    Default Sega Trading Cards

This is a niggling little memory that I've had for ages and I desperately need to, well, scratch. Does anybody remember the Sega trading cards that were released around 1995-1996, definitely in the UK but maybe elsewhere too? I can't remember much about them except there were about 120 in the collection and they covered all manner of Sega games, mainly concentrating on Mega Drive titles, and not just Sonic ones. I know I didn't just dream these up, so any help on this one would be much appreciated.

There were some available in the "sega visions" magainze, but only the first 2 issues. I did pick up a few packs of sega cards but I believe they were only sonic 2, I still have a "holographic" card of the sonic 2 title screen from that set,

You didn't dream them up. I have a complete set. Only dealt with MD releases. they were called Sega Super Play and had game cards, gameplay cards and character cards. They were also released in France as Guardiana.net has some scans of them.

I'd also be interested, been AGES (no pun intended!) since I saw them last. Do you have any further details, such as year they were made, or packaging? Googling isn't very productive, unsurprisingly.

Yeah, they were released by Panini, and show up on eBay fairly regularly - I've got about an 80% complete set, and about 50-60 dupes. They also cover SMS & GG games, but (I think) only those with MD counterparts...

There's also the 'Sega Freaks' cards that were released in Japan and are much cooler, but they rarely show up on eBay

I have a fair bunch of spare Segafreak cards, I could sell them if anyone wants them. Some complete series and unopened packets.

Scans of the Sega Super Play Cards.

    Sega Cards 1-9
    Sega Cards 10-18
    Sega Cards 19-27
    Sega Cards 28-36
    Sega Cards 37-45
    Sega Cards 46-54
    Sega Cards 55-63
    Sega Cards 64-72
    Sega Cards 73-81
    Sega Cards 82-90
    Sega Cards 91-99
    Sega Cards 100-108
    Sega Cards 109-117
    Sega Cards 118-120

the picture size has shrunk slightly so if anyone wants clearing ones or the backs PM me and i'll email them.

I seem to remember them coming out in 1994-1995. I'm pretty sure i was collecting them at the same time as the Streetfighter II sticker album (anyone remember that?).

Anagrama right about the MS and GG as well. there's are tick boxes on the back of some cards shown which format it was released on.

Plus you could send away for a binder to display them in which i never did. seen a couple floating around on ebay.

Awesome work, mate- and yes, I remember the Street Fighter 2 sticker album too... might even have a few of them floating around in my shed, that is, if they haven't disintegrated by now. Ah, the good old days of random collectable crap... never really went away, did they?

I have some Sega trading cards as well, but they're not any of the ones mentioned in this thread. Back at E3 2000 or 2001 (I forget which), I managed to finagle my way into Sega's big party. During the party they handed out trading cards featuring various Sega luminaries such as Yu Suzuki and Yuji Naka.

Suzuki, Naka and the others featured on the cards were all at the party, so as you collected their cards from different Sega PR people you could go and get them autographed. If anyone is interested I can take some scans of them and post em'.
