    Default N64 Steering Wheel Quirk

I got a Mad Catz steering wheel for the N64 at the flea market this weekend. So I plug it in and my N64 won't work. I notice the power light isn't even coming on (note: it worked fine before). So I get the spare out of the basement and plug it in, without the wheel. Game come on, tells me to plug in a controller. I shut the power off, plug the wheel into the N64, hit the power and get nothing. The power light even goes out after like a second. So what gives? Has anyone experienced this before?

Did the consoles work after this (with or without a nonwheel controller)?

I've seen failing N64 power supplies that acted the way you describe. It powers on, then fades out. Try getting a buddies Power supply for testing - and avoid using that madcatz wheel for testing. It 'could' be some weird force feedback power draw fault, caused by a faulty wheel.

    That's my half ass guess.

Thanks. I'm guessing it must be the wheel itself that's screwed up since both N64's worked fine before that. There goes my "sweet" $3 flea market find....

Don't sweat it, it's not that sweet a find anyway...
