Joe King
Joe [Ferreira] King, came to Mattel Electronics showing tremendous enthusiasm from the moment he walked in the door, greeting his interviewer with the question: "Is it as much fun to work here as I think it is?"
Joe worked on a greater variety of game systems than any other artist or programmer at Mattel Electronics, contributing graphics for games on the Intellivision, Atari 2600, Apple II, Aquarius and ColecoVision. He was also chosen to do demo screens for Intellivision III and the top secret Intellivision IV.
His Intellivision titles included Motocross, Loco-Motion and Space Shuttle. With programmer Steve Ettinger, he was co-designer of the games Magic Carousel and Hover Force.
After "the crash", he became the only Blue Sky Ranger to return to Mattel, becoming the Licensing Art Director in the former Electronics building.
When management turned down the opporTOONity to to aquire Stan Lee's X-MEN property after Joe personally championed it through the toy compmany's internal gauntlet -- he left -- and started his own design business: Pendragon Studios, fulfilling freelance toy gigs for Playmates, Matchbox, Universal Studius, Marvel and Disney.
Today, Joe syndicates his own comic-creations over the Internet at WWW.FUNNYPAPERZ.COM. Current features appear daily in the USA, Sweden, South Africa, Australia and the Netherlands. With more than 1,000,000 visitors to his website to date, Joe is being laughed at in more than 14 different countries.
