From what I heard it was just that the widescreen version was a cropped 4:3 image. That is, they just cropped off the top/bottom of the 4:3 picture (whereas normally they would cut off the sides of a 16:9 picture to fit a 4:3). I don't think this is anything you would normally notice unless you played the game a fair bit on a 4:3 TV or saw all the pictures on the internet. Now I'm not actually playing on a 16:9, so I can't say for positive, but I seriously doubt the widescreen version feels so cramped that you'd be able to tell without hearing about it first (judging by screenshot comparisons).

Yes, ocassionally my sound will cut out but not any kind of skipping, nothing I'd call severe that I've seen so far. The biggest problems with the sound on my end are occasionally certain things will just disappear, ie: the clicking of the pipes while hacking.

Running through hard mode at the moment after beating normal. Harvesting all the little sisters this time, doesn't really seem to be a huge advantage in ADAM IMHO, especially with the teddy bear trade off for saving them. The only thing giving my headaches is of course the big daddies...that is until I got the crossbow. For a while I was using the grenade launcher which works well but TRAP BOLTS FTW. Lay five of those suckers and lure mr bubbles right through ;D. Incendiary Bolts do an extreme amount of damage to Big Daddies as well, I think more than the grenade launcher even. Standard Bolts are just as kick ass although I havent used any against BD's yet.

Damn...wish I didn't ignore that weapon in normal now, lol....

Bioshock is alot like system shock 2 where alot of scary so called background sound is used to freak peopl out it might be the speaker system I use a creative one and man all different sounds come out of them sorta like a left right rear thing. maybe a sound channel.

Well, I got my 360 to turn on long enough to boot up Bioshock (get my hopes up) and then lock up again on the "start new game" screen. Some things weren't meant to be, I guess.

This forum does not have spoiler tags so I will refrain from reading the rest of the thread...

But this game is fucking art. GOTY hands down. A crime this won't be the best selling game of the year either. I didn't think it was possible to make System Shock 2 better... but they did it.

A FPS that has no multiplayer component doesn't deserve GOTY. No matter how good it is. Plain and simple.

Watch the latest video preview of Call of Duty 4 over at IGN, and tell me Bioshock is still "GOTY hands down".

    STRONGLY disagree.

Multiplayer doesn't necessarily make or break a game.... I've been hearing so many complaints about this game lacking multiplayer. it's actually starting to piss me off. We've probably all been playing games long before there was even an internet, it's amazing how fast everyone has become so spoiled on it... I barely ever play multiplayer.

Since when did there become this unwritten law that every game on the face of the planet has to have online multiplayer? IMO, playing online would be the same old deathmatches found in every other FPS known to man. Not to mention the plethora of immature 12-year-olds that completely destroy the experience.

I have to disagree also. A lot of FPS multiplayer modes are all the same thing. I'm currently playing in the CoD4 multiplayer beta and, though I can't say anything specific. I can tell you that it's a lot of the same with some extra stuff added on top. Not that big a deal. For me, I've had the best multiplayer experiences with BF2 on PC and R6:Vegas on the 360. Those games truly offered something unique that made playing multiplayer fun. But, to say that a game without multiplayer cannot be GOTY is crazy talk. Most games suck at MP anyways. Plus, the single player experience in Bioshock is one of the best of all time IMO.

I finished this game last night around 12am

6 hours day 1, 3.5 day 2, and then 1.5 day 3. The ending? Well depending on what I did...is what effected it the most....my thoughts? I'm going to have to play through this again because I missed ALOT. I was more focused on the depth storyline than the actual exploration of it all. So 2nd run should begin sometime next week. Overall, amazing game by far.

I disagree with you, because Multiplayer for the most part doesn't determine how good a game is, it helps but if the game has a decent Singleplayer and a great Multiplayer versus a Fantastic Singleplayer game

To say that an FPS needs a multiplayer component and if it doesn't have it than it's taken out of the running? that's garbage and pretty bias IMO

honestly I would be more happy if alot more games contained no online multiplayer for many games it's not required and shouldn't matter but it's thrown in because it's supposedly "required" which is bullshit.

I can understand games like Halo 3 and COD 4 have multiplayer but a game like Bioshock doesn't need it, especially since it seems like Multiplayer would have been thrown in and been crap which would of hurt such an outstanding game.

I think heybtbm is confused. That's the only reason I can find for anyone to mention Bioshock and Call of Duty in the same sentence.

Just because Bioshock is played from a first person perspective, many people make the mistake of slapping the generic FPS tag on it - the same exact thing happened with Metroid Prime. If anything, if Bioshock had a multiplayer option it would definitely feel like a tacked on afterthought (Metroid Prime Echoes anyone?), and playing online against immature kids shouting "PWNED!!1!" at every chance they get could potentially even ruin the game's unique atmosphere. For this reason, I'm actually *happy* that Bioshock didn't choose the "me too" route and add multiplayer just for the sake of it.

    Oh, I'll admit to that.

I guess I should be more specific. What I'm referring to when I mentioned "multiplayer" is overall value. I agree 100% with the people that dislike "tacked on" multiplayer components. Prey, F.E.A.R, The Darkness...those games have terrible multiplayer and really add nothing to the experience.

However by applying the same logic, other games with a robust multiplayer component deserve extra credit for going beyond their single player experience and transforming into something truly great (Rainbow Six: Vegas, Call of Duty, BF2:MC, Ghost Recon). These are games that you can play for 100's of hours online. How many times can you play through Bioshock? Quite a few it sounds like, but certainly not enough times to equal 100 - 200 hours.

In a nutshell, I'm saying that great games that achieve this extra bit of value should be the only titles worthy of GOTY. I'm not saying Bioshock needs multiplayer...it can obviously stand on its own (and then some). BUT...there is simply too much competition out there that has quality mulitiplayer and will be just as good (or at least close) in the single player department. Remember, there can only be one GOTY. I'm not saying Bioshock isn't going to be 2nd or 3rd.

I beat it last night, too, but I spent a good time exploring and taking pictures. Getting ready to go back through again on hard. The ending (At least the ending I got...) kind of left more questions than it did awnsers. Especially the very last couple of seconds.

But thats what sequels are for.

And after playing this, I have the sudden urge to read Atlas Shrugged.... I can't imagine why.

I just finished it a 2nd time tonight and the new ending I got was MUCH MUCH better compared to the one I recently recieved.

Anyhow, after finishing this game twice I must say it's been probably the most fun filled and gripping game I've played in a LONG, LONG time. I think the game could do very well with Co-op, much the same way System Shock 2 did, which was added quite a while after it's release. Double teaming Big Daddies would be so sweet ;D.

I'm quite sad I've already blown through all 1000 gamerpoints for the game already and done both endings. I absolutely hope we see some kind of new additional content for this game in this distant future! Now I'm gonna have to satisfy my craving for more with some co-op system shock 2. I've gone through it with one friend before, and would love to get 4 of my friends together to play ;D.

I figure other's replies have said what I feel about heybtbm's response to my post, but yeah... CoD4? Lol. Come on. Just as Bioshock doesn't have multiplayer, CoD4 won't 'have' a single player.

As Lord_Magus said, mentioning Bioshock, a well crafted, beautiful story in the same sentence as Call of Duty, a feable attempt to cash in on a series that has worn itself out, is a crime.

    Please.

It's frustrating how some people only read what they want in post meanwhile completely ignoring what is actually typed in front of their eyes. I can just see a bunch of people with their lower lips sticking out, shaking their fists at their computer monitors.

    "He's slamming Bioshock...I'll show him!"

I think some of you need to relax.

I never once compared Call of Duty 4 with Bioshock. I never said Call of Duty 4 is better than Bioshock. Other posters are the ones that inferred a comparison between the two. Slamming CoD4 doesn't offend me. I just used CoD4 as an example of an awesome upcoming game that has the potential to be GOTY, just like Bioshock. I enjoy multiplayer FPS and think single player FPS get boring and stale too quickly. I like human opponents more than AI. These are OPINIONS (gasp). How does that warrant personal attacks?

Bioshock should have a kart racer game in the options.
How can you not have unlockable go karts and still be a good game?

    I give it a 2.4 out of 15
