Sega CD- orginally came Sewer Shark. Later ones came with Sonic CD as a pack-in if I remember correctly.

SNES- Super Mario World. Then Mario All-Stars, the sports packs (dunno the games there), the Killer Instinct pack-in and the DKC pack-in. Dunno the years or when these were relased though.

Great topic! :D

The original NES: Gyromite and Duck Hunt.

Atari 2600: Asteroids for a while too, and some Jr. models came with the 32-in-1 cart.

Sega 32X: either Virtua Fighter or Star Wars Arcade (maybe other pack-ins too?) for a while near the end of its life. A sticker on the box proclaimed the game therein.

GameBoy: Tetris

Dreamcast: Sega Classics Volume 1 OR NFL2k, NBA2K and WSB2K (and there was a second sports pack with the white console - did it have the 2K1 series of games?) OR Sonic 1, Sonic Shuffle and Sonic 2 demo. Outside of the US there were a ton of different pack-ins/console makeovers... Hello Kitty anyone? :)

X-Box: Jet Set Radio Future and Sega GT

GameCube: Mario Sunshine

Cool topic.

OH here's one.

Telegames Personal Arcade (aka Dina): Meteoric Shower (built-in).

Just a question. Does the Nintendo E-card reader count? Because if it does doesn't that come with a couple games?

Sega CD- orginally came Sewer Shark. Later ones came with Sonic CD as a pack-in if I remember correctly.

Actually, the ORIGINAL Sega CD came with some other stuff... First, there was Hot Hits/Rock Paintings which had 2 CD's, Sol Feace, and another disc that had some Sega Classics, such as Columns, and there was also Sherlock Holmes, Consulting Detective, Vol. 1.

Sega CD - correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that Tomcat Alley was also a pack-in at some point, probably during the second model era.

kainemaxwell

Actually I think when my stepfather got his Sega CD (1st model) it came with Sewer Shark and the Sega Classics pack...I'll check after my interview.

ClubNinja

I think I have a few to add here...

NFL Football 94 (with Joe Montana, I believe) was a special sports pack in with the Gen II at one point. I have the box somewhere around here - the Gen is displayed on astroturf on the front, heh.

Sonic Pocket Adventure came along with many Neo Geo Pocket Color packages.

For the Game Gear, Sonic 2 was a pack in, and I also believe there was a Columns pack in set, too.

The Lynx had this spiffy four game thing going on from what I remember (I was so close to buying one when it was out there.) It came with Pit Fighter, an airplane game, and two others (I'm hardly up in the Lynx, someone help here!)

The Saturn had a Daytona USA/Virtua Fighter 2/Virtua Cop 2 promotion going on, but I don't remember if that was actually packed in or not.

And I remember the PSX being packaged with Battle Arena Toshinden early on... or am I talking out of my backside again? ; )

Kid Fenris

Tomcat Alley was indeed a pack-in for the Sega CD. I think it replaced Sewer Shark.

That set of Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Cop, and Dayton USA for the Saturn wasn't actually in the box, if I remember correctly. Stores gave them out separately when you picked up a system.

Let's see if there are any left.

NES: Super Mario Bros. 3/World Cup Soccer. (I 'm not sure about this one)

Sega Genesis 2: Streets of Rage 2

Sega Genesis 2: The Lion King

Sega Genesis 2: Vectorman

Sega Genesis 2: Sega 6-Pak

Sega CDX: Sega Classics CD (Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Columns, Shinobi, and Super Monaco GP), Ecco the Dolphin, and Sonic CD

Sega Saturn: Virtua Fighter

And my favorite package of all . . .

TurboDuo: 3 in 1 CD (containing Gate of Thunder, Bonk's Adventure, Bonk's Revenge, and a hidden Bomberman), Ys Book I and II, and a "mystery" game, which was often Ninja Spirit.

Are we also discussing mail-in offers? Bonk's Revenge was sent to purchasers of the TurboGrafx-16, I think.

You sure are keeping me busy!

Just for clarification, I only intend to include games that were actually included in the box with the console, not bundled separately like the Saturn Virtua Fighter 2/Virtua Cop/Daytona USA combo. If I've accidentally done so, let me know! Thanks :)

Sega Master System II came with Sonic the Hedgehog built-in in Europe and Brazil. Also in Brazil, some SMS II's, which I believe were called SMS III's for some reason, came with a Brazil only pack-in cart "20-Em-1", which is 20 "original" (more like early BASIC programming type) games in one cart.

Columns was also another Pack-in for the Gamegear.

@Keir: you missed the other two DC pack in bundles I listed above 8) (unless you left them off on purpose - in that case, the games were packed inside the DC console box, not free separately or anything like that).

Also missed the 2600 Asteroids pack-in and 32-in-1 pack in carts I mentioned... Not sure on the year of the Asteroids pack-in, but it came in the smaller, silver 2600 box with a triangular corner sticker proclaiming that Asteroids was inside. :D

What's a Coleco Gemini?

Keir
10-30-2002, 04:27 PM
@Kaine: The Coleco Gemini is an Atari 2600 clone made by Coleco.

@Charlesaway: I wonder if it was released with both, or if I just made a mistake? I'll change it since I can't confirm that DK was packed in.

@everyone else: Yes, I missed a bunch of updates the first time. I'll try to get them all in now.

GBC (special Pokemon version)[b]-Pokemon Yellow

Nintendo 64 (special Pikachu Edition)-Hey You Pikachu TRU exclusive
Playstation 2-Gran Turismo 3

There was a second Sports Bundle that had NFL 2k1 and NBA 2k1, but I don't think there was a third title. I think this bundle was a refurbished package.

The Neo Geo Gold system had several pack-in configurations. I think one of them was with either Magician Lord or Nam 1975. Then later on, the pack-in became either 3 Count Bout or Fatal Fury 2. Maybe my memory is bad, but I am absolutely sure of the second one because I knew a guy who bought a Neo Geo Gold system with Fatal Fury 2 as his pack-in.

Here's a few more to add:

Atari XE: Packaged with Flight Simulator II, Bug HUnt,(carts) & Missile Command (built-in)

NES Sports Set: Packaged with a Super Spike V'Ball/Nintendo World Cup

I also thought there was a Nes sport set with a 4 player football game, but maybe I was mistaken.

NES Action Set? Euro set packaged with Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles

Also an Australian NES set with a 3 in one cart. Anyone remember this one? Or which games are on it?

SNES with Mario Paint & Super Mario World?

Either Mario World or All-stars I can't remember. But Mario Paint was a packin with one or the other.

XBox (Sam's Club pack):Sega GT, JSRF, and Blinx the Time Sweeper

GBA (Sam's Club pack): Super Mario Advance

There's also a Sams' Club pack of the PS2, but the games were sporadic: Gran Turismo 3, Lilo & Stitch:Experiment 626, one of the Madden games, etc.

There's the Toys R Us pack, which is Sega GT, JSRF, Sea Blade, and Holiday Nine (Outlaw Golf), but only SGT & JSRF are actually packed in as I understand it; I assume that the Sam's Club pack is the same -- you just get Blinx as well, but not in the box, which I believe is what the original poster was asking about.

I've seen Front Line with the "included with Coleco Gemini" sticker as well. Early Intellivision boxes say they include NFL Football but every one I have seen has a sticker over it stating that it includes Las Vegas Poker & Blackjack. Not sure if it ever really came with Football or not.

Got another one.

Dragon Ball Z (MegaDrive) was packaged with the Mega Jet, the portable MegaDrive system sold in promotions by Japan Air Lines.

My MegaJet came with Columns III as the pack-in (although I know some did come with Dragonball Z instead). Others came with a soccer game aswell (J-League Soccer?). Last year a bunch of people from the old Edge forum clubbed together to buy 50 from a seller in Singapore. All were new and sealed, and the pack-in games were luck of the draw from the above 3.

Here's a few PAL pack-ins:

SNES w/ SFII Turbo

Megadrive 1 w/ Altered Beast
Megadrive 1 w/ Sonic
Megadrive 2 w/ Sonic 2
Megadrive 2 w/ Megagames 6 Vol. 2 [Mainland Europe/Australia only]
Megadrive 2 w/ Megagames 6 Vol. 3 [UK only]
Megadrive 2 w/ Virtua Racing
Megadrive 2 w/ NBA Jam [Australia only]

MegaCD 1 w/ Sol-Fearce/Cobra Command & Sega Arcade Classics

Gamecube w/ Zelda
Gamecube w/ Metroid

There was a Hong-Kong based eBay seller who had bought all the leftover stock from Singapore Airlines, and was eBaying them in batches of 1, 5 or 50. A group of Edge forumites (co-ordinated by DP'er Mr Monday) clubbed together to buy 50. It worked out at a very reasonable £45 per unit.

There were many pack-in GameBoy bundles

Metriod II
Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins

(both released during 1993 along with the Zelda bundle)

and someone has already mentioned the Zelda: Link's Awakening

Game Gear, there was a Super Sonic Sports Pack (Carrying case, system, and two games)

Came with Sonic 2 and World Series Baseball

And I do remember the Sonic Spinball Genesis bundle.

My Super NES came with Super Mario World and Super Mario All-Stars as separate cartridges. IIRC (the box is long gone, mainly because my Dad loves to throw the damn things out when I'm not paying attention), there was a slapped-on sticker bragging about the inclusion of All-Stars.

Looking at the Original Post, they Genesis 2 pack in with Streets of Rage 2 is incorrect. It was actually the Genesis model 1 that came with Streets of Rage 2. These can also be added:

Xbox:

Halo Edition Xbox w/ Halo game
NCAA Football 2005/ Top Spin

there are many different pack ins for the 3DO these are what i have in my collection, ive tried to get a list for just the 3DO packins once but i had no one post any :D

3DO Goldstar - pack ins were "FIFA and Shockwave"
3DO FZ1 - pack in i have is just the "Panasonic Real Sampler" (multilingual french/american system box)
3DO FZ10 - pack in is "GEX"

TG16 came with Bonks Adventure and Keith Courage - not a mail in offer but actually in the box

my Coleco Gemini came with Mouse Trap and Donkey Kong, both have stickers on the back but i think the seller i bought it from just included it in with the auction, and the box just says Bonus cartridge included with no mention of what game it could be
i bet they put in whatever cart they had handy at the time they were being made, and just slapped a sticker on the back of them

oh and the SEGA CD Sports Pack with Joe Montana Football

all these i have in my possession

The Neo Geo Gold system had several pack-in configurations. I think one of them was with either Magician Lord or Nam 1975. Then later on, the pack-in became either 3 Count Bout or Fatal Fury 2. Maybe my memory is bad, but I am absolutely sure of the second one because I knew a guy who bought a Neo Geo Gold system with Fatal Fury 2 as his pack-in.

Yes, the first neo geo system came with your choice or Nam-1975 or Magician Lord.

The pack in game was -Joe Montana's NFL Football-

Also for new console:

There is the Sony PlayStation 3 80GB packed with -Motorstorm-

Yep... I chose Magician Lord... still love that game!

The Atari Lynx originally sold only in a package that included California Games as the pack-in...

The Lynx II was released with Batman Returns as the pack-in game late in 1991.

Not to sound like a jerk, but the first Sega Saturn systems sold in the states did come with a pack-in game. The original Virtua Fighter.

I just got a complete SNES today with a pack in that I didn't see in this thread, and wanted to ask about it. Its the SNES model 2, with Tetris Attack packed in. There is a big sticker on the front covering Mario on the right side. Says its a Toys R Us Exclusive. Other than the sticker the rest of the box is the normal art. The Cart doesn't say 'not for resale' or anything. I searched the boards and google and couldn't find anything on it.

Any info would be appreciated, thanks

Atari XEGS Bug Hunt
The XEGS has Missile Command built into the console ROM. It starts automatically if you don't have the keyboard attached, or if you do have the keyboard attached, hold down the Select button while turning it on to get Missile Command (instead of Atari BASIC).

The pack-in cartridge games varied depending on which system bundle you bought:

XEGS (console only): none
XEGS + keyboard: Flight Simulator II
XEGS + light gun: Bug Hunt
XEGS + keyboard + light gun: Flight Simulator II and Bug Hunt

The majority of XEGSes sold in North America came with the keyboard and light gun, thus you got Missile Command built-in and FSII and Bug Hunt on cartridges.
