Just off the top of my head:

    1. Super Mario Bros. 3
    2. The Legend of Zelda: The Hyrule Fantasy
    3. Final Fantasy VI
    4. Comix Zone
    5. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
    6. Doom
    7. Resident Evil (GCN)
    8. Silent Hill
    9. Burnout 3: Takedown
    10. Mortal Kombat II

Feel free to make your own lists. I'm not a big fan of Street Fighter II so you can replace MK II with it if you'd like, that's what I did with Street Fighter when Mortal Kombat didn't even get mentioned on an arcade top ten episode of Filter on G4. There are so many great games to choose from I don't think a definitive list is possible.

I know my list is going to look "trendy" or "fanboyish" to alot of people here. However, these are the games that I believe have actually lived up to the hype and praise around them and I have had the most fun with.

    In no particular order:

    Final Fantasy 3/6
    Chrono Trigger
    Grandia 1
    Nights
    Rocket Knight Adventure
    Mario Allstars
    Castlevania: SOTN
    Zelda: LTTP
    Megaman: Anniversary Collection
    Panzer Dragoon Saga

    Runner ups:

    Metroid Prime
    Metal Slug 3
    Contra 3
    Phantasy Star
    Tradegamesnow and GameTZ feedback.

I can't believe I never posted in this one either! It's going to be an extremely hard pick, though... asking me to put them in order would cause my head to a splode.

    Castlevania III (NES)
    Contra (NES)
    Bionic Commando (NES)
    Gunstar Heroes (Genesis)
    Axelay (SNES)
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Playstation)
    Gradius III (SNES)
    Ninja Gaiden (NES)
    Actraiser (SNES)
    Castlevania (NES)

That list is subject to change in the future. Man, that had to be the most painful decision I made.
That's it! Next stop: The Junkyard. Population: You!

Just so my list isn't totally dominated by tri-Ace games, I'm gonna lump them all together at the top. The order is pretty random after the top three entries.

tri-Ace's games (Star Ocean series, Valkyrie Profile, Radiata Stories)
    Chrono Trigger (SNES)
    Super Mario All-Stars (SNES)
    Goemon's Great Adventure (N64)
    Wonder Project J2 (N64)
    Super Mario 64 (N64)
    Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES)
    Super Mario RPG (SNES)
    Kirby Super Star (SNES)
    Marvelous (SFC)

I left out the Castlevania series, even though it truly belongs on there just because I couldn't pick one as being above all others (and even though I cheated with tri-Ace's games, I don't want to turn this into a favorite series list). I also left out the other two DKC games and the first Wonder Project J game, even though they are very important to me. My list contains a lot of games I grew up with and had a big impact on me. When I try to do a list like this, the best way I can think of it is by asking "What games give me a warm, gushy feeling when I think about them?" Some give me that feeling mostly because of nostalgia (besides the fact that they're great games), while others I played fairly recently like Marvelous. But all were so great that they burned the memory of the period in which I played them into my head. I'll never forget the last few days I lived in my mother's apartment which I had been living in for 10 years thanks to Marvelous, or the days in junior high when I wore a DKC2 sweatshirt to school and packed around the Chrono Trigger strategy guide. Good times. :)

I also wanted to list some more influencial games such as dragon warrior or zelda. Two series I'm hell bent on collecting but it's hard to pick just one game from either. I also failed to mention any PC rpgs such as fallout 2 or Arcanum which I also love. Guess 10 spots really just isn't enough.
