Default Gotta ask my geeky question: Star Trek The Experience

So, I can't just waltz into Vegas without checking out this glitzy shrine to all things good and geeky. Is Friday a good night to hit ST:TE? How crowded is it on average? Anyone else gonna head that way?

Just thought I'd ask. Between basking in the classic arcade goodness, and getting to go a little Trekkie for a bit, I'm planning on geeking OUT on August weekend.

The Star Trek Experience is Rad. K Rad, even. I totally enjoyed it. Even waiting in line is cool, the whole place is done up like one of the Trek hallways with all sorts of memorabilia to look at. I spent more time just looking at all the props and stuff than I did on the ride. The ride itself is pretty awesome too. The cool thing is, a pass will get you on the ride as many times as you want for one day. I'd gladly go with you Earl, as I'm sure others would as well.

I went last year on a saturday when cge was over for the day, and there was no crowd... Last year the ticket was $26.00 but you can go on it as many times as you like for the whole day.. Its a great ride.....

I keep meaning to check that out when I'm there (that and Penn & Teller), but I never get around to it. Maybe this year...

It's a good time. I've been there twice. The SECOND time I stopped at the bar

The ride itself is pretty neat. Half of it is a kind of a "tour" of the ship, then there's the actual ride. It's not rollercoaster crazy but it's pretty realistic. I'm not a big-time Star Trek guy so I probably missed some things in context but it IS fun and much safer than that disaster waiting to happen at the Stratosphere.

Count me as a Trekkie geek who's been there - done that. Loved the museum-ish line. The timeline of the Federation was also quite interesting. However, I was there pre-Enterprise, so it'll be interesting to see how they fit that show's history in with the timeline.

The ride itself is well-done and gives you a real sense of "You are there." But, I gotta tell ya, I got a BAD case of motion sickness on it - and I'm a ride hound. I'm not certain what happened, but I came off it more than a little shaky. But I hung out at Quark's for an hour afterwards and was right as rain after a few Pangalactic Gargle-Blasters. If you go, I'll go too. But I'll be hanging out at DS9 rather than take a chance of having my innards tossed like a salad. x_x

And, lest you all forget, Cedar Point is still on for Septemeber. Details will be hammered out at CGE, so stay tuned!

Star Trek is definitely one of the cool things to do. You can find other things to do in Vegas right here at our handy "CGE - things to do in Vegas page"

    http://www.cgexpo.com/info/todo/index.html

As an aside note, Gameworks has promised to supply us with "double dollar" coupons. which means they'll double the value of the card you buy. So if you buy a $10 card, you'll get a $20 card for the same price.

There's a lot more to be announced so stay tuned!

    See you in 30.

Maybe we should have a 'mini trekkie meeting' after CGE one day. Have all the trek fans that are there for CGE meet at Quark's bar and have a few drinks while talking games and trek.

    Default Star Trek

    Hey Earl,

Definitely go for it. ST:TE is AWESOME. Seeing that was my number two priority on my list of "to do" stuff when I went last year. It's great for all the reasons described above; I can do no better. Kudos to the Sniderman for recommending it to me. I feel pretty darned bummed that I'm not attending CGE this year. The best part is the virtual reality thrillride on the shuttlecraft.

The one thing about the Bridge visit/VR ride that stands out in my mind, though, was the incessant naysaying of a snotty, 12-ish boy... you know the type, they're "too cool" for this kind of stuff (oh, the middle years) and refuse to allow themselves to be enveloped in the fantasy of it all. This kid kept saying stuff like (in response to the transporter effect) "Oh, this is so fake!" and things like that. No kidding it's fake, kid. Just shut up.

    Enjoy it, man!

The Transporter thing is RAD. K RAD. M RAD even.

I love the Klingon and the Ferengi that go running around the deck, too. They have a great shtick going where the Ferengi hounds the Klingon until the Klingon holds him up against a wall. It's a ton of fun, I can't wait to go again this year.

We were like this close to checking out the Star Trek Experience during the weekend after our wedding, but we got too wrapped up in all that family and social hoooo haaaaa. Feh.

I'd love to check it out. Getting the Mr. to go may be the trick. He's not at the level of geek that I am.

Hey, I'm up for anything! Last year I didn't really get a chance to go out and see much of Vegas (a shame), so if anyone would like to play tourist, I'd be happy to go along!

I went to it a year ago... it was alright, but nothing I would go to see again. My buddy certainly liked it, may his soul rest in peace.

I'm also looking into fulfilling a longtime ambition of going to see Blue Man Group, but daaaaaaaamn, are those some pricey tickets.

Yeah I considered doing that last year but I think the tickets were over $100. I wonder if you can get them cheaper somewhere if you get them early? Maybe I'll skip the parties and actually go out and see Vegas this year. However it's hard to spend money on shows knowing that you could buy alot of nice stuff at the expo instead.

Pricey, but a damn good show!!! You are engulfed in sound and visuals. I didn't actually pay for our tickets, though. I won them, but I would pay for them to see them again if I could. If you have the dough, it's a worthwhile investment!

I've tried *three* times to get Blue Man tickets and have missed out each time. I promised myself that - at the very least - I would buy a video of their performance to bring home. It may be all I can get this year as there's little chance of me scraping up the scratch for tix.

Oh, I'll be happy to Trek along with everyone else, but I ain't boardin' no shuttles this time. I'll just be playing Dabo at Quark's when you disembark.

Did it last year on an "off-CGE day". ST was AWESOME, but we bought one of the combo tix they were offering - they called it "Race N Space" or something like that. Gave you entrance into the 3D IMAX ride in Ceasars. THAT SUCKED. (Where's the barfing emoticon when you need it?) Jerked you around - wanted to unbuckle the seatbelt and stop the ride so no one else was traumatized. Quark's Bar is a tad pricey, but cool to eat at. The actors dressed as the characters really know their parts well (ie. the languages they speak, mannerisms, etc.) Was wonderful. Going again this year!

Well what else do you do when you're a Trekkie with no other skills? Sounds like a perfect job to me.

I'm in if people are still talking to me.

I'll be your bodyguard, man. Nobody's falling out of that shuttlecraft.

Looks like Friday is out for me, how's everyone on a Saturday night Trek? (That's when TNG was on when I was in my teens, so it's just fitting somehow.)
