Just 5, 6 years ago, you didn't see the word much (or at least I didn't in my gaming travels). Nowadays everyone and their brothers think they're an expert on obscure games, with youtube channels to prove it. It's been used so much (and in some cases poorly chosen) that I sort of cringe now whenever I see the word being thrown around like free condiments.
