Yup,.it's real. There was an article about it in the la times. They said the first batch of them had already sold out.

I saw this yesterday and thought that it was awesome. btw, shouldn't this be in the classic computer section? That section needs more recognition.

This has been talked about to death on most of the retrocomputing forums I visit.
The consensus seems to be that it's extremely overpriced (the $250 price iss for just the shell and keyboard), but some like the retro facade.
Personally, I'd love to get the case, or better yet, a VIC-20 themed one, but at that price, it's not gonna happen.

It would have been cool if at least the higher end model was 64bit.

I know it's a tad off topic, but they aren't as overpriced as Sony Vaio laptops. Just saw the newest models and the price is literally RAPE...just because it's "Sony".

I bet if Sony would release the Commodore computers, they would be much, MUCH more expensive.

Anyway, I'm really interested in the old C64 looking one. Doubt it will reach PR, but if it does, I might pick up the cheapest version.

When I saw this I filed it under want, but I moved it to sort of want after reading the specs. I'd want a more powerful PC for the price they're asking, and $250 for a case isn't that great. I'd still love to have one of these, but I think I'll wait for a later run. Especially since the OS isn't even released yet.

If I could get one of these for under $100, I'd probably grab it....especially if it did Amiga as well as C64 emulation. That being said...it's SPENDY...but kinda neat

Of course it does Amiga emulation. It's a PC.

Those "Amigas" are nothing but PCs, housed in an off-the-shelf chinese case with an engraved logo, and they're about 2.5x the cost of the same computer without the logo. Or with it, come to think of it. The case manufacturer will engrave whatever you want if you order the case in volume.
Commodore USA is nothing but a generic PC reseller trying to cash in on a legacy that isn't theirs.

Agreed. This is completely unrelated to Commodore or anything else at this point other than that they are slapping the Commodore name and case onto a super mediocre and overpriced PC.

Since there's no kind of emulation of the C64 in this unit, all it does is look like a C64. Big whoop.

Awhile ago I came across something along these lines that seems more legit - the AmigaOne X1000 is a modern PowerPC machine with custom innards that was designed to run AmigaOS natively. It was still in development last I'd read about it, but apparently it was released around the beginning of 2012.

There was a sort of beta release of the A1X1K, so that developers and testers could put it through its paces. The OS still doesn't support the hardware all that well, but AmigaOS 4.2 is supposed to fix that. It's an interesting machine, but it's very expensive for what it is.

There's also the Natami project, which aims to create the ultimate classic Amiga using an FPGA. There are other FPGA Amiga clones, like minimig and FPGA Arcade Replay, but they're mostly intended to recreate the old machines, rather than expand on them.
