Sounds good. Isn't that Memorial Day Weekend? A lot of people go out of town on vacation that weekend. I'll be there regardless.
Achika
04-14-2004, 11:04 PM
Yeah, but the problem is, that's the only "good" weekend both of us would be around to hold it. I've got school stuff the first two weekends, and he's got a family function on the 22nd.
Hot nasty public beaches or cool air-conditioned public arcades? :P

It's 5 1/2 hours away but I will try REALLY HARD to get there. It's a possibility because a friend of mine wants to take a roadtrip to AFC in Westland just for beatmania IIDX, and that's only 1/2 hour away from Pinball Pete's...

Damn, when I saw this thread I was hoping you meant East Lansing :(
I haven't been there in years. (Kinda grew up and stopped hanging out on college campuses LOL ) I usually need to give the fiance a better reason to go to the East from GR. Hmmm maybe if the Wings are still in the playoffs I can make a weekend out of it :rocker:

Um, if I can get Pete's to rig a hand held DDR mini-pad, would you come then? :) We'll take lots of pictures so you can see all the fun afterwards. I'll even cut you out of the old pictures and inconspicuously place you in the new ones.

Heh. That would be a good start. Actually, I'll probably go to Pinball Pete's and AFC at an undetermined time soon after finals next week. If any of you locals want to join me in filling the Session mode high score charts on Pete's linked Guitar Freaks and Drummania machines, just say the word. ;-)
By the way, all of you folks that have never been to Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum in Farmington, be absolutely certain that you go there while you're in the area. It's the most grand fire hazard of an arcade that you will ever see. I love that place. They actually have old Show Biz Pizza animatrons placed up around the wall. It's kind of menacing looking, really...

I'm going to try to make it for sure. That's not too far for me, and I haven't played a 5th mix in a long time. You can probably count on me with about 80% "sure-ness".
Looking forward to meeting some people from this board, particularly Captain Yashiro. Too bad davebrit can't come.
ubersaurus
04-19-2004, 01:22 PM
I put in for the day off, so yeah, I should be there.
Captain Yashiro should go to play me in KOF 2003 :P
I'm looking forward to domination in raiden fighters, aerofighters 2, mr. driller, and of course, various 2d fighters. Midwest Championships would be a month from then, so I could use some practice.
Damn them for getting rid of their Outrun 2 machine!
Kroogah
04-19-2004, 01:31 PM
Oog...I haven't played KoF in months....and that would also require prying me off of Drummania.
Currently I'd estimate a 60% chance of me going. Ben (my ride) says he isn't exactly up for driving, but he still wants to play IIDX arcade REALLY REALLY BADLY so we'll probably end up figuring something out.
I'm with WS, I want to actually meet people from the boards too!

I'm giving this some serious thought. Just a shade over 4 hours travel isn't too bad, I suppose. Hell, I did it for Cedar Point last year. The drive home that night was a bitch, though.
Wonder if I can find someone to go along with.

Pete's is far from a smokey arcade. It's very clean...if you've ever seen pictures of the arcades in Japan, it's like that-well lit, lots of games of lots of genres. Controls are wonky on a few, but I know the manager of the place has been tryin to change that(which is why the CvS2 machine now has the ubernice perfect 360 optical sticks).
Last time it didn't really wrap up so much as people just drifited off. We left at about 10, 11 at night though, which around the time the arcade usually closes.
I'm not sure if there's gonna be a tournament that weekend or not-Greg, the guy who works there and runs tournaments, has been doing them monthly, but hasn't announced a date for the May one. I doubt it'll be on memorial day weekend, but who knows.

There's Guitar Freaks and Drummania. Notes go up (or down) the screen and you play them as they reach a stationary row. And promptly lose all your free time to trying to master the game.

Oh, I don't know, 40 to 60 miles, maybe? Perhaps someone with an actual map can give you a slightly better estimate. ;-)

Yeah, I think you two would hit it off well. I've extended the invite to her, hope she decides to go. Of course, that would mean she'd have to endure a 8 hour round trip car ride with me. :)

It took about an hour from Detroit to where my Great Aunt was (and IIRC London was another hour or so?) Then a half an hour to Ann Arbor once you reach the US/CA border.
Oh, one more Chicago-er (?) I forgot before, Butta!!

In other words, I'll be there with bells on, but unless Oob wants to listen to the Xenosaga OST all the way up and all the way back, he better pray that obsession is over with by then.

It's a japanese game that pinball petes has, involving lights in tubes and it's really weird. You have to knock the light back at your opponent, and if they don't hit it back, you get a point.
Achika

What uber fails to tell you is that there are like 10 tubes and you have to eventually watch all of them at once.

Not that I know of, but off the top of my head...
Tron
Raiden Fighters
Mr. Do
Puzz Loop
Mr Driller
Samurai Shodown 4
Mark of the wolves
Metal Slug 2
metal Slug 4
Capcom vs snk 2
marvel vs capcom 2
kof 2003
dead or alive 2
about 6 DDR machines
drummania and guitar freaks machines
a bunch of racing games
Joust
Tetris
pinball galore
House of the Dead
street fighter alpha 3
afterburner
virtua fighter 4
snk vs capcom chaos
and a slew of other games, the place is really big.
And thanks achika for ruining my advantage :eek 2: last time I played her in it, I won by one point after she dominated me the entire time. To be honest, I thought she won, until I looked again.
davidbrit2
04-22-2004, 08:39 PM
A few others I can think of:
Time Crisis 3
House of the Dead 3
Gunmen Wars (4 players)
Gun Mania - Light gun game with a REAL FUCKING PELLET GUN
Flash Beats - The weird virtual air hockey game
Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder (or whatever it's called - 4 players)
X Men - 4 players
Point Blank 2

Just a few quick questions about Pete's for someone who would probably know (which basically means Dave)
Do any of the DDR machines have memory card slots? And are GF4 & DM3 linked up? If so, time will slow to a crawl as I wait for this event.

I know that at least one of them does, but damned if I can remember which ones.

They sure are. It took them long enough to get them hooked up, too. By the way, AFC in Westland has GF9/DM8, linked of course (along with IIDX 8th, and DDR Ex + Max 2). Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum has the same pair of GF9/DM8, and I think they're linked.
Now, back to cleaning my IIDX controller. Ha ha.

Oh, and for anybody that cares, there's a shop in Westland that sells imports. It's on Ford Road, and it's called The Game Spot.

Either way, they do sell imports, but the prices on alot of them are pretty high..even on older stuff. 10 dollars for rather common SMS games? Screw that. They do have Donkey Konga though, at like 140 bucks or so for that and two drums x_x

The Game Spot is technically in Garden City. It's on Ford between Wayne and Venoy.
Never been in there myself, but rumor has it that the prices are a bit high on most of the stuff. So, if you really want something and don't mind spending money on it, that would be the place to go.

Hi All! I'm new to this forum, but i'm a lifelong gamer of all types of games (though i have a fondness for RPG's (on computer) and the Bemani style (Arcade) as well as the "odd style" arcade game too (such as the GunMania games or that virtual air-hockey thing)...
Anyhoo i live in Ypsilanti and am close to Pete's and go there quite a lot. I hope to go there and see people there and maybe network and see other gamerz like me! I DO represent also a cool new website for gamers everywhere: www.cliffracer.com It's run by a buddy of mine and it's gaming accessories and oddities for the consoles and PC's....

Wow, GREAT to see all the people willing to drive for hours. I wish the AA board had a little more enthusiasim. It will be great to see you all there, even though I dont post much here on DP. A few questions came up that I can answer. I'm pretty sure ALL of the DDR machines have memory card ports. The only one that I'm iffy on is 5th mix. Max, Max2, and Extreme all have it for sure. 3rd and 4th mix are linked up, and I had to ask them a few times if they were ever going to do it. Also, someone who listed all the Bemani games, I think you forgot ParaPara =D. Uber, I'll take you in the virtual air hockey game, no sweat. Hehehe. But yeah, this place is massive, they have lots and lots of games. Plenty of japanese games, pinball (duh) and even redemption games that I get addicted to every now in them. I know I'm a loser. By the way, what age are all of you? I'm one of the younger members on both forums, being 15 and all. Just want to make sure I'm not going to meet 30 creepy looking 45 year olds who want me to play with them... LOL

I'll enter in cvs2, but I don't know about the side tourneys.
As far as the competition goes, there's a bunch of people ranging from crummy to pretty decent, you've got about 4 or so pretty good players, and about 3 or 4 really friggin good guys like Juan, Julian, and Keshawn. I've gotten ran lately, but in the past I've gotten up to about 5th place in a 30 man tournament and I don't consider myself that great at this point. Take it as you will.
As far as when it starts, I'm not sure yet...the past few ones have started anywhere between 2 and 5. He hasn't announced many details at this point beyond date.

note on the tournaments going on then: Side tourneys are going to be Marvel vs Capcom 2, and possibly KOF 2003 (due to the size of the Neo cabinet, Greg is unsure if he wants to do a tournament for that). The formats are current planned to be Single Match, Double Elimination, though that can change (if it does, I'll make a note of it here). Time aren't announced either-he's trying to get a consensus of when to start them from the people planning on attending.
If anyone is interested in getting in any of the games, let me know, and I'll pass it along to him.

I'm gonna bring a couple things to trade, one item in particular being something that may interest some people, if they've got anything I want.

I'm tellin ya, repost it in a main forum like the atari 2600 one. I doubt anyone's seeing it in the events forum, kinda like the last time Achika made a gettogether thread here and no one saw it. Do that, and I'm positive more people with express interest.
So, here should we meet up? I reckon in the picnic table section of Pinball Petes (if you've never been, it'll be to the right wall after you come down the stairs to enter).

Hey all,
I plan to be at Pete's too....never been to a meet from an online gaming forum so i'm looking forward to meeting new people. I like all kinds o' games but i think i'm pretty damn good at the virtual air hockey game and i play the drums (drummania) OK (but always lookin for tips to do betta!) lol
Anyhoo, i'm gonna bring a buddy of mine (Tyson) who runs www.cliffracer.com with a bunch of different products for computers/video gaming...if you are looking for any emulation (pc to arcade or console) things just ask me and i'll tell him to bring 'em to show off!!

I'm confirmed to be there. For awhile there I was having job issues and wasn't 100 percent sure. I shall get those ironed out one way or another and if it comes down to it, I'll get some extra cash from my sister or parents.
Basically, I'm in need of a vacation from Ohio badly. Not to mention I promised Uber to scream "NeoGeo Underpants" and "Pat" during conversations. Plus we are planning to bury a certain member in a dumpster outside.

I'm too young to die, dammit!
2 more weeks...I'm looking at Drummania notecharts in preparation and actually starting to play DDR again so I'm not dead after 6 heavy songs. CvS2 tournament should be fun to watch, too.

05-14-2004, 05:25 PM
Aside from the fact that my DDR save got corrupted on my memory card, and that my cheap pad broke, I wont be having much practice in. It sucks too, because I'm almost at the level where I can play Heavy songs without my head exploding, as I can play some of the more chalenging moderate levels with little problems.

Okay, word on the street is that all 4 DDR machines at Pinball Pete's (5th Mix, Max 2, Extreme x 2) are set to 25¢ for one song. So no Oni or Nonstop. Blah.
And also, I demand that all of you play Guitar Freaks at least once. ;-)

I have no idea where you heard that, because thats definatly not true. It has never been set that way, and, unless they changed it within the past 2 weeks, never will be (hopefully). And, those arent even the machines that pete's has.
::Looks at DDR freak machine info::
Ok, looks like they got rid of one machine (DDR max) and stuck another extreme in there. The ONLY machine that has the 25 cent play is ONE of the extreme machines. I knew they wouldnt go and do something that stupid. And I will play guitar freaks, for sure.
One other thing, over at the AA thread, one of the most recent posts tells the places to park if you arent from around A2.

I've been there many times and i've seen people with cams taping games, so i don't see a problem with it, but it's always a good idea ta ask the staff there if it's cool (that way you cover yourself if there IS a prob!) lol
And as for Guitar Freaks with Drummania, i'm game on EITHER one session wise...i always wanna try different stuff and i've never done that yet (nobody seems ta wanna do it when i go there) lol...i'm decent at both Guitar Freaks and Drummania, but any tips would be appreciated! :)

Too bad I can't be there to take one of the guitars. We'd be getting the Session high score for sure. ;-)
Oh, by the way...
Guitar Freaks codes (http://members.at.infoseek.co.jp/himemako/urawaza/ms/gf/gf_base.htm)
Just in case you guys need them. This has all the codes for each version, so check the proper column to see which codes apply to the game you're playing.
Drummania codes (http://www.ne.jp/asahi/hatati/issetu/drum/COMMAND.htm)
For Drummania, just hold the left arrow (or was it the right arrow...) when you start the game for the options menu, and that'll have pretty much everything you need. (You might not be able to do that if you're playing Session, though.) Then just roll on the low tom to get Expert Real mode at the mode select screen. If you want to change speed, hit the bass pedal twice at the song menu.
Oh, and for either game, you can change the scroll speed in the middle of a song. Hold the start button and hit R or B, or Left or Right depending on what you're playing.

There was talk a few months back about getting Initial D or F-Zero AX to replace Outrun 2(as their machine went bad), but in the end the owners decided to not get either. If they changed their minds, I haven't heard about it.

Okay, there's a marginal possibility that I could make it, since I'm scheduled for surgery on the 26th. However, if I do, I won't be very lively since I'll have considerably more than a recreational dose of morphine flowing through my veins. So if I do show up, don't be shocked if I just pull a stool up to Guitar Freaks and stay there for about 3 hours. Ha ha.

well, i posted this in buying/selling where it basically got ignored (a whopping 10 pageviews!), so....
just wanted to throw this offer out to anyone attending the Pinball Pete's meet on May 29th. I have a Final Fantasy XI display (the clear one) up for trade, it's already assembled, in great shape. i'd rather not disassemble it, so if you want it, you'll probably need some kind of truck to cart this thing home, as it's roughly 5 ft tall, 2 ft wide and 2 ft deep.
PM me any offers. thanks.

Just a reminder that this is only 3 days away! If you are planning on going it's time to start:
1) Getting your carpool going
1b) Muscling your way into a carpool
2) Stealing your mom/best friend/sibling/etc.'s car
3) Thinking of your sick story to give to work on Saturday because you forgot to take it off
4) Scouring trashcans and taking cans back to Meijers to get gas money
5) Digging through your closet for a pair of running shoes
6) Looking at bus schedules, finding transfers, buying tickets, making copies.
This is open to ANYONE! Not just Michigan members. It may be small, but it's gonna be a lot of fun. So far we've got people coming from Ohio, Illinois....even if you're coming from Moscow, we'd love to have you with us.

We were specifically thinking of Jess, if he'd still like to go. It wouldn't be too far to get to Ionia at all. After all, it's a Sat, and so the whole DAY is free.
Rockford, on the other hand, seems a bit far - um, can you get to Grand Rapids?
It's my intention to bring about 50-70 commons for trade, and maybe a few systems, like a NES or 2600/VCS or something like that. If my shipment from California gets here today, then I'll have a whole boatload of E3 schwag to trade, too - but... I"m not hopeful. I think my buddies shipped it Slug Express.

Other stuff -
1. I too can bring a camera. 4MP. Hell, I'm likely to write up the event like it's a big deal.
2. Where are we all meeting once we get there? After all, I have NO IDEA what you people look like, and meeting Internet People (tm) isn't something that I'm all that proficient at. Maybe someone needs to wear a distinctive shirt or something. I'll be there with a girl that has the reddest hair ever. Look, but don't touch. Although it seems a bit cliche, I may wear my "Know Your Roots" Nintendo T-Shirt to enable easier identification.
3. This is close to dinner, and as you can imagine by my site name, I'm NOT LIKELY to willingly skip a meal. Arcade food sounds very sketchy, and I'm not sure I'm down with the 3 week old hot dog or whatever. Is food a part of this scenario?

I'm going to sit this one out, folks. Spoon made a very generous offer to pick me up on his way to Ann Arbor, but Ionia is well out of his way and getting me would result in his arriving three hours late. It wouldn't be fair for me to ask him to sacrifice his weekend for my sake.
I just have a hard time believing that, out of ALL the people on this forum who live in Michigan, nobody is anywhere near my current place of residence. Enjoy the party, gang... I'm just going to stay home and spend my next paycheck on GameCube games (that is, if my workplace ever bothers to PAY me. Bastards).

Hmm, I didn't see this post. Well, that's a real downer.
Even though I'm late in posting, are you still interested in going? I mean, it sounds like a good way to use a Saturday to me, if you've still got the day off or whatever.

Yay! Another one!
Well, just because, I'll wear my faded Exite Bike shirt for ID reasons. As for food, they dont have the 3 week old hot dogs, but they do have a little vending machine. Hehe, but for actual eating, there is a Jimmy John's (toasted subs) right across the street, a Pizza place with really good cheap pizza around the corner, and a few other random places, even a sit down resturant if your so serious about these things called 'Meals'. When I go to Pete's, I usally go for the pizza.

If you're going to be in the area, I'll gladly tag along. I'll just warn you up front that I won't have much money for gas now that I've spent most of it on GameCube games (and have to save the rest for rent).

Don't sweat it man. E-mail me directions to your pad, and preferably a phone number. Once we figure out exactly where you are, we'll figure an approximate time that we'll pick you up.

Some of the best food in all of Ann Arbor is right across the street. Oh man, I'm so pumped for some Pancheros. If the best burito on the planet doesn't entice you, there's NYPD (New York Pizza Dept.) and Pizza House, both have excellent pizza as well as a full menu at Pizza House. There's also a Jimmy Johns right next to Pinball Petes, can't go wrong with a good sub.
Oh, and there's also Champion House if you want some sweet asian food... don't remember quite what kind of asian, I got blasted on Sake Bombs last time I was there. They also have a Hibachi area, with the real fancy chef that cooks the stuff right infront of you. That's the Japanese Steakhouse side, and the other is a sitdown Chinese restaurant. Good stuff.

Hi hi. I'll be there since I'm recovering from the surgery quite nicely, but I still get pretty tired out, so I probably won't be there more than a couple hours (and going to eat with you guys, and playing DDR and Drummania is pretty much out of the question.) If anybody wants to play session, I'll be up for a few games of Guitar Freaks.
You'll probably recognize me easily, since my goofy mug is just to the left of this message. And on a side note, I'm posting from a public internet access terminal at the hotel in Cleveland, using a java ssh client to connect to my machine at home, and using lynx to actually browse the site. Netnanny can go to hell, kthx.

I'll be wearing a Mega Man tshirt, and am easily spotted as the scrawny guy who bears an uncanny resemblance to harry potter.
Also, the tournaments have been bumped down to 1:45, on account of people wanting to sleep in a little.
There's some good chinese food places near the arcade, but if you want sushi/japanese food, there's a nice place just a 5 minute walk away, as well as Wizzy Wigs, the import store, for all your random japanese needs.

I don't come over here to this forum very often, and almost forgot my password. Hope to see some new people and also some I have already met at philly. :)

Just a heads up, if anyone wants to help me with CGE funding (see my sig.) and is interested in any of my eBay things use the BIN and I'll deliver them tomorrow and refund the shipping costs (from immediate payment)
I'll be there between 2-3...not sure what shirt I'll be wearing as it depends on the weather, but look for wing-tip shoes....

I'll be the creepy hobbit in the corner.
I thought I had a picture that had both Perkar and I in it from E3, but I guess not. I need to focus on taking pictures of stuff that doesn't suck next year. But I do have a camera, and here's me in my DEFINITELY NOT A DORK environment. Picture taken 10 seconds ago, with super hip blockbuster shirt and everything!

Just a reminder that this is today and I hope to see lots of you there. For all the fence sitters, I hope that you will go (there's time for garage sale finds in the morning and DP meeting in the evening!)
Not sure if someone posted this or not, but if you tune to 106.7 they are doing an "80s Weekend." So be sure to tune in on your way to Pete's and get in the mood! (They are also playing quite a few classic videogame sounds).

I just got back in. I had a great time and meet some cool peeps today. I would definetly like to do this again, I think there were around 17 of us there at one time. Pinballs Petes was a cool place. Would be nice if it had more classic cabs. Still fun though.

yeah, it was definitely a good time had by all... too bad no one wanted my FFXI display. not that anyone could've taken it anyway. everyone in cars, and me in my SUV. damn gas sucking piece of shit LOL
pinball pete's was pretty sweet, any place that has a metal slug 4 cab is ok in my book... and i had a blast playing point blank 2, although the cords on the guns were extremely short.
spoon played some racing game called "thrill-something or other" ... i think it was made by konami... it looked terrible at first glace but it turned out to be pretty fun... especially when motorcyclists were hit.
walking in our massive group across campus to the japanese import store was pretty surreal... i think we got some dirty looks LOL LOL
