Today i saw a cheap game boy player that attatches to the bottom of the gamecube, and it had no boot disk. will it still work and play any game boy games? if not, would nintendo tech support send me another one if i called in?

I'm 90% sure it will not work without the boot disk. Nintendo has the startup disk for sale on thier website for $15.
just go to Nintendo online store/ Gamecube/ parts and accessories.
they also have shit loads of replacement parts for the gamecube as well.

Even if the cost of the Game Boy Player is somewhat prohibitive, keep in mind that you only need one of these to turn your Gamecube into a mini SNES...
Well worth it IMO.
