    Default Universal USB Convertor @ Wal-Mart $10

Anyone else pick one of these up yet? They're in the gaming section of Wal-Mart.

It connects to your PC via USB and allows you to connect a PS2, Gamecube, or Xbox 1 controller. I just picked one up tonight for around $10. I'm about to hook it up and try it out so I'll let you know if it's crap or not.

I figure it's a cheap local alternative to Ebay or import stores.

Well, I've tested it out with a standard PS2 controller and so far so good! The controls feel just right (tested it out on Street Fighter Alpha 3 via MAME).

A little bit of button re-mapping and it was good to go. The analog sticks will be great for games like Smash TV or Robotron. I'll have to try them out.

    EDIT:

Tested it out with Total Carnage- PERFECT! The dual analog sticks are perfectly mappable and works great!!!

$10 at Wal-Mart folks! Go get one!

Cool cool! If I didn't already have a USB converter for my PS2 controller, I'd go for it.

So on the box it can work with any OS like somebody mentioned?

Can it work with ZSNES and Gens?

If it can then I will be able to play all these games on my PC with no problem and no keyboard again.

Imagine the ePSXe + Real Game + Universal adapter + Wireless controller + happy hour

Sorry Mac users! This appears to only work with:

Win 98, ME, 2000, XP and Vista! (or so it says on the packaging)

The device should be compatible with any program that utilizes controllers, ie emulators!

I hate Wally World, but I'll try to pick one of these up and test it on OS X and the PS3.

Man, I've had too many bad experiences trying to get USB controllers to run in OS X. I think I'll wait until someone comes up with a better solution.

I saw this, and am really interested. The XBox controller port is sweet, I love that pad.

If they're still there in July I'll grab one when I'm over... got a dedicated one for the Cube, could do with another (nothing like two arcade sticks in MAME for two player action!).

From the sound of things, you can have up to 3 people on the device simultaneously. 1 on PS2, 1 on Xbox (remember, it's original only!), and 1 on Gamecube!

We had this on clearance at my store for $3 and when I went to go grab it, sure enough it was gone.

I got one a few days ago. Used it with Final Fantasy VII (PC version) and it works great.

I tried it with Fable (PC) but it's not working there. Dunno why. Maybe I have to do something to get it to work?

Well, when I booted up the install disc, I noticed it did not load drivers for the Xbox controller.....perhaps this happened with your copy?

Still might be worth a try. I've plugged lots of crazy PC-only USB stuff into my Mac and OSX almost always recognizes it.

yeah, I don't see why it wouldn't work under OSX, but you'd probably need to use a shareware like USB Overdrive to have it recognized.

BTW, if you have a Mac and an Xbox 360, you can make the 360's wired controller work on the Mac. Someone wrote a driver for OSX.

yeah, I've actually been close to doing that lately since I can't seem to find those saturn controllers.

But if I can get one of these to work, this plus a used type s controller will most likely be cheaper than a wired 360 pad.

Well, I'm using the PS2 controller. I figured since it was a PC game, it'd work anyway.

You actually don't need an adapter if you want to use and Xbox controller. They're just standard USB internally but with a different plug, so you can yank the regular plug off and solder a USB plug on and they'll work fine.

In windows they require no driver, either. They just get recognized as a standard USB HID controller, so if there's any kind of generic USB controller driver for OSX, it should work with an Xbox controller.

This is also probably why the converter Damaramu is talking about didn't load any drivers specifically for the Xbox controller when he installed it. They're not needed.

I've got a strange request for those of you have already bought one of these:

If you own an X-arcade stick with a PS2 adapter can you see if this works in MAME?

I've been trying to get the real USB adapter from xarcade for a while but it is perpetually on backorder. I know my stick also came with a free PS2 adapter which is sitting in the box still since I have the stick hooked up to my PC via the computer P/S2 keyboard port. If it works then I can dump the old keyboard and then just plug the stick in when I want it versus always having it attached.

It's time for the four month bump of doom!

I finally caved in and bought one of these. The actual name is "Gamemon Universal USB Convertor" and it has a model number of FT-8D91. The converter works great with DualShock 2 pads... but other PS2 pads seem to have a lag of less than half a second, and it's really irritating.

I have a NAKI PS1 arcade stick and it's unusable because of that. I bought it to play fighting games and the stick lags so badly I lost almost immediately. I also tried out the Guitar Hero guitar I got with GH2 - same problem.

Is anyone else having problems with this thing? I liked it, and it has two extra USB ports... but if it lags so badly, then there must be something wrong.

So how is this thing for gamecube? If it does that properly, it'd be worth the 10 bucks.

I'm trying to get a Gamecube pad to test it out at the moment.

Also, the drivers included with the adapter don't have XBox drivers for some reason. You have to download the 1.2 drivers from the manufacturer's site to get them; they also include Dance Pad support (I haven't tested that yet.)

Link plz? I don't know which version of the drivers I have thanks to the fact that they aren't listed in the program; but I might only have 1.0 or 1.1.

Funny thing is I had to download the drivers elsewhere anyways, as the CD that came with the converter (which I might add, was smudged and scratched before I even opened it up) had drivers for a completely different product. You get what you pay for, I guess.

That being said, I do believe this is a quality product. I think that the Gamecube portion works just dandy, but then again, I didn't notice the lag that Kitsune mentioned in his post. YMMV. What clinched it for me was the fact that you could use Force Feedback with all three pads.
