Default Augh! Game Genie no worky as passthrough on...

Hagane, which I wanted to try out pretty badly.

So I emulated it instead a bit. I get owned pretty hardcore by the long run, and later on by the factory (lava). Such an awesome game though.

Games that have worked so far:

    Contra Spirits
    Caravan Shooting Collection
    Rendering Ranger
haven't tried out a ton of other games yet though...

To explain what I'm doing, I've taken a Game Genie out of its shell and I use it as a pass-through. Carefully fit a SFC game on top of it, and the Game Genie PCB sits tight in the SNES Model 2.

But I'm thinking it's time to get a real Super Famicom - partly so I can use S-video.

The problem you have here is Game Genie no worky on a Model 2 SNES.

Wait, you said some games worked? I don't know what the problem is then.

Heh, I used the same method on my Model 2 SNES. Instead of removing the Genie from its' shell, I just snipped the two little tabs on the inside of it (similar to the tabs inside the SNES itself that prevent SFC games from fitting properly) and the games fit on the Genie just fine. I played Super Dodge Ball and one of the Dragonball Z games and they worked great, so...... I don't know what to tell you!

The only reason I can think of that a game might not work is if it has an FX chip or the extra connectors (they might be one and the same, but I don't remember now). If they have the extra connectors, the game genie only has the slots, but not the actual, working, female connectors to support it.

You're right the Super Famicom would be better for a number of reasons, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

    Thanks for the response.

Hagane is a pretty sweet game with lots of graphical effects, but nothing seems to be using a SuperFX chip. I'll have a look at the pins on the cartridge's connector later to see if your theory is correct!

I swear I saw somebody else posting this elsewhere a few days ago...possibly not. But anyhow, it's not true that a Game Gear will not work on a Model 2 SNES. I haven't tried inputting any codes, but I see no reason it wouldn't work. The input screen shows up just fine.

From what I've heard, there were two versions of the Game Genie.
After Nintendo made some anti-copier mods (still making model 1 consoles) that also broke GG support, Galoob released an updated GG.
Or at least that is what I remember reading in Gamepro or something back in the day.

    Could that make a difference?

Yes, there's multiple versions of the Game Genie, and they both have compatibility issues with the redesigned mini SNES. Both will show the code screen and appear to be working normally. However, the codes won't work at all using the older GG, and the just the first and last code lines will work on the newer GG.

Hmm. I apologize for my incorrect assumptions. I consider that pretty authoritative. For my purposes, it was working, but it wouldn't be too incredible if a simple pass-through function would work.

Now I'm wondering if Hagane would work if connected directly to the SNES2...time to open that thing up then!
