than there were comics. Ohh how time changes.

    Try the Preacher.

@PD: Yeah, I'll read anything as long as it has a good story and I don't need to know a lot of background information first. Like Blackest Night, do I need to know anything about Green Lantern's history or can I just go in blind?

I'm also curious about how many different "super deluxe limited collector's OMG RARE spend your entire paycheck" editions are out there.

Preacher was awesome. That whole "meat" thing was hilariously disturbing.

That's the first edition of the one volume edition, there were only 2000 made which is why it's so expensive.

And now there's a new hardcover limited edition being sold from his website, fully in colour.

As much as I like his work and he's a nice guy, he's really milking his series for as much as he can. Even the regular softcover books have different covers with each printing so people will buy multiple copies of it. It is worth reading though, if you haven't read it at least get a softcover version of it.

My understanding is that Planet Hulk is absolutely awesome and worth checking out.

Miracleman is another series I would recommend.

The Miracleman trades are valuable for another reason. They are wanted by people who just want to read them and they will never be reprinted. Great storyline but because there is a dispute over ownership it is unlikely that they will ever be reprinted.

You can pick up a set of the issues in avg grade on the cheap. I got nearly a full run in quarter boxes.

Lynd Ward's wordless novels were just issued in a very nice hardcover edition with a case to hold them. Pricey ($75) but a nice addition to a graphic novel library. And if you'd like to check his work in a cheaper edition, Dover books has paperback editions of his and Frans Masereel's work. Or you could get Graphic Witness: Four Wordless Novels and get work by both of them and two others as well. It's cool stuff
Dude, they should have seriously put Kissinger and Nixon in their own reality/sit-com show. It would be like the odd couple.

Nixon: Is that chairman Mao on the phone?
Kissinger: Yes, but you can't speak to him, you're too drunk right now.

I think it's only available in paperback but I recommend Jeff Smith's Bone One Volume edition.

Dunno if it's your thing but in late 2009 IDW released a re-colored hardcover collection of The Rocketeer, my all time favorite comic, by the late Dave Stevens (coincidentally my all time favorite artist). The Deluxe Edition is where it's at, with tons of extra materials and a sturdy slipcase.

The first printing at $75.00 nearly instantly sold out (I was able to snag one toward the end of the run) and then the price began to skyrocket as most Dave Stevens stuff has since his too-soon passing from this world. A great alternative was the regular hardbound edition. However with the Deluxe Edition now back in stock with a second printing and at an absolute bargain price of less than $50.00, that's what I would recommend. Or both.

Additionally and more recently, four issues of "Rocketeer Adventures" were released. These feature new Rocketeer stories from a bunch of different talent. All four were good reads and did the source material justice.

If you want to crawl into a hole and feel depressed about life for months at a time I'd also recommend The Crow.

Seriously though a hauntly beautiful story of love lost from someone who must have experienced the darkest of depressions.

The movie is pretty good too but lacks the punch of the book.

If you like Horror anthologies check out the Creepy Archives and Eerie Archives collections. Basically it's collected volumes of the horror anthology magazines, they're some of the most classic Horror anthologies spawning some truly iconic stories like "Jenifer." If you're a fan of the Tales from the Crypt or similar you really owe it to yourself to check these out.
