We did it for PS2 and Xbox and we'll have a running list going for as long as we're alive, so here's the GameCube version. These threads should be especially handy to people who got their systems recently and want to start out with the "A List" of games to pick from.

Rogmeister

Well, I'd probably add Madden. I don't have 2003 yet (not sure if I will get it since I just got NFL 2K3) but I still have the 2002 edition. I might also add Medal of Honor: Frontline.

Add Rouge Leader, Smash Bros., Mario Sunshine(for mario type games this is not that great, compared to the rest of the titles it has to be in the top 10%)

I like Animal Crossing but it really should have a "M" rating.

I'll second Rogue Leader. The Hoth level was a dream come true for me.

==>I'll third Rogue Leader. I just love bringing down AT-ATs and the Tie Bombers and AT-STs. This game is a Star Wars fan's dream come true. I especially like how Factor Five went the extra mile to include so much SW (original trilogy) lore into the game, like finding R2-D2 if you explode the Sandcrawler on Tattoine, or hearing Han Solo cry out "woohoo" on the Death Star trench level.

Mario Sunshine rocks as well. Tons of great platforming! Live with the camera faults and somewhat-high difficulty.

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee is the greatest multiplayer on the gamecube at the moment. And if anyone wants to argue, they'll find a hammer in their head.

Infogrames just released an Xbox version with a new character, two two arenas, CPU opponents in all modes, and downloadable content via Xbox Live. It RAWKS.

Simpsons Road Rage, i know, it has some flaws, but i love playing all those characters, although i'm not a huge simpsons fan (like futurama more) and the overall gameplay is really good

Virtua Striker 3 Ver 2000, highly underrated soccer game, get used to the controlls and u'll love it, i've seen reviews from 4.5/10 to 8.5/10 of this game all bad reviews mainly because of the controlls :)

This is kind of a tick-tack thing, but Pahntasy Star Online is no longer an "exclusive" with the Xbox version having been released. So it should drop its *.

Also, you could add any of the following games...

--All Star Baseball 2004 (btw, this is the last AS baseball title, since Acclaim has dropped the Cube)
--Mega Man Network Transmission
--Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Mario Kart DD* (well duh heh!) - ignore IGN/Gamespot, they wouldn't know a good game if it came up to them, painted their face yellow, wiggled their arse in front of them and said "Addictive games are here again" :D

Game Boy Player * (same price as a game, comes with a disc...it counts)

Legend of Zelda, The: Wind Waker *
Legend of Zelda, The: Collector's Edition * (rare, but incredible)
Madden NFL 2003
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! * Little typo there...
Mario Party 4 *
Metroid Prime *
NBA Street 2 (The second one is a better game, at least to me.)
Need for Speed: Underground (best in the series, and I'e only played the demo!)
Phantasy Star Online
Pikmin *
PN03 *
Resident Evil *
Resident Evil Zero *
Smuggler's Run 2
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle *
Sonic Mega Collection * (how can you beat this for nostalgia?)
Soul Calibur II
Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader *
Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike * (better than the first)
StarFox Adventures *
Super Mario Sunshine *
Super Monkey Ball *
Super Monkey Ball 2 *
Super Smash Bros. Melee *
Timesplitters 2
Tony Hawk Underground (update this, please; THUG is the best so far)
Viewtiful Joe *
Wave Race: Blue Storm *

After finally playing it tonight, I want to add Lost Kingdoms to this list. It's actually a fun RPG with Zelda-esque music. Usually, I hate RPGs, but the card battles keep it from getting boring. I'm guessing that people that mention Naruto are fans of the anime or manga series, rather than picking the game on its own merits. To put it another way, I dont know if you would really like the game as much if you didnt already know what Naruto was to being with - get familiar with the world of Naruto via the anime or manga before you buy such a game - just my opinion.

Very underrated series. More people need to check it out.

I will second this title. I loved it on the PC, and I love it even more on the Cube. I wonder why it is that really great games like this slip through the cracks...perhaps because most people never see it. After hitting half a dozen local stores I finally gave up and online ordered it through Walmart. Glad I did!

I'd like to see MVP Baseball 2004 added to the list. It is, to me, one of the best baseball games ever. You must be joking.

Either that or I am REALLY missing something! This is one of the most boring games I've played in a long time. Such limited moves, repetitive enemies, every level looks almost the same (reminds me of the battles in the first Phantasy Star... halway after endless hallway, only the battles in this game happen to suck). Please explain what makes this game great. I'm a very forgiving gamer but I can't imagine how this one gets on someone's top "anything" list.

It's a sandbox game. Use your abilities and do better each time. Best summed up by this review I think:

http://www.ntsc-uk.com/review.php?platform=ngc&game=PN03

I guess it explains why it sadly sold rather low in the US (indeed I'd almost call it some sort of medium rarity on that statistic).

well
I can't really explain it but let me try:
First time I played it I was REALLY pissed cause you couldn't move while shooting. Also those outside missions at the beginning where frustrating me a lot(brown-color style etc).So I kicked the game back into my shelve where it laid bout 2 months untouched. On a rainy sunday I deceided to give it another try but this time in the perfect gaming-atmosphere(aka dark room, big screen and "volume" till all hell breaks loose) and suddenly(I really don't know why) Vanessa got me by the balls.I lost myself in awesome shootouts with giant robots(with BEAUTIFUL names);I felt the beat of the horribly loud grooves(although I normaly really hate this "music") in my stomach and controlled Vanessa's ass through hordes of enemies and shitloads of laserfires....
Dude, I really LOVE this game.
and i know that I'm NOT the only one

either you love it or you hate it (I guess)
there is just no "in between"

Besides the fact that its been made into a complete pile of crap. I would'nt even call it a Nintendo game. The voice overs are really bad. The gameplay hasent changed at all, and the graphics upgrade from the N64 is minimal at best. They really should have taken more time on it.

:( I had high hopes for that game too. Actually, not too high. After Adventures and seeing the foot levels at E3, I lowered my hopes significantly.

Guess I can wait for it to drop to $20. Players Choice or not.

Sad, and SF64 was such an awesome game for its time. I really thought they'd do better this time.

I love Assault. On Rail stages are awesome, the foot stages are basically jet force gemini with star fox characters, and the wing riding stages are definitely cool shit.

At least give it a rent. If you liked all range mode in 64 (and it was my favorite part), then you'll probably enjoy Assault, since that's almost every level.

Plus the stages are LONG. Multiplayer is also much better then 64's, if you're into that.

Nevertheless, people who didn't like all range mode, and don't play multiplayer, probably won't enjoy this game much. Me, I love the music remixes, the vocie acting, though crummy, is still on par with star fox (remember "Do a Barrel Roll!" or "Here comes a big one!"?). I guess people just expected too much or something, but it is worth a rent, at least.

Jasoco
02-20-2005, 01:56 PM
Actually, I'm not a fan of "All Range" mode. I like the good old straight down the corridor (With a few braches and decision making spots) levels. Though, I do like all range, it's not my favorite. (I loved the ID4 reference in 64. But I hated that level where you had to destroy the station, i.e. the alternative to fighting Star Wolf a second time.)

I liked Jet Force back in the day. So maybe I'd like this.

I like long stages if there's enough check points.

I never liked multiplayer in any game other than GoldenEye or Perfect Dark. I absolutely HATED Star Fox's multiplayer.

I keep forgetting to pick up Resident Evil 4...next time I'm out for sure!

MVP Baseball 2004 quickly became my favorite baseball game eveer. I got the XBox version eventuallyl...and chose the XBox version for the new 2005 edition because I don't like those huge memory cards you need for sports games. I don't want to be in my 5th month of my season to find my save has become corrupted.

Animal Crossing I played for months and loved it. I'm disappointed they've not come up with a sequel for it. I sold mine awhile back so maybe I should pick up another copy. They're cheap now, of course.

Beach Spikers is another favorite and I enjoy most of the Mario games, whether they be adventure games or sports titles such as Mario Golf. I still haven't played Mario Power Tennis yet. I need to pull that out this weekend if I can stop playing my new baseball game long enough...

GoGoHypergrind was actually not that bad. I really enjoyed playing through it though it only took me a hour or two.

I just got a GC about a month ago, primarily for the RE Games... and recently purchased Eternal Darkness for it, and the game I've ended up playing the most is... ... ... ... Animal Crossing... which has cartoony graphics, and really no story. It's really strange because I generally only like games with explosions, shoot, killing, or any combination of the three. It has zero learning curve and very forgiving... I got pissed off after an hour of ED because I hadn't saved at a good spot... and I kept getting killed when I would reload the game... So I gave it the middle finger and bought Animal Crossing, which I balance out with stealing candy from children and kicking cute little kittens.

I'm sure I've said it before, but if you have a 'cube, you *must* get Skies of Arcadia. One of the best RPGs I've ever played.

I'll put it on my list then, thanks.

Skies of Arcadia may be the only huge JRPG that I played to completion. At least it's the only one I remember. My only gripe is that it's bogged down by random encounters. Without those, the game would have 99% less tedious. I can't stand the fight every 10 seconds thing. Especially when the outcome is always a foregone conclusion. The fact that I played it in spite of all that is a testimony to how good the rest of the game is.

Other favs:
Harvest Moon: Wonderful Life and Song of Happiness
Chibi Robo
Odama
Killer7
Windwaker
Eternal Darkness
RE4
Luigi's Mansion
Mario Sunshine
Viewtiful Joe 1&2

I vote for Mario Kart, for me it's the game I go back to most often if I'm going to play gamecube.

Is it time to start an official top 25 or 100 or whatever for gamecube since games aren't being made (for the most part) anymore.
