View Full Version : Your 10 Favorite Consoles: Across the Board
Ascending Wordsmith
08-05-2002, 06:57 PM
I've recently found joy in the XBox but it's not my favorite console. There are other systems out there that each have something going for them that other consoles just don't have. Of all the consoles you've played, what are your top ten most favored? Go across the board and take into account game library, graphics, sound, console aesthetics, controllers, price, etc.
My 10 Favorite: (descending from top)
Super Nintendo Entertainment System
My second 16 bit heart-throb. Look at all the pretty colors! Excellent library too!
Dreamcast
It's just not fair. It had the games, the visuals, the sound, and the support... cruel world.
Saturn
Like the Dreamcast, it had everything going for it. It still ranks high to me. Great games and visuals.
Playstation (PSOne)
Sony's tool of vengeance, but the little version is so cute! With the right stuff, it can go anywhere I do.
Playstation 2
Not the greatest design, but it's ability to play it's older brother's library is a plus. It's got good games too.
Turbo Grafx-16/Duo
My first 16 bit heart-throb. Be it hucard or CD, there are plenty of great games to go around.
Nintendo Entertainment System
I can't stop playing this machine. I've tried and failed... miserably. It just seems to get better as years pass.
XBox
Most powerful (and heaviest) console ever made, to date. Unfathomable memory space, and soundtrack rip ability. Fluent and graceful.
Genesis
My third 16 bit heart-throb. I like sports, but there are many other cool titles too.
Sega Master System
Overshadowed by others, but I like this one anyway. Some of my favorite titles are on this one!
What are yours?

I'm gonna make this brief.
Super NES (I resented it at first, but it won me over later after the console wars ended)
Genesis (my favorite 16-bit console. I had to have one the moment I saw Forgotten Worlds in action... ooh, shiny!)
Neo-Geo (great arcade hardware, but too expensive for home users. Still actively supported today)
Game Boy Advance (the best handheld on the market by a mile... only the Neo-Geo Pocket could hope to compete)
Dreamcast (people would have loved it if they'd just given it a chance. My stepdad's grandkids always want to play it when they're over)
Playstation 2 (enhances all your favorite PSOne games... and plays some other crap too)
NES (I actually play this MORE than the above two systems!)
Saturn (I started out hating it, but then Capcom released that port of NightWarriors and the hatred quickly disappeared. Yes, I'm fickle)
Playstation (the original is still, well, pretty good. I didn't want to buy one, but broke down after seeing the hundreds of great games released for it)
2600 (it's primitive, but it served me well during my formative years, and I still play the games on emulators every now and then)

Atari 2600: You always remember your first.
Commodore 64: Most versatile 8-bit ever made: arcade, military simulation, role-playing, test/graphic adventures... it could do it all!
Playstation 2: WOW! These aren't games... they're interactive movies!

1. Sega Dreamcast - My favourite system ever. It impressed me on release date and has lost none of it's brilliance, charm and innovation. Best library of games, excellent controller, sexy design, it's Sega - need I go on?
2. Super NES - Second to the Dreamcast, and Nintendo's BEST console ever. My first console too is home to my favourite video game ever (Stunt Race FX), an excellent controller, marvellous sprite based graphics (only bettered by the Neo Geo) and just an excellent and diverse game library.
3. Microsoft Xbox - Microsoft showed us how a modern gaming console SHOULD be done. I think I'll be playing this for a good long time to come (largely due to the Sega goodness).
4. Nintendo 64 - I had a five year love affair with this vastly underrated and unfairly criticised console. Home to some of my favourite games and also my most used multiplayer console.
5. Sony PlayStation 2 - It's just amazing what it can do. Games (PSX AND PS2), music, DVD movies, online gaming. It's the embodiment for what many manufacturers tried to achieve in the early 90's with the multimedia revolution (CD-i, Amiga CD-32, 3DO etc).
6. Sega Saturn - Like the Dreamcast did in 1999, the Saturn blew me away in 1995 and I would've bought one 'back in the day' if it weren't for the high price tag. I mean, Sega Rally, Daytona, Virtua Fighter! In my own home! Brilliant!
7. Sega Game Gear - My first handheld gaming experience that would make my interest in handhelds greater than that of console gaming.
8. Atari Lynx - The first handheld I owned. It's still an impressive unit to this day.
9. Sega Master System - A technological marvel compared to it's competition, which still impresses me to this day with what developers were able to do graphically and audially.
10. Nintendo Entertainment System - Home to games which were/are just damned good fun, and despite my semi-apathetic attitude towards it, I get a real kick out of some of those games (e.g. Tennis!).

IN order of preference:
DREAMCAST: What else can be said about this great system, great all-around system, good, clean 3-D and 2-D perfection that equals if not exceeding the mighty Neo-Geo, a 2-D fighter fans wet dream!
SNES: Streetfighter 2 , the REAL final fantasy games part3 anyone? actraiser, super mario world, Super Metroid..the list goes on and on.
Turbographix-16: Ninja Spirits and Splatterhouse, oh yeah! and hey, so I liked keith courage in alpha zones, so what :P
Playstation: Metal Gear Solid,Castlevania and my RE games all make for a tasty treat indeed.
Saturn: another great 2-D machine, I even had my favorite RPG of all time panzer dragoon saga! I miss my Saturn.
Atari2600: my first gaming system, i was an asteroids addict.
Gamecube: I plan on buying the Zelda bundle and I will be in gamer heaven!
N.E.S. : Zelda and the original Metroid (still my fav metroid)
XBox: IM getting another one, my first one was stolen.
Playstation2: some great games, in all reallity a poorly designed system.
Genesis: Shadow dancer was my fav, Sonic, Phantasy Star 2, those were the days.

In order from first to last
Sega Genesis:
The first console I bought with my own money. Spent a summer saving enough money to get it. Sega does what Nintendon't.
NES:
Home to many of my all-time favorite games such as Tecmo Super Bowl and River City Ransom.
Dreamcast:
This system really got me back into gaming. NFL2K sold me. Not very many crappy games either.
Atari 2600:
Never owned one but grandma had one at her house for us kids to play with and it made some painful family reunions tolerable.
Neo Geo Pocket Color:
I bought this little pint sized giant on a whim and was very captivated by its fun charming graphics and games.
Virtual Boy:
Didn't get one of these until a few years ago and while I don't enjoy that many of its games I'm very intrigued by this system and what might have been.
SNES:
Home of my favorite Zelda game.
Gameboy Advance SP:
The handheld system I always wanted as a kid too bad I don't have kid hands anymore. Still take this system everywhere.
Sega Saturn :
Nights what a great game
TG-16:
Didn't get one untill earlier this year and I'm sorry I missed out on this gem all these years.

I only have 7 systems, but i'll comment on them:
1 - NES my first console and one of the best. so many great games i'm still finding out about today.
2 - SNES the first console i bought with my own money, great games, although the slowdown brings it down a notch from pure heaven.
3- DREAMCAST i got into the race a bit late with this one, but every game i own on this beast is pure heaven. it perfects 2d AND 3d games. the hardware's great and the software is phenomenal. i'm just addicted to the cast...my favorite sega system.
4- GENESIS meh, i don't have a good library for it, i just haven't given it the time it deserves...i need that 'i'm hooked' game for it...i though rocket knight was it...but alas.
5 - DUO ahhhh, yes i own like 5 games for it, and they're all golden. why this didn't pick up is beyond me. every game i've seen on this bad boy is like 'this is how it should be done'
6 - PS(one) - meh,OK games, but sorry ass hardware. didn't age well if you don't like rpg's. i only break it out for super puzzle fighter, and maybe metal slug x. does tho, host one of my favorite games ever, final fantasy tactics...and also street fighter alpha.
7 - GAMECUBE - meh, decent games...but if you've played the last 57 incarnations of zelda, mario, metriod, you aren't missing anything if your not buying into this system....ikaruga is the exception (available for DC)
XxMe2NiKxX
12-20-2004, 01:12 AM
10. Nintendo DS
Though there's currently only two games worth playing on the console, it features many prospecting features like wi-fi gameplay, potentially online capabilites, and many great titles planned for the console ensure a long life.
9. NES
A general lack of good games plagued the system, but the limited great games were gems, featuring amazing playability and lastability.
8. Sega CD
Limited selection and flimsiness keep this from scoring higher, but what's there is great. Gems like Shining Force CD and Sonic CD kept me coming back eternally.
7. Sega Master System
Again, limited titles did not help the system, but gems like Wonder boy III and Phantasy Star not only lasted a long time, but kept people playing this great but overlooked console.
6. SNES
A nice console with a lot less wasteware then its predecessor, was the hub of the RPG in the 16-bit era, though featured little else worth noting.
5. Nintendo Gamecube
Though not much in the way of variety, the modern versions of many amazing classics can be relived on this little, extremely underrated console.
4. Saturn
While one of the most limited mainstream consoles, it had variety and replayability in spades. Though the confusion caused by RAM carts and such certianly left much to be desired, great games like Shining the Holy Ark, Virtua Cop, and most certianly NiGHTS into dreams kept me coming back.
3. Sega GameGear
The Gameboy's greatest competitor, it featured astounding 8-bit graphics and some of the most replayable portable games of all time. The only flaw in the system's otherwise perfect track record is the ridiculous battery life.
2. Sega Dreamcast
The console with possibly the most successful launch of all time, it features so many underrated games, it's ridiculous how it ever faltered. This console features one of the best excellent:crap ratio of any console, adding to its already great track record.
1. Sega Genesis
Oh, come on? Who didn't see this coming? Look at my avatar, look at my posts... The Genesis features two(!) other almost completely independent consoles, and spawned hundreds of great games for anyone. It also changed the way we played games forever, bringing the first badass to gaming, as well as showing us how action games should be done with Gunstar Heroes. In my opinion, this game has the least crap, featuring many great titles for every category.

I dont really have 10 favorites but here I go...
NES - This is the best of everything...in my opinion.
Intellivision - For sports and RPGs, it couldnt be beat.
Neo Geo - With few exceptions, Neo Geo has set the
standard for fighters for about 15 years.
Playstation - The last generations NES.
Genesis - RPGs, fighters, driving, 32X, CD drive, Sega channel, Menacer...the Genesis was a real quality system with lots of originality to keep our imaginations stimulated.
2600 - I believe the 2600 is the most addictive system in history. "Once more...I can do better this time"
Turbo Express - Imagine where we could be if Nintendo didnt stunt the growth of the handheld industry for 15 years. Thank Sony for putting a flame up Nintendos ass or you would still be playing your GBA SP. (Not that I think the DS is any PRIZE)
Turbo Duo - I enjoyed TG-16 and the TG-CD so I chose the Duo just to sum it up.

2.PS2 - just so many great games and with the backwards compatibility its tough to beat.

6.Genesis-what a christimas that was...damn I feel old
7.Nintendo 8-bit-Old Reliable also great library of now classic games Zelda love baby!
8.gameboy advance- 2-D mmm good
9.Atari 2600- a summer full of asteroids waaaay back in the day

Following Le Geek's lead, I'll list my current favorite games on these systems. I usually say I don't have favorites, but I know that some systems are not my favorites (despite having some really good stuff on them)...I'll roll with that. So far I have my top five sorted out:
- Gen/Mega Drive (Shinobi III) For me, possibly edges out the SNES...
- SNES/SFC (Not certain) ...and then, I'm not sure. The SNES blows the Gen away in terms of color and the variety of games continues to surprise me. The Genesis has lots of great stuff, but the SNES seems to have a nearly endless catalog of games that are quite good.
- NES/FC + FDS (Castlevania III) The greatest older system around, no question. Huge selection of stuff here as well.
- N64 (Zelda, either domestic title) Definitely not a wimpy system; its special effects aren't the greatest but they darn sure get the job done. While its sound chip is just PCM MIDI there's still some impressive soundtracks here.
- PlayStation (Tenchu) This one's been growing on me. I couldn't imagine gaming without it, and neither can you ;)
A large number of other systems have captured my attention (Neo Geo AES and the Pocket Color to some degree, the Game Boy series, the XBox and GameCube to some extent, the Sega Master System, Saturn, and more...) but not enough to warrant my saying they're my favorites.

My favorite consoles/handhelds are as follows:
1. Super Nintendo
2. Nintendo
3. Playstation 2
4. Playstation
5. Xbox
6. GameCube
7. Game Boy Advance
8. Nintendo 64
9. Dreamcast
10. Saturn
I've yet to spend quality time with my Saturn and Dreamcast, so that's why they're so low on my list. And the N64 hasn't aged well (with the games' graphics being real blocky and blurry).

It's been a couple years and my tastes have changed, I guess. Here's my updated/current console Top 10:
10-7800
9-N64
8-TG16
7-Genesis
6-Intellivision
5-Coleco
4-SNES

2-2600

* I don't believe in listing "current" items in Top 10/50/100 lists.

No particular order:
Dreamcast (for all the wierd & wonderful stuff Sega did)
Xbox (think thats heavy? Try lifting a Sega Mega CD console!)
Original Game Boy (my first console!)
Game Boy Advance SP (for making consoles actually portable)
Amiga 1200 (not a console I know, but is still dear to me, along with Amiga 500 as well)
Virtual Boy (great games, even if it does induce headaches...)
Neo Geo Pocket Color (great playability)
Sega Mega Drive/Genesis (again, great playability)
Bandai SwanCrystal (quirky Japanese gaming, excellent)
Amiga 500 (machine that gave me Colonization, Civilization, Chaos Engine, SWOS, Flashback, Monkey Island, Beneath a Steel Sky, Stunt Car Racer, Indianapolis 500, Lemmings, Bump n Burn, Railroad Tycoon, Skidmarks, Cannon Fodder, etc, etc, etc. My first serious games machine!)
Ah.....getting all nostalgic now. Think I might dig some of these out over the weekend and give them a try again, good memories!

Amazing what can change in 2˝ years! My first 2 will never change, but let’s have a look at the others.
1. Commodore 64
2. Atari 2600
3. Colecovision
4. Amiga CD32
5. Genesis
6. Intellivision
7. Atari 5200
8. VIC-20
9. PSX
10. Odyssey 2
Since my Genesis buying spree in 2003, that system has really moved up in my eyes and is now number 3. Similarly, I never liked the Playstation until last year when I discovered all the great 2D games for it. It moves up to number 4. On the other hand, I had only just got a CD32 when I wrote that list so it was still exciting. Since then the system has lost some of its appeal for me so it moves all the way down to number 9.
Completely missing from this list is the Turbografx-16! I’m pretty sure I owned one at the time, but maybe I didn’t put it on the list because I had no way of playing CD games. While there are some good Hucard games, it was the CD games that won me over.
What other systems are missing? Laseractive (too few games), TI-99 (maybe I should have made a seperate list for computers?), Gamecube (the only modern console I own), handhelds (GBA, GP32, etc.), anything at all by Nintendo (I do love my Virtual Boy)... oh yeah, Dreamcast! In at number 7.
Unfortunately, that means 2 systems must be removed from the list (sorry Atari 5200 and Odyssey 2!). Behold, a new list for 2005!
1. Commodore 64
2. Atari 2600
3. Genesis
4. Playstation
5. Colecovision
6. Turbografx-16
7. Dreamcast

It's too tough to put my favorite systems in order. It's fairly easy to name my favorite ten without rankings.
2600, NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, Turbo-Grafx 16, Playstation, Neo Geo, Gameboy Advance, and Gamecube.
I'm more of a classical gamer, but I like all games new and old.

I can't name my top 10 but I will give you my top 5. There are many systems that were great but were simply out of my reach since they either didn't do that well in the U.S. and didn't produce the best games, or the hardware and games were too expensive. Such systems are: Neo Geo,
Saturn, Turbo Grafx-16/Duo. The Saturn in Japan had some amazing games that would easily have destroyed the Playstation in terms of games, but I am not able to experience such games since I am not a hardcore collector and am not willing to spend that much. Same goes with Turbo Grafx-16/Duo which had great Japanese games but weak U.S. games due to poor sales. The Neo Geo is simply too expensive. However, here are my top 5 that I am able to afford and are common enough in terms of great games:
Genesis
NES
Playstation
Dreamcast
Super Nintendo

Well I dont have 10 consoles that I like, but here are the ones I really had a very good time with:
NES
SNES
PS1
PS2
Never really was a fan of any other console.
There are only three systems which I consider godly and essential, and their order varies constantly (mostly depending on the one I'm playing at the moment LOL). Most of the time, however, my mind more or less settles on this order:
1. NES: My first console = nostalgia. Hundreds and hundreds of games, most of which (yes, I said most) are at least good, if not better. Easy to find anywhere at great prices. Incredible variety, including a plethora of platformers, which is by far my favorite genre. To this day, I still frequently discover wonderful new games, and it's the system I've played the most in my life. No matter what else I try, I always come back, because NES games are simply the most fun to play as far as I'm concerned. Too bad about the toaster's unreliability and the top loader's inferior audio-video quality (those lines :()... (Adventures of Lolo, Bubble Bobble, Double Dragon II, Gremlins 2, Mega Man 2, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Ninja Gaiden, Super C, Super Mario Bros., Zelda 2, *goes on for ten minutes*)
2. Neo Geo MVS: Nothing beats having my own arcade cabinet. But even if it were a regular console with a regular controller, it would still be one of the best simply because of the incredibly high level of quality of its dozens of games. The price can't hurt the quality, plus it makes everything even more collectible. Only downfall, if it's even one, is the lack of meaty, lenghty games. For quick bursts, though, it's pure bliss. Quite a lot to be found here aside from the ubiquitous fighting games, which I also happen to like very much anyway. (Baseball Stars 2, Last Blade 2, Mark of the Wolves, Metal Slug, Puzzle de Pon, Sengoku 3, Shock Troopers, Street Hoop, Strikers 1945 Plus, Super Dodge Ball, *insert almost any MVS game here*)
3. SNES: NES sequels galore bring the overall quality down a little, but most of them are awesome sequels anyway. Plus, it has its own unique library, as well as many well-done arcade ports. (Blackthorne, Cool Spot, Donkey Kong Country 2, Final Fantasy III, Mega Man X, Mortal Kombat II, NBA Jam T.E., Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Super Punch-Out!!, *goes on for five minutes*)
The following two are also nice companions, although I could easily do without them:
4. Dreamcast: Accomplished more in two years than the three current consoles combined in five years. Innovated so much, proved that 2D and 3D can coexist, remains the only CD-based system that I can stand. Could have been the best ever had it had the five (or more) years it deserved, as well as the support of more publishers. I still can't get over this to this day. Oh yeah, and it rekindled the video game passion in me after the N64 and PS1 killed it. (Grandia 2, Marvel VS. Capcom, Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness, Power Stone, Rayman 2, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Skies of Arcadia, Soul Calibur, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Super Magnetic Neo)
5. GBA: It's a portable SNES! Oh, and it has some great games of its own, too. The number of sub-par licensed drivel is annoying, though. (Activision Anthology, Double Dragon Advance, Klonoa: Empire of Dreams, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Metroid: Zero Mission, Ninja Five-O, WarioWare Inc.)
I don't care and/or know enough about the other systems to rank them. Hopefully this will change, but I still have a lot of catching up to do even with my top five, so that's my priority.

1) TG16, I feel in love with it the instant I played the demo unit yrs ago, and it took my yrs of waiting and some good dealing to get one. Highly sought after, and deeply loved.
2) Sega Saturn, I've probably spent most of my gaming hrs on this machine. The games are unique and just down right fun to play!
3) NES, my first console and definately loaded with some seriously awesome games.
4) Super NES, it was a wonderful RPG console, and my first 16Bit console as well.
5) Genesis does what Nintendon't LOL Seriously I bought this one back in the late 90's and over the past 10yrs have been gaining more and more affection for the console I didn't like back during the 16Bit wars.
6) DS, while it's still rather new I've been impressed so far.
7) GBA, other than the backwards compatability, I just simply love the GBA library. Plenty of Mario, plent of RPG's.
8) Dreamcast, I bought this one in 9/9/99, and while it hasn't thrilled me for the longest of time, I'm now starting to see just what an amazing lil console it is.
9) Neo Geo Pocket Color, while everyone was bringing their GBC's to college I had the NGPC. My only regret w/this system is I didn't sink more time and money into it back in the day, so that means I have to make up for lost time now.
10) PS2, backwards compatability so no need for two sony consoles taking up space, and quite a few good games for the system.

This is really tough. Anyway here it goes in no particular order........
Playstation - Great times with it. Spcefically all the RPGs and high profile releases from the time, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil etc...
Dreamcast - Lots of quick, easy to play arcade style games. Excelled in real innovative games stuff like Seaman and whole bunch of others. Great system that still gets a lotta love from me.
Super Nintendo - My favourite Nintendo system ever. Third parties perfected 2D gaming on this thing.
DS - Yeah it's still relitivley new, but already theres been some games that have already become all-time favourites of mine, like Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Feel the Magic.
Genesis - I loved all of the arcade ports on it, specifcally from launch until aroundf 92. Lots of other genres it did well in as well. Sports, shooters and many, many more.
Saturn - Lots of great 2D gaming to be found here. Underrated when it comes to 3D as well in my opinion.
Playstaion 2 - An extension of the original PlayStation. Got off to a slow start but come mid 2001 I began enjoying it more. It went through another tough time in 02- mid 04 but Metal Gear Solid 3 revived it for me.
PSP - I really LOVED Lumines and Ridge Racers.
NES - My first system I ever owned so very special memories for me here.
Sega CD - Sonic CD and Snatcher made me love it. FMV games aren't as bad as some people make them out to be, imo.

From what I have played & own:
Saturn -> Super Nintendo -> Nintendo64 -> Genesis -> Playstation -> Gamecube -> Nintendo -> Dreamcast -> Gamegear -> Gameboy Color
Now, before someone thinks my selection is wierd or crap, remember I only own 14 systems and I'm only grading them on what I own and games I own for them and played. I'm sure if I owned complete collections and played most of the titles available I would have a different line-up.

I only have 8 consoles, so I'll list them in order of preference.
PS2 - It may not have the best graphics but it's got some great games. I've grown up with Playstation, so I'm a bit of a fanboy but open to other consoles.
Xbox - Good games and good graphics.
3rd is a toss up between the SNES and Megadrive. I've had my Megadrive since 1992 and I've got over 80 games for it. But the SNES generally has better graphics and also has classics like Super Mario World, the controller allows for more functions. I'll say Megadrive because it's easier to collect complete games and I'm a Megadrive fanboy.
SNES - A great console but complete games tend to be expensive.
Master System - Like the Megadrive but more basic. I only collect boxed Megadrive and Master System games because it's easier to store them, and they look nice lined up on the shelf.
Mega CD - It may have lots of crap FMV games but there's something about it that I like.
Gamecube - It's ok but I'm not too enthusiastic about it.
N64 - I don't like early 3D graphics and I find the controller really uncomfortable.
Playstation - I don't collect Playstation games because, like the N64, I can't stand early 3D graphics. I remember thinking they were great back in the day but they haven't aged well.
I don't hate any of my consoles but I dislike the N64 and the Gamecube is far from my favourite console.

I don't collect any other systems but I would love to have another DC first off. Then I'd love to get a PS2, XBOX, N64, and last an NES, all of which I've never owned bu would love to acquire.

God, if I still owned and maintained segamastersystem.com, those fans would have me burned at the stake for choosing Nintendo over SMS. :2gunfire: Yikes!
But like I said, it changes all the time. I have so many memories with each of these systems. GOOD TIMES!

Top 10 in order of gameplay.
1. Commodore VIC 20
2. Sega Saturn
3. Sega Genesis
4. Atari 2600
5. TurboGrafx-16
6. Sega Dreamcast
7. Nintendo Gamecube
8. PS2
9. Astrocade
10. NES
The VIC 20 has the simple aesthetics of the 2600 with the added bonus of making your own games in, like, 30 minutes. Any of you who know me know I'm the VIC guy.
The Saturn had incredible variety for international releases. By far, the most interesting console from a collector's view point.
The rest of the list is just fun. I can't believe so many of you didn't include the Astrocade. 3DO? Channel F? Seriously? I guess we all have our own tastes. If the list continued:
11. Vectrex
12. Atari 7800
13. SNES
14. GBA

Don't know how I managed to completely blow by this one in the past...
First, we will start with the essence, or what I consider prime.
All hail the 68k
Genesis and Neo Geo. These two will forever have a home with me. No matter how much I expand or how deep I cut my collection down, they will remain. And for the most part, untouched. Just recently got my very own AES a few weeks ago and I'm really regretting holding out so long before diving into one. Sure, I've had access to MVS emulation for a while, but absolutely nothing compares to actual hardware. AES is the apex of cartridge based consoles. It's unique, scarce, beautiful and imposing in stature. It's a regal and proper lady, where as the slutty Genny is fast, cheap, easy to get into and readily available. Can't live without either, each for different reasons.
The rest is in constant flux, but this is what I feel like ATM:
NES
SNES
Dreamcast
Saturn
Wii (GC BC) Ironclad released for VC helped pull me back in...
PS2 (PS1 BC)
PC Engine/Turbo Duo
DS

It's hard to tell what my favorites are. Here they are, in no order:
Gamecube
NES
Saturn
Game Boy
Game Boy Color
Neo-Geo (I've played a lot of the games, despite never owning one)
Genesis
Nintendo 64
Game Boy Advance
SNES
Yeah, I honestly haven't played much outside of Nintendo systems. I've been expanding my tastes since 2008 though.

I'm going to put in some controversial choices in here. My list, in order of listing.
• Atari 2600 - My first real console, and my first video game love affair.
• Texas Instruments 99/4A - My first computer. I played a hell of a lot of games on it, and even wrote a few sucky ones myself.
• Atari 7800 - A better continuation of the Atari 2600 legacy than the 5200 was, and some really great games.
• Intellivision - Never had one growing up, but got one in the late '80s along with an INTV catalog that I made use of!
• Dreamcast - enough said.
• Lynx - My first portable, and I used the hell out of it.
• Jaguar - I've always loved this underdog console, plus it introduced me to 3D gaming.
• Commodore Amiga 1000 - A computer, but mainly used as a game machine. And so many good games came out for it.
• Sega CD - I'm skipping over the Genesis and going straight for the CD-ROM peripheral. I had a fascination with the Sega CD after I bought a Laseractive with a Sega module. And I don't have a problem with FMV games like so many people have.
• iPod Touch - Not a game console at all, but I still play a lot of games on it. I almost always have it on me whenever I leave the house.
