I made this thread a few months back on the classic gaming board but recently made a recount of all the games available for the DS now that the november madness has ended.
There are currently 94 US released DS games (not counting the metroid prime demo, the wal-mart variants, and the zelda trailer - those arent included in this list) - this list does include ping pals which is technically a game and it included the limited edition nintendogs: best friends edition found only in the teal and pink DS sets.
I currently own 90 of the 94 DS releases though tomorrow
Below is the complete US release list (partially in alphabetical order but many are not since I added to this list after the fact) I've broken it down into games I own and games I do not own, but its the complete list so other users can take the list and divide the games in the same way with what they own and do not own.

Wait, if you don't get the Harry Potter game, then there's no point in trying to complete a DS collection since you'll never have a complete collection without that one game.

Oh Iam not interested in having a TOTALLY complete collection I am perfectly ok on having a 99 percent completion, though yeah the only way I will get harry potter is if someone buys it for me.
I made this thread to see how other peoples DS collection was coming along.

I have 55 games for DS so far, but I have not tried to collect them as of yet. I eventually will do that. I am never going to collect the Wal Mart variants, and I'm still debating on whether or not to sell Zelda Twilight Princess demo.

Just counted yesterday, 31 so far, 32 when i buy lost in blue sometime this week.
Also, what is this zelda demo you are talking about? Is there anywhere online i can see a picture of it? How and where was it available?

Unless you are going for completion, absolutely avoid Need for Speed: Most Wanted. In my opinion, it beats Checkered Flag on the Jaguar for the worst looking, worst playing racing game ever.
Thank god I bought it in a buy-one, get-one with Sims 2, which has been a pretty fun game so far.

I would also want to know what this Zelda Demo thing is? I have seen people talk about it alot. Oh and really don't see the point in not buying Harry Potter if you already have almost all the other games. I think you would look more dumb buying Ping Pals and Sprung honestly, but It would just piss me off if that was the one game I was missing but nice collection anyway.

If I'm not mistaken, these were the pack-in games that just Wal*Mart had with the systems for a short period. Also, if I'm not mistaken Mario DS was the only one, although if there were more I wouldn't really know. I have seen Mario DS at a couple places in a paper Nintendogs Best Friends-style case.

i'm complete (including the metroid demo and the zelda trailer, and i also have the japanese electroplankton) except for bust-a-move, which i haven't been able to find yet... hopefully i'll spot it later this week when i pick up monopoly/boggle/yahtzee/battleship.

^ well bust a move, golden nugget casino, monster trucks, atv quad frenzy, and texas hold'em all are pretty hard to find right now, bust a move just came out and the others dont even exist at gamestop or ebgames - the best place to get DS games is at amazon Thats where I picked up monster trucks and such.
DocRamon
12-13-2005, 12:46 AM
i try not to order online... shipping+tax gets expensive, especially from amazon, and i like to make sure the case is in good condition before actually purchasing... ordering online has screwed me over in the quality before...
all games are pretty easy to find right now actually, as long as you don't restrict yourself to ebgames and gamestop... just cause they don't carry them doesn't mean a bunch of other places don't!
golden nugget, texas hold'em, and monster trucks i've seen at toys r us and kbtoys.
atv quad frenzy is actually all over the place... target, toys r us, kbtoys... circuit city even gave it away free with the purchase of a DS during black friday sales.
i'm sure if i hold out until later this week, or this coming weekend, bust-a-move will be all over the place too.

Well I had no problem finding bust a move but thos eother games I listed surprisingly werent at my local ebgames gamestop, circuit city , compusa, bestbuy, nor toysrus so I had to resort to buying online - my local stores suck for DS games lol yet they keep their psp games religiously updated.
My interest in PSP has kinda fizzled out though i only buy games that are unique and fun to play for the psp now - rpgs mainly and some other things like ghost in the shell which was only 20 bucks.
Also I did some research - animaniacs comes ou in mid january now - i've seen a lot of conflicting data on it but january seems to be the most universally accepted date for it - im glad it wasnt cancelled.

My brain works better in chronological order. I organize all my games in order of when I purchased them - I find the games I am looking for rather easily with that system and its easier to just put games away when I buy em than reorganizing every time ;p Just how my brain works Isuppose.
As for the list i typed here - it was partially alphabetical but also partially chronological - it was a mix of what i had in my ign page which was alphabetical and a mix of wha tI hadnt put in my ign page yet which was chronological of purchase times.
kinda strange i know ;p

DocRamon
12-18-2005, 01:07 AM
92 regular retail releases, yes...
as with any collection, the number changes when you start adding in demos and the zelda trailer, stuff like that... depends on what you're including in your collection.
xmagxus
12-18-2005, 09:10 AM
Thats why for the sake of ease I just decided for this particular thread to just count retail release of full games + exclusive pack-in games (but not variants) the only exclusive pack-in game though is nintendogs:best friends.
As you said the numbers change depending on what demos are counted by each collector etc, thats why i just tried to make a general list that could easily be applied to everyone without getting into the hardcore details like the nintendo hand and such ;p(which I do agree counts as part of the collection as does the zelda trailer and such, i just dont count it for this list (the retail release list)
DocRamon
12-18-2005, 11:13 AM
yeah... i agree...
for a "complete" collection, you should just be going for the retail releases. additional things (demos, zelda trailer, etc.) are just icing on the cake... fun little bonus things to make a collection even better!
although, i've always wondered if the metroid demo should be included, seeing as how it WAS made available at regular retail, very similar to the nintendogs best friends pack-in. and it's not just any old demo game, it actually carries a somewhat separate title ("first hunt").
Capybara554321

make a poll to see what everyone has to say. i say if nintendogs best friend edt counts then so does MP first hunt. but zelda trailer probably shouldent maybe should make a seperate list for the games in paper sleeves and such.

Look at it this way. Is Nintendogs: Best Friends a complete game? Answer yes. It just gives a different dog set than the other games. (If we wanna be anal the Pokemon blue/red along with the 3 nintendogs would all just be 1 game, since the characters in each of them are all obtainable with enough playing/linking.)
Prime Hunters is a demo. Its not a full game, it gives you a very restricted amount of playability, hell its been over a year and the game still isnt out yet. Its a demo of whats to come, all be it a packaged demo.

going by that logic... i'd have a hard time calling electroplankton a game... not really a game in the traditional sense, restricted playability, plays like a demo of the DS capabilities...

12-19-2005, 12:46 AM
Well the DS is weird like that.
I count ping pals as a game on the DS as far as being part of the 92 released retail games.
ping pals isnt really a game but its sold like it is one the reason I count nintendogs: best friends is even though it is only obtainable through a DS bundle that no longer exists it was still sold as a retail release game just exclusively through that bundle, while itis a full game it is basically nintendogs: dachshund for all practical purposes just different starting dogs.
Metroid prime hunters first hunt is a demo that was packaged in the same way nintendogs: best friends was but its not really a full release thats why I dont count it as a DS title personally.
I also dont count xbox LIVE arcade titles as part of the 360 release list either even though they are full games they are not sold in stores as a full game for that specific system be it through a bundle or as a standalone title - they are download only.
xmagxus
12-19-2005, 12:50 AM
Additional thought:
The metroid prime: first hunt demo is really a split decision I've found.
A lot of people count it as part of their collection, I personally dont but it really depends on who you ask.
If metroid prime: first hunt were a tech demo or something that had the gameplay it currently has i'd probably be inclined to include it in the list but since in 2006 we will be seeing a more complete version of the game its hard for me to list it as part of the release list.
I think when the full game comes out it would be kinda confusing to some people to list the collection as
"metroid prime: first hunt"
"Metroid prime hunters"
People that didnt give the DS any attention in the early days would think it was a metroid zero mission type deal and think they are two different games entirely. thats why ive found it easier just to label it as a demo even though as far as demos come it has a lot of depth to it compared to other demos.
DocRamon
12-19-2005, 01:11 AM
for the record... on their very own website, nintendo lists the metroid demo and the full release separately, as two different titles. and you know in the future, when we get a press release touting "over 200 games now available for the DS!" the folks at NOA will surely be including first hunt in their tally.
you know what won't be included? other demos and the zelda trailer.
just something to think about.
philosophyst
12-19-2005, 01:21 AM
Just wondering if anyone thinks any DS title is either hard-to-find now or has potential to be a "rare" title in the future? Are all DS titles still being produced?
Of course, this isn't considering the Zelda Trailer, Nintendogs Bark Mode or anything like that. I'm mainly just talking about regular releases.
Slipdeath
12-19-2005, 01:44 AM
In that case best friends was added as a "packed in game" . While first hunt was advertised as a "included playable demo". NOA's lists are all confusing anyways, they're missing a bunch of games and they sometimes have wrong info.
xmagxus
12-19-2005, 05:13 AM
phoenix wright has the potential to be rare -not a lot of retailers (outside of the internet) seemed to have gotten this game - at least around where I live.
Trauma center has the potential to be rare as well (atlus game)
The majesco games arent widely talked about either due to majescos current status-
golden nugget casino, monster trucks, etc all have the potential to be rare someday as well.
Currently the only rare game is nintendogs:best friends since itwa sonly obtainable through a now discontinued bundle.
DocRamon
12-20-2005, 01:17 AM
first of all... to continue my argument for adding the metroid demo to the official list... i think people are focusing too much on in-game content, packaging, distribution... video game collector kinda things. think about intent, from nintendo's perspective, a business perspective...
when regular games are released, they're intended to be obtained by consumers. when the best friends version of nintendogs was released, it was intended to be purchased by consumers who bought the bundle. when the metroid demo was released, it was intended to be purchased by consumers who bought a DS. when kiosk demos are released, they're not intended to get out into the public. when the zelda trailer was released, it was given to a select group of privileged individuals, not to the public.
granted, the secondary market has clouded this definition slightly, as items not intended for the public can easily be obtained on ebay or trading boards such as this one. but ultimately, i feel, the inclusion of a game on the "official" complete game list should be based on it's intentions. is it a game that was meant to be obtained by the public. any games sold at retail or given out by nintendo to the public, whether they be part of a bundle or sold separately, whether they be demos or full games, i think should be included. anything that was never intended to be readily obtained by consumers (most demos and the zelda trailer) should be considered extras, and not a part of the list. just my two cents...
next... rare games? there aren't many right now, but several will likely become rare at some point. depends on how you want to judge rarity. certain titles (monster trucks DS, texas hold'em poker DS, and others) were made in smaller numbers and will become harder to find based on that. other titles (trauma center, phoenix wright, etc.) were probably produced in greater numbers, but are actually good games with a strong fanbase. tough to say what will actually command a high dollar amount in the future though. but xmagxus is correct, the best friends version of nintendogs will likely be a tough one to get since it was only included with a bundle that was available for about a month before being discontinued.
and on that note... no, not all DS titles are still being produced. there's quite a few actually that are OOP now, mostly the earlier games like sprung, pac-pix, madden 05, tiger woods... and honestly, i don't think this has changed their value at all. ping pals isn't in production at the moment, but nobody is bustin down doors for a copy...
xmagxus
12-20-2005, 07:04 AM
I dont really view this as an argument at all like I said its pretty much split down the middle on which people consider it as part of the collection and which people dont.
I could go either way but since I can only choose one I felt that it shouldnt be part of the list.
I dont think its a big deal in keeping it off the list cause pretty much every DS collector likely got a DS at launch so its pretty much like a freebie space on a bingo board for our collections.
I'm fairly sure everyone that has a DS within this thread likely has the metroid prime:first hunt cart so it really just comes down to a matter of preference. even if it is or is not part of the official list a lot of us will put it in our additional notes.
Like in your case you say your list and then also include at the bottom something to the effect of having the twilight princess trailer and such (btw I kinda wish I had a copy of that myself but I will probably never go out of my way getting it ;p - major kudos to all of you ds collectors that have it though :)
xmagxus

additional comments unrelated to the "list"
wow pac-pix is discontinued? im not surprised by the older sports ones being discontinued (still available just no more being made I mean) As for phoenix wright and trauma center - I am not positive how current this is, but a couple months ago I heard the print numbrs for those two games were around 20-25 thousand.
Not low enough to ever be UBER rare but still they can be quite uncommon (unless there were more print runs)
To put that into perspective.
the first version of steel batallion (with original color scheme button design) had 10,000 made - DBZ final bout on ps one had 10,000 made as well (the non atari version) - wizardry on ps2 a relatively rare ps2 rpg had about 25 thousand copies printed - Unison on ps2 had 10,000 etc.
So 25,000 is not really rare but still if there were no more print runs on those games it will definetly become harder to get especially since they are actually good games and will likely be found as "hidden gems of the DS" in some magazine article in not too distant future magazine articles.
I'm kinda surprised castlevania DS isnt too rare based on the GBA castlevanias - perhaps they were prepared for the demand this time.
xmagxus
12-23-2005, 07:13 AM
Well I ended up buying madden 2005 for the DS this was the third least likely game Iwas ever going to buy for the DS - FIFA 06 coming in at 2nd least likely and harry potter being least likely for me to buy (as I am almost certainly never buying that game)
As some of you may or may not know toysrus has quite a nice clearance of games for 10 dollars.
Madden 2005 for the DS happened to be one of those games. While I hate football games as a semi focused DS collector I did pretty much promise myself to buy any of the sports games I lacked if they hit 10 dollars or less.
I suppose this means i'll prolly get fifa 06 and madden 06 for the DS as well before march 06 at this rate if they recieve similar clearances soon.
As for harry potter he can burn in **** lol

ya know, harry potter actually isn't a horrible game... us collectors are certainly buying a lot worse. and i would hope that if you wind up getting everything else, and all you lack is the harry potter titles (i'm pluralizing because you know we'll get one for each movie over the next few years... probably 3 total, assuming they don't make spinoff games like quidditch world cup), i hope you'll pick them up just to be complete.

I know I know lol I might eventually get it perhaps after kim possible, fifa, and madden 06 have dropped to 10 dollars and by then I will probably have all the games out EXCEPT for harry potter.
It's not really about the game for me in this instance - i dont know why but I just really have it out for that whole series no matter how popular it may be lol. Though I suppose if im sitting at a 99.99999 percent collection and I see it for 5-10 dollars it might be really hard to resist getting just for the sake of being complete. From what I can see right now (while I am still missing
need for speed most wanted, fifa 06, madden 06, kim possible, spongebob, and harry potter) I have minimal to no intention of getting harry potter ;p

Does anyone have a list like this for the PSP?
xmagxus
12-25-2005, 03:20 PM
^ I used to keep up with the psp a lot more than I currently do - I have a complete US PSP release up to november 7th or so and then I stopped keeping tabs on it.
I'll update the list later tonight when I have the time and see if I can make a nearly complete list for that system as well.
as of the first week of november there were 61 PSP games and I had like 31 at the time yet now I have around 45-50 psp games so I believe the PSP library is around 80ish games now since there are still a lot of sports games I dont have for that system.

I've caught up in collection a bit (helps having birthday and christmas 5 days apart)

I dont have
-Madden 06 (waiting to get it really cheap)
-Harry potter (most likely never unless its 5 dollars or less and the only ds game I dont own)
-Kim possible (prolly never or for a long time)
-Sponge bob (i'll pick it up at around 19.99)

not too much new in my collection...
i've used this hiatus to pick up some extra promo things... got a few more nintendogs plushes (just missing the chihuahua now!) and a complete set the nintendogs trading cards. i just won an ebay auction for the mario kart wrist strap and decals since i probably won't pick up the actual DS bundle.
mostly, i've been using the time to actually PLAY the games. go figure...

Has anyone had a hard time finding Snood 2? I've only seen one copy which I picked up at my local Best Buy for $10 bucks.
It got pretty bad reviews, and I haven't seen it anywhere other than Best Buy. The publisher is a small company. Possible potential future rarity?

it seems to have a smaller production run than something like mario kart... but i wouldn't say it's hard to find...
amazon has it shipping right now, and i've seen it at a ton of stores... walmart, target, toys r us, best buy, ebgames...
but because of production numbers, it could *possibly* be rare at some point... it's not one i'd call out as the most likely candidate though.

I edited the main post yesterday I found a few errors and counted mario kart twice, there are only 92 ds games currently.
As for snood - my bestbuy has literally 20+ copies of it so it isnt that rare in my area at least currently.
To be honest I have found that kim possible is somewhat rare in my area its not exactly a budget game in the same manner as like ford racing 3 or space invaders yet it seems to be harder to find than both of those games.
I'd say kim possible is probably one of the "rarest" new releases - thats not to say its rare, its just the "rarest" in my area of DS games that came out in the last 3 months.
I did pickup spongebob today though for 20 bucks at bestbuy, that puts me at 89/92 DS games
Only lacking:
-harry potter (lol waiting a long time for it)
-madden 06 (waiting till a big price drop as well)
-Kim possible (this will be my next target aside from games that come out next week - i'll prolly get kim possible if I can find it for 20 dollars new)

so did any of you guys order the pokepark ds?
i've been tempted to, but haven't yet. my main focus has always been on the games, and anything else that i acquire is just fun extras... it's just such good little collector's item though. not for the actual console (which is crap) but for the limited availability. i probably won't get it, but kudos to those who do.
oh... and what about that one guy's 6 crystal studded DS systems? anyone pick one of those up? if he had gotten them a month ago, i would have jumped on one right away, but with games starting up again now, $500 is just too much to drop on another DS when my main focus is the actual games.

^I agree games are my primary focus too above consoles (which is why I got the nintendogs DS as opposed to ever buying an electric blue one)
As for that walmart exclusive DS, I have too many doubts about it to get it. It's probably just a re-packaged / resealed japanese model. I honestly dont remember ever hearing anything about it from nintendo and that is why I have that suspicion.
Anyway as for the diamond DS - now that is something I wouldnt mind owning. I just cant rationalize paying that much for a portable system I already have more than one of.
I'll stick to waiting for my local stores to get copies of nicktoons unite in lol.

so did any of you guys order the pokepark ds?
I did :-P
I just want to say again, that the DS will be my first "complete" system collection, so I wasn't really prepared for what that entailed.
Apparently for me it involves getting every color system (preferably ones that are bundled with a game) and every game release thats available for sale in the US (plus an little collector extras) @_@
So, in addition to the 5 systems I already had (see pic in this thread) I will now have a sixth system (the pokepark one) :eek 2:
The way I see it is this...it may indeed just be the Japanese system in new packaging, or maybe not new packaging at all...and even though I'm not collection the Japanese systems, this one is being made available through a US retailer (and not an import store). So to me, it counts as a US released color/special system.
Now, back to the games...at the moment I am missing 8 games from a complete set. Thankfully it looks like January will be a pretty slow month for releases and I may be able to get caught up.
And finally...yes, I am crazy LOL

i'm on the exact same page as xmagxus...
not looking to get all the consoles, just all the games. like him, i bought a teal DS, but skipped on electric blue, pearl pink, and hot rod red. that's not to say that i won't ever pick up any additional colors... but pokepark certainly isn't gonna be it.
and seeing as how the pokepark ds REALLY seems to be the japanese one made available via walmart, i'm not so sure it's appropriate to call it "exclusive" anymore. walmart just became a well-known importer of the system, that's all. however, i do agree with drexel that it now counts as an american released console.
the DS is my first complete game collection as well, and i too started with the lofty goals of drexel... every game and every console... everything! but i gave up on the console idea after really looking into it.
perhaps i'm just too obsessive about it, but i'd really want every color. that would include the japanese colors. that would include the japanese mew pink and pepsi blue ones that dbiersdorf mentioned. sadly, it would also include some of the REALLY rare ones... the "hot summer" prizes given out in japan. the one-of-a-kind electroplankton one that belongs to Toshio Iwai. the 50 cent "G Unit" DS that was made especially for him... which, let's be honest, if you ever own that DS you're being hunted. it's too much.
and sure, you could say "all american retail releases" similar to what most of us are doing with games... but even that becomes too much. cause by your rules (made available by a US retailer that's not an import store) all those crystal DS systems are needed for a complete collection since they're carred by the nintendo world store.
i'm not trying to turn you away from it. if anything, seeing how massive of an undertaking it is will make it all the more impressive when you finish. i'm just explaining where i'm at with console colors. i learned early that it was going to be impossible to accomplish, whereas games are more readily available by nature. i'm hoping you understand that.
i still want one of the crystal ones though. that's just too much to spend right now.

Well there does have to be some extra boundries set in place for it to work ;)
I look at those crystal DS systems as more of an after market mod then a real release. Since they aren't manufactured that way, they don't really count IMO. To me, it would be the same as if I spray painted one of the my DS's green and sold it on ebay as a one of a kind version. It doesn't even have any special packaging...I believe they kept the original boxes (with the original colors plain to see). Now, of course that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to have one...but at the price they sell for I just can't justify it.
The second boundry I put into place was that I would try and get only one of each color (with the intent to try and get ones with pack-ins). This stopped me from having to buy 2 Electric Blue systems...one plain by itself and one with the Mario 64 pack in. Now, in the future I may end up buying colors over...say if they released a game packed in with a plain silver DS, but we'll cross that bridge when I get there ;)
So just to clarify the situation...I am crazy, but I'm not that crazy LOL
DocRamon

While I'm not going for a complete DS collection yet -- although it seems I'm well on my way from getting good deals and picking up what I really am interested in -- a boundary that I am setting for myself is only to collect games released to the market. So, while I really want to get a copy of Metroid Prime Demo, I never will feel the need to get the Zelda demo. And one copy is probably enough, as the Wal-Mart version of Super Mario Brothers and the four versions of Nintendogs will probably be four games (I have the Best Friends Nintendogs, that's enough for now) I get.
That's just me. I'm pretty much never a hardware guy -- I just go after games like crazy!

Got my Pokepark system today in the mail. The system is definitely the Japanese version...the code on the box ends in JPN and it has Japanese writing on the bottom of the box. But there are some small changes. They put a new (sticker) barcode over the existing one. Also, inside they include all the paperwork for an American system (all with codes that end with USA).
So at least its not exactly the same ;)

lots to respond to today...
my boundary is only getting games released to the market as well... i just picked up the zelda trailer cause it's cool. but i don't feel the need to find kiosk demos or anything like that. although, if someone happened to offer one to me for the right price i wouldn't turn it down. those are just little extras for me... not essential. same with the systems. whatever i can get is great, but i'm not going to lose sleep over missing out on them.
mario 64 or mario kart in a paper sleeve... those are just packaging variants. don't care about that. the 4 versions of nintendogs actually have (slightly) different content on the card, so i got'em all.
Drexel... that's pretty much what i was assuming the pokepark DS would be... japanese unit with american paperwork. makes me feel good that i'm not missing out on something too important. is it the exact same color as the electric blue?
capybara... yeah, i knew about the graphite DS at the nintendo world store. it's just the japanese units being sold at a higher price than the american ones. they've been selling these since about september-ish. back then they had gotten the pure white one too, but it hasn't been there for months now. for some reason they continue to get graphites though, and apparently they sell decently. still, pictures would be nice. can't ever get enough of the nintendo world store pics!
MP3 attachment (assuming you mean play-yan?) probably isn't coming out over here... but i said that about a lot of things... electroplankton... pokepark ds... and i'm always proven wrong. still, i wouldn't hold your breath.
big mutha truckers isn't out. some retailers DO list it as being available, but they tend to be shady places that list a lot of dates incorrectly, don't specialize in games, and most likely don't know what they're talking about. the game was pushed back several times, and eventually pushed back indefinitely. some places are even calling it canceled. hard to really tell what's going on with it... but it's not out for DS yet... at least not in the US. europe might have it.

It's very close to the Electric Blue...though for some reason it looks a little darker...could just be the lighting? I also forgot to mention that it has a US warning sticker on the bottom of the box too (just in case anyone was wondering ;)).
I'm actually happy that they at least made some changes to it...so I don't have to question myself over it...though even if it was exactly the same I guess I wouldn't have minded.
As far as Big Mutha Truckers goes, I thought it was suppose to come out in November but it just didn't happen. I haven't heard anything about it...its obviously been delayed, but I've seen no news on how long or if it's been cancelled. Personally I can't imagine it being very good so I say keep it gone, but we'll see.

anyway, when i lost the WW one, it caught me off guard and i scrambled to get meteos... barely got the bid in on time, and it's about $10 more than i wanted to pay... but at least i walked away with one of them.
really wasn't trying to be rude... i thought it was funny.

Do any of you guys know where I can get a full set of the colored stylus holders....like this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/PINK-NNTENDO-DS-NDS-STYLUS-PEN-NEW-SEALED_W0QQitemZ8254649014QQcategoryZ49230QQrdZ1QQ cmdZViewItem
I guess I could order them individually from this guy, but I'd like to save on the shipping charges (his combined shipping kinda sucks).
Anyone have a better route?

yeah thats correct. I'm annoyed that f inding nemo appeared out of nowhere pretty much i was hoping it would be delayed but it looks like it wont be now. So many good games coming out this month. I'm currently 3 games from a complete collection but soon i'll be 6 from a complete collection since i'm more concerned about getting the ps 2rpgs this month and street fighter for psp (so i can get the special controller attachment for my psp)

Games for this week
Age of Empires: The Age of Kings
xmagxus

101 DS games available in the US now counting age of empires as the most recent release.
Other recent releases are:
The rub rabbits
Finding nemo
Resident evil DS
Tamagotchi
I'm sitting at 99 out of 101 US DS releases now (I picked up finding nemo, rub rabbits, and age of empires today)
The only two I lack are the same ones i have lacked for awhile due to lack of interest - Madden 06 and Harry Potter.

On a seperate note, I ordered a few more games and am now at 99 (including imports and metroid demo). Hopefully I can find some more good deals and get caught up soon.

You guys are insane! :eek 2:
I have 5 DS games and I only have a list of 15 that I could possibly ever want(that are already out) and honestly most of those I know I won't be getting, they just arn't good enough.
I'm hoping that their are some of you here that collect only the good games. I'll feel all alone if their isn't.

If you want a complete collection, you gotta collect the crap.
I too only buy the good games for the system (or ones I have interest in, Sprung isn't exactly considered good) , I'm at about 18 games so far and I need to get around 7 more.

I'd hardly say that I'm super rich.
Most of my collection has been found through sales and just good hunting. I definitely do not pay retail price for every game released (in fact I only do for the titles I really really want).
Would you say the same thing about any of complete system collectors out there (NES, Genesis, etc). By your reasoning even anyone who collects anything would have to be super rich...I saw a guy who collects every piece of Planters memorabilia out there...he must be loaded.

I see the positive side of collecting, especially if you're into it, but if the estimated value of a DS collecting is $2,000+...
You'd have to spend at least half of that. I don't have that kind of money, and you'd have to be pretty well off to afford it. Considering it is what it is - a collection of games.
I'm not knocking it. I just personally think you have to be a fanatical person to spend all that money.

Once again I'll have to disagree. Say I've spent $1000 on DS games...thats over a span of about 15 months (since the DS was released). So that averages to around $66 a month...I'd hardly call that unreasonable for any person with a job...heck, even if we bumped it to $100 a month, I'd still say that almost anyone here could afford it.
As for me (and other DS collectors) being fanatical people...you better get used to that opinion if your going to be hanging around here much longer. I know people on this site who spend way more a month on games than I do, striving to have complete library collections of every system ever made...with some of the games they desire being $100+ to $1000+ a piece. Personally for eveything other than the DS, I collect only games I enjoy...I just love the DS system so much, that I think it would be a nice collection to go for. But I'm not going to go on and on about collecting vs gaming...use the search feature and you will see that the discussion has been beaten to death.
But once again...collecting does not happen overnight...you don't just wake up and say "I think I'm going to drop $2000 and get all the games for ____ system"...most people, including myself, collect slowly waiting for deals to arise. If we didn't, then we wouldn't be able to afford to do so at all...in other words, you would indeed have to be rich. But as I said, most people here are not, they just know how to pace themselves.

If the DS becomes anything like the Gameboy then games releases will become more and more frequent, and I can see people running into a rough spot. But I think it's cool, good luck. I'm personally trying to collect every single NGPC game. I have 5 so far. LOL I hope I can make it to the end.

Nick is hardcore for DS, so a slightly higher amount of money on DS love is all good. Stop the hate. There are other people who spend gobs more dough than he does.
We're up to 51. Have pretty much all the worthwhile games, and fill the rest out with junk. Keep in mind, I am also in Nick's boat - anything junky I paid $15 for, tops. TRU closing, KMart closing, TRU sales, etc probably accomodated 25% of the games I have.
I admit, I really like the system, so I paid full price for a lot of it. Sure, I could have paid $5 for Pac Pix at the closing TRU, but the game is so damn awesome it was worth it for $30.

lost my internet connection at home, so i've been away for a bit... right now i'm stealing online time from a friend... but i wish i could have been around more for all this...
first of all, i think it's hard to really peg the 'rarest' DS games right now, because i've found that it's typically a regional thing. nearly all games are easy to find if you know where to look for them, with exception of phoenix wright and nintendogs best friends. everything else might take some hunting, but i guarantee you could find it.
as for being "super-rich" or whatever. i DO pay full price for my games, usually because i'm not patient enough to wait for price drops and i'm too lazy to track down deals. but i'm certainly not rich by any means. i spend money on bills, food, gas, and games. that's really it.
but people act like it takes SO much income to collect. it really does not. i have a good job. my wife has a good job. being in a 2-income household helps. but really, the money required to collect, even "hardcore" collect and pay full price... it's not unreasonable.
as for my collection... i'm still caught up. i've got all the US released games (am i still the only one here?) plus the iffy ones like the metroid demo and the zelda trailer. i've got a silver and a teal system. a friend is visiting from japan in a couple weeks, so he's picking up an enamel lite for me. i've got a ton of styluses and stylus holders, wriststraps, weird promo things... still not super-rich though.

I'm still staying around 4-5 games needed for a complete collection.
But there has been a big change in my system collection. Originally I assumed that getting all the bundles wouldn't be that big of a deal...especially if they kept it like the Gamecube or GBA (where theres usually only so many a year, and most of them are real new bundles...not just a regular system with a sticker on the case). Unfortunately with DS we have seen three Electric Blue Sticker Bundles recently...and thats all in the month of March x_x So now, my rules have been edited to include collection only special system bundles (Nintendogs Teal/Pink, Mario Kart Red, etc.).
I think in the end it will still be a nice collection...and I really wouldn't have had a problem if they weren't releasing 2-3 bundles a month. Oh well...it'll save money to buy more games ;)

well it's been a while since we compared lists, but i'm guessing you missed big mutha truckers finally getting released. i nearly did.
i'm telling ya, rogue games, man... hate them. companies releasing games totally under the radar, no release date ever shown, and few stores actually carry them. it's the strangest thing, and makes it really hard to stay complete. how can you buy a game when you can't find it? sucks.
while i'm on the topic... there's 2 other rogue games for DS that have been "released" already, but i use that word with hesitation until i have the game for myself or see one of us with it.

he says they only send you the actual game, whether it be disc, UMD, DS card, GBA cart, whatever. they also let you know that the "manual" (just what button does what) is posted on their site.
for select games, you have the option to buy. if you want to buy while you already have the game, they'll send you a beaten up box/manual/etc. afterwards. you can also just buy the game instead of rent, and you'll get it all together. but regardless, neither of these games allow that purchase option so even if you conveniently "lose" the game and can not return it, you won't get the rest of the package.
so yeah... collectors like us really need to just find them. i still haven't gotten my blades of thunder yet... but again, we'll know about it soon. texas hold'em poker pack... i'm just baffled.

i assume you're talking to me?
got BMT without any problems. had to order it online though, still can't find an actual store that carries the game.
BoT2 has STILL not arrived. i'm getting suspicious. the seller seems kinda shady. and although his feedback rating is good, the few negatives are for items that never arrived. hmm. i mean, i know i picked the slowest delivery method, but this is starting to get ridiculous. i'm gonna give it until wednesday (2 whole weeks after he claims to have shipped the game) before i start throwing a fit. although, this could be good evidence to support the game not really existing. we'll see...

Picked up 6 more games recently, including BMT (thanks Doc).
I only need 4 more games (not including the few that come out in a couple days):
Age of Empires
Ice Age 2
Tamagotchi
Worms
I also picked up the Zelda Trailer finally...paid more than I wanted to, but it's good to get that out of the way.

Well one person on eBay says they have eight copies in stock, I can't see someone lying about that? But who knows.
What I want to know is why the publisher (Summitsoft Corp) doesn't have any refrence to their video games on their website. That makes it all that much harder to find the game.

oh... almost forgot... i also managed to get a copy of brain age that was given out at GDC with the special sticker, note inside, t-shirt, etc. it was mailed today, so it should be here by the end of the week. details on that when i get it too. supposedly it's marked demo with the sticker on the back, but it's the full version of the game. we'll see...

i received my GDC copy of brain age today...
nothing especially cool and collectory to say about it, other than what you see on ebay pics. there's a gold seal sticker on the case that says it's from GDC, a note inside from iwata that thanks me for supporting the game, and a white sticker on the back of the card that says it's a demo gpk only, not for resale, property of nintendo... though it's not a demo version, just used for demo purposes.
pretty cool.
though for completists out there like myself, it doesn't come with a registration code or any advertising paperwork, just the note, the manual, and the precautions booklet.

no, i won't buy a retail copy. i have a friend who's planning on getting the game, and he doesn't collect. he's gonna hook me up with whatever paperwork i'm missing, so my copy will be a blend of the GDC and the retail... everything together in one package.

Hello everyone ..
I've fallen behind dramatically these past few months with keeping track of and collecting DS games. But I'm slowly redeeming myself ..
I currently have:
40 US Games (expecting 8 in the post)
1 Eur Game
5 Jap Games
And an array of Demo carts and other little things..
Anyway, I just wanted to confirm the numbers I have on releases at the moment. I make it:
114 US Releases
89 European Releases
183 Japanese Releases
Also, I wanted to make a little list of the current European exclusives for those who are interested ..
Cocoto Kart Racer, only avaliable in France, Germany, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands. No UK release. Came in two variants, a standard version and a version which came in a big ol' blister pack which included a Cocoto DS Pouch. Publiched by Big Ben Interactive,
Note; This game was recently released as "Minna de Wai Wai Kokoto Kart" by Kemco in Japan.
James Pond Code Name Robocod Published by PlayIt.
Totuuf Mission Nadia Published by Atari.
Billiard Action Published by ???. Saw this game in an independent games store once, still know very little about it.
Anyway, hope thats helpful for some ..
Joe. :)

yep, picked up franklin and poker at frys today. had about 5 copies of poker and bot2, and a TON of franklins. i also came very close to picking up some of the import games... but just couldn't bring myself to do it.
but with poker and franklin found now, all games are accounted for... and that's always good news.
EDIT: not sure if anyone saw this, but nintendo sent out free early copies of brain age to 'sages' on their message board and a few select 'nsiders' similar to the nintendogs promotion they did a few months back. people are apparently receiving retail copies of the game and a letter from nintendo about the game. not much really, but i wouldn't mind getting a letter.

Unfortunately there are no Fry's on the east coast so I ordered a copy of Franklin off of ebay for $22 shipped. What is the exact name of that poker game? I'll have to keep an eye out for it if it pops up in stores.

drexel... why is your collection slowing down? that's disappointing to hear, but i'm sure you'll have no problem bouncing back.
the exact name of the poker game is "Texas Hold'em Poker Pack" and it's by Summitsoft Entertainment. it IS different than "Texas Hold'em Poker DS" by Majesco. And yes, I am 100% sure that it is an American game... i am looking at the product code right now... NTR-ATXE-USA. it has an ESRB rating. it is most definitely not european. if i get around to taking and posting more collection pics this weekend, i'll take a few extra of poker.

i actually didn't use the snackbar covers, i made my own. different things about the snackbar ones annoyed me. for example, the spines on all three (zelda, best friends, metroid). the metroid and zelda cards came in sleeves with a spine design (albeit simple) already laid out. why change it? and best friends... it needs to look exactly like the other nintendogs spines to really 'fit in' plus the snackbar one actually isn't large enough to cover the entire front.
yeah... i'm really picky about it. :)

played franklin, beat it in a couple hours...
for a game made for a 3 year old, it's actually pretty good. i was surprised by some of the level design and how well it used the DS features (touch screen, microphone)... i would actually recommend the game... for it's age group.
anyone outside of toddler range has no real reason to pick this up unless it's for a collection.
if the same principles could now be applied to a game that's both a bit longer and more difficult, it would be awesome.

I've been without a computer for a little while till a day or two ago. In the process of building a new high end PC, currently only on the net cause I got a new laptop while waiting for the pc parts to come in.
Anyway I finally took the long drive to fry's electronics. Man they have a lot. I managed to pick up franklin the turtle at toysrus but no one had the poker pack till i got to fry's They literally had over a thousand DS games total there and only one copy of the poker pack (looked through every game)
I also picked up some of the other games I was missing. Currently I only lack madden 2006, and harry potter (my two most hated DS games)
One thing I liked about fry's was that I dont really import games but they had copies of breath of fire 3 and tales of eternia for the PSP (euro versions that work on us PSP's in english) I wouldnt have bought them but they will never be released int he US due to sony's stupid policy for the US about not releasing straight ports.
Fry's has some pretty good prices though,I ended up getting fifa 06 just cause it was on sale from 59.99 for 39.99. Pretty good store I hope they build one closer to me though for all future hard to find games.

i really am close to picking up some of the import games from fry's. i don't normally like to import stuff, but they're making it so easy to just go in and get them... wouldn't mind jump superstars or bleach.
and as drexel said, poker pack is now at best buy. they carry it in store too, you don't have to order online.
also, drexel... why are you after the GDC copy if you got the regular one? just for collection? it really is the exact same game with a sticker on the case, a sticker on the back of the card, and a note inside. and i've heard that the white sticker on the card also came on the ones that Nsiders got from the nintendo message board. anyway, good luck with that hunt.

summitsoft might have another game releasing this week... as with their others, it may or may not actually be out. i'll keep people updated.
as for the import games at fry's... they're $50 for most, $40 for some of the budget titles. not really any cheaper than ordering online.

well it WAS supposed to be Mini RC Rally... GameFly had it coming out this week, and since they were the first to get Poker Pack and Blades of Thunder... just needed to be sure, ya know? but now they're showing an end of May release for it, so i think we're safe.

I got the glass case from a local company that sells store displays...it cost around $200.
The A Boy and His Blob is just the case. I got the final boxart that was made for the game from a guy who used to work at Majesco. I was really close to snagging a proto of this and Black and White, but in the end he wouldn't sell them :(

Wow, nice Drexel. :)
So was A Boy and His Blob cancelled? I guess that I haven't heard anything about it since it was announced. :/
Also, has anyone picked up Lost Magic yet? Looks kinda cool, and I'd probably dig the online stuff.

Seeing Drex's and DocRamon's pics make me want to get them all.... I think however if I do i'll be disowned. I'm at just under 50% of the library and if I do much more at a too noticable pace I might not have them when I come home one day.

LOL
I'm in the same boat. I've crept my way up to 1 or 2 DS games a week, but I'd find my shit on the curb if I went for the whole thing at once. :embarrassed:

very nice, drex...
you've definitely got some stuff i'd like to get my grubby little paws on... the kiosk, some demos (i thought you had more?), some of those styluses... it's all very impressive, and that should mean a lot coming from me.
LOL LOL
on an unrelated note, i recently won a Nintendo DS neon retailer window sign... it should be arriving sometime this week. the way i figure it, if i'm going to have such a large and neatly organized collection, i should label it somehow.

Nice find on the DS sign...I hope your arrives safely. I bought one from my good friend Dangerboy, and unfortunately the postal employees must have been playing football with it, cause it was broken on delivery :(
And thanks to everyone else for the nice comments :D

Basically it comes down to me knowing (for the most part) which games I'm going to enjoy...so those are the ones I'm going to open. The rest of them are for me to enjoy in a different way...to have as part of a collection, instead of being there to play. I'd rather keep the stuff I won't like playing in the best possible condition.

i think it's just top gun... *possibly* miss spider, but i think all of those are later in may...
and the rumble pak deal has actually been going on for about a week now. it doesn't come packaged with the game. the rumble pak is packaged separately with 2 stickers on it. sticker 1 names the games it works with. sticker 2 says that the you can get the product free with metroid prime hunters. go check it out at frys, that's where i saw it. they had a whole endcap devoted to the game, the rumble pak, and DS systems, with a little sign up telling people about the deal.

I was getting a little annoyed with the regular styli so I decided to find a cheaper better one and here is what I came up with
Step 1 Find a Bic type pen and an extra stili
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y241/no_sleepie/DS/stp1.jpg
Step 2 Remove top parts of pen like so
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y241/no_sleepie/DS/stp2.jpg
Step 3 Remove ink tube
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y241/no_sleepie/DS/stp3.jpg
Step 4 Insert stili into the place where the tube once was
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y241/no_sleepie/DS/stp4.jpg
Step 5 Insert into the pen tube
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y241/no_sleepie/DS/stp5.jpg
And there you have it a longer stili that anybody can make. I also later added one of those rubber grip things that was on another pen. There is no glue used to make this unless you wanted to make it stronger but mine seems to work fine. And before anyone says anything I belive in japan they have a item that does the same thing but this is freeish and you dont need to import. And with that what do you think?

I think it's great, Capy. I'm going to go try it now. And anyone with pictures of their DS collections, post 'em!
Edit: Well, I tried it. It didn't work as well as you said...at first. But then I whipped out the Krazy Glue. Best. Stylus. Ever.
