What worries me about Onlive is that I feel it will be dead within a year and any game I purchased I will no longer have access to.

It's not, but they do require you to set-up and register the console within 7 days of receipt. If you fail to do so, you will get charged the full $100 value. If you can't connect because of issues with your ISP, you have to return the console at your expense or again you'll be charged. The shipping is $10 or $20 depending on the speed you want it to be delivered. If you live in a state with sales tax, you will also be charged whatever the tax would be on the $100 console. Actually, I'm sure they have an automated delivery confirmation system like most online businesses that ship items out. I'm assuming it's to prevent people from reselling them or collecting them.

I just did the preorder. It was a little confusing.
I went into the onlive app and clicked pre-order and there wasn't really any notification that I was getting a free console. I was a little concerned.
A few seconds later I got an email confirming the purchase and giving me a promo code for a console. You have to go to the onlive website, order it as usual, and input the code, which knocks the price down to zero.
You need to pay for additional controllers and component cables (in case your TV doesn't support HDMI). I just stuck with HDMI and a single controller.
Price of shipping was $9.99 for 2 day shipping or $19.99 overnight.
is it possible to preorder, get the code then cancel my preorder?

If you want the console just pay for it. It really is a good deal.
