10/19 penny guide drops

Alright, a few people at CAG are really pissed that I've reposted the drop info over here, so I've deleted the list. They came up with it, so I suppose it's theirs to control. Seems fair I guess.

From now on if there is a good drop I'll just post something to the effect of "Big drop, check CAG!". Hopefully that will suffice.

Oh man, so awesome. If anyone manages to find the PoP or Mirror's Edge, I'll gladly give you lots more than you paid for it (lol?), since i don't think I'll be able to get to a GameStop now that finals are upon me.

Thanks for the heads up. I just picked up Mirror's Edge for $10 so I could use that guide. If I find the Fallout 3 guide it's yours because I don't have that game yet.

I hit a couple Gamestops. The employees told me the following: technically, pennied guides ring up as free, they're just kept at a penny in the system for tracking purposes. One of the employees admitted to taking stacks of them home for free, and trashing the ones they don't keep. They pretty much made it sound impossible to grab guides before the employees get to them.

Also, it sounded like the 4/28 date was a day or two after the discount actually went into effect.

Yeah, it's very difficult to get penny guides at GS. I have only found them on the shelf once. The best way I've found to get them is to make nice with the employees the day of the drop. Just go in and ask if they have one specific guide, and hope they'll let you have it. If you starting asking for multiple guides they might shut you out, so don't be greedy.

Also, it's not a good idea to ask about "penny guides". This raises a flag and more often than not you will get shut down.

Back in the day Best Buy(among other places) would actually put a penny price tag on the guides and put them back on the shelves. Today, Best Buy never puts tags on them. Gamestop either puts tags on them and keeps them in a box behind the counter(or in the back room) or just rips off the cover and leaves them in that same box until they decide to throw them out.

These days penny guides have become increasingly hard to get, even when you know where to find them. Part of this is because some companys mandate that the guides are not to be sold for a penny. They can still be found though and having an inside source helps.

Has anyone seen this one, for those of who went. BTW: CE means Collector's Edition? I am pretty sure, but just asking.

I never saw one but I know a bunch of people found them. And yeah, CE means collector's edition. It might actually be an LE (limited edition), I can't remember. It's the only hardcover there is though, so just look for that.

I found all of these today. With the exception of the Gears of War 2 guide(they only had one) everything was in abundance. Theres even some guides that I completely passed on(Super Mario Galaxy, Saints Row 2, etc). But most surprising of all was that Best Buy had finally started to mark some of these guides as a penny by a price tag on the rack in front of several guides. So atleast now people who walk by know that they can grab some of these guides on the cheap. But the majority of them still weren't marked.

Ghostbusters (x2, all of them)
Metroid Prime Trilogy (only one)
Zelda TP (only one)

I'd like a Fallout 3 and/or Little Big Planet if you (or anyone) got an extra. Any of mine are for trade except Zelda, MP, and 1 of the Ghostbusters.

Success! I got the last Fallout 3 guide, and grabbed another Gears 2 and SFIV while I was at it. I also found a Metroid Prime trilogy guide that I didn't see last time, so that's cool. They also had a SSBB guide which I didn't realize had pennied awhile ago. I'll have to grab it some other time.
