Default Herzog Zwei returns (kind of): AirMech!

Coming soon for PC (hopefully XBLA/PSN).

    A dream come true.

    Kotaku Article.

This is essentially a modern version of Herzog Zwei. One of the greatest games of all time. #3 on my personal list. Also, let's be clear...if Technosoft was still in existence, they would be suing the pants off these guys.

Herzog Zwei was one of my favorites on the Genesis. I'd love to see this game make an appearance on the consoles, but I'd buy it on the PC as well.

No doubt. It may feel and look like a modernized version of Herzog Zwei (one of my favorite games of all time) but I doubt it will have the killer musical score to go along with it. That said, I DO want to play this.

Edit: One thing I just thought of...hopefully they have a feature that lets you play your own music selections, that way I can have THIS playing on every stage.

I've never played Herzog Zwei, but I doubt they'd be able to sue stealing a gameplay concept.

I seem to remember that there was an iphone game that ripped off Flow(garbage game regardless,) as well as another game from the same developer. Aside from the worse graphics, the Flow game was pretty much an exact copy.

Then there's also this, which is clearly a ripoff of Uncharted. Name similarities, story similarities, and even how the game looks.

You know, I'm a huge fan of strategy games. I bought into the hype with Herzog Zwei and tried for months to obtain a CIB under $20. Finally got lucky and got a $15 BIN a month or so ago.

I went to play it and I couldn't get into it at all? It looks like you fly your plane to nearby cities and attack them until they become yours. I never got into the combat part, I played for a few minutes and decided it wasn't for me.

What did I miss? Does the gameplay become that addictive? I'm definitely willing to give this game another chance at some point if it is really that great.

Playing it nowadays with the saturation and evolution of RTS games isn't going to give you the same effect as some of us who bought it when it originally came out and console RTS was sparse (if nearly non-existent). Did you play the single player campaign or the head-to head with another person? It's been my experience the difference is huge and the H2H experience is FAR superior than playing against the (annoying) CPU. I remember my brother and I going at it for hours at a time on that game.

Truly a game you had to experience with a friend. My copy feels so lonely just sitting on my shelf.

That looks like crap; It even has a few spots that are glitchy.

You could call Uncharted a copy of Tomb Raider, but I prefer the control scheme of Uncharted.

Wow, AirMech looks outstanding. I'd like to think it's more of a homage to Herzog Zwei than a rip off. I mean, it's basically an modern update of the same game.

Default Herzog Zwei finally gets an inspired remake. It's called AirMech!

Did you like pretty much the first RTS game ever made, Herzog Zwei?

    Then you'll just love this!

    Holy mother of God.

You can play the alpha version of AirMech in Google Chrome, just follow the instructions in the link I provided.

I sure hope AirMech gets finished and released on XBLA/PSN.

Is there no one on these forums that cares to reply?

Maybe I should've posted this in the Classic forum.

Great find! It even looks like it supports a control pad. It'll be a while before I can give it a try, but if it does play like Herzog Zwei this is phenominal! I will only be disappointed by the casual browser gaming crowd completely ignoring it, but still, awesome!

I only hope the game gets finished with great map variety and music. Herzog Zwei is my favorite Genesis game by far. I hope AirMech gets released on other platforms besides Google Chrome.

Sorry I didn't see that thread.

I'm a huge fan of Herzog Zwei and was crushed when the rumored sequel for Sega 32X never happened.

Not the first RTS of all time, have no idea where that came from. However:

A remake of a game that was essencially broken (but nice to play) with dated mechanics NOW? Especially since most RTS games on consoles after have failed almost every single time. Halo Wars was a good try though.

Well what was the first RTS game, the original Herzog on MSX (or whatever Japanese computer platform it was on) ?

Herzog Zwei came out in Japan for the MegaDrive in late 1989, years before Dune II or C&C.
