Default Happy 16th Birthday, US Sega Saturn!

    Someone had to.

My, you're getting old, Saturn! Rather, I am. Still remember when you were just in diapers... *sniff*

I still remember walking into Game World looking for something to buy and seeing a Saturn on display. I assumed it was an import and was kinda surprised when the clerk told me it actually launched that week. Sitting in that little makeshift kiosk they had it really did look like it was in a premi incubator.

I didn't really believe the clerk that Saturn was out already, but when a friend of mine got one from his Mom I sure didn't mind playing the games that summer. I certainly wouldn't have guessed that inconspicuous event would become the source of so many editorials throughout the years.

It came out when I was about turn 12 years old in the hot summer of 1995... Man good times

I was still playing the heck out of my Genesis hoping I could get my hands on a Saturn on my birthday that July. Unfortunately it was like 400 dollars and I couldn't convince my dad to buy it for me. He ended up getting me a 32x which we all know how that turned out for most people.....

Anyway I eventually got one in 1997 when prices started to go down. I remember it being less impressive than the Playstation, yet it still was not a bad system overall. I really enjoyed Deep Fear and Die Hard Arcade for it. The Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat games were a step up from the Genesis and SNES. It also had some good RPG's.

While still not as legendary as the Dreamcast, the Saturn wasn't a horrible system if u had just came from a SNES/Genesis and as long as u could get the games for cheap. Otherwise the Playstation and N64 were obviously better than it in every possible way except for 2d rendering.

Oh, I remember a gigantic Sega Saturn flag hanging from the top of Toy R Us to ring in the occasion. I didn't want one because I thought Virtua Fighter was the ugliest game ever, and I would rather stick with my Genesis if that was what 3D was going to be. So I got a 32X the following Christmas instead... *sigh*

Wow! 16 years old! I still remember getting a call from the manager at Babbages telling me the system arrived unexpectedly. Went after school and picked it up!

Happy birthday Saturn! I still remember playing the hell out of games like Sonic R, Daytona USA, and Panzer Dragoon Saga.

I'm not as much of a fan of the Saturn as I am of the Dreamcast, but Happy Birthday! Dragon Force is an excellent game and reason enough to own the console.

    Default HAPPY 16th BIRTHDAY E3!!!!

E3 was first held on May 11, 1995 in Los Angeles. And that was where it was announced that the Saturn was available immediately!

I remember not really caring about or paying much attention to Saturn or any new system that was either out (3DO) or on the horizon (PSX), because 16-bit gaming was great to me and I saw no need to replace those systems. Then I walked into my local game store one day and they had the Saturn out on display with Panzer Dragoon. I watched that intro and I was immediately interested. There was no way I was going to get a $400 system that only had a few games, but that event that made me "care". By the end of the year the price had dropped by $100 and it had a very respectable library, and that's when I picked up a Saturn.

The SEGA Saturn still remains my all-time favorite gaming platform, and ironically one of the ones I've had for the shortest amount of time. First picked one up for $35 at a garage sale during the summer of '09, then picked up a couple of games for it, including Virtua Fighter Kids and X-Men Children of the Atom. At first I was afraid I had bought a system with no games worth playing on it.

Then I picked up NiGHTS with the 3D Controller and there was no turning back. It quickly became my favorite game of all-time, I must say. Then came Burning Rangers, Sega Rally, Daytona USA, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Minnesota Fats, Die Hard Arcade, Sonic R, Fighters Megamix, the list goes on and on.

Here's to you Sega Saturn! For giving me the most enjoyment out of any video game system.

Really? I purchased it in the launch window, but don't think I heard when it dropped on day 1. I didn't have an Internet connection back then...

Happy Birthday Saturn, even though I've only had you since 2008! Too bad you didn't get as much recognition as you deserved back then.
