Whether it was something very new and trendy and expensive or something very vintage... what was the most money you've ever shelled out for one game?

I'll share my answer later. For now, it's up to you!

I am not sure how much I have spent on newer games. I don't buy new too often any more, but I used to. As far as used, I spent $34 for Final Fantasy III for Snes. I know it wasn't the best price, but it was for a friend who really wanted it.

I paid something like £70 ($110) for Panzer Dragoon Saga (PAL). Worth it? Absolutely, I loved it and lost months playing it! Sadly, I then had to sell it because I was skint and I only bought it on the basis that I could sell it again afterwards. I got £90 for it, but I am still sad that I let it go. First of all, because it was such a great game - and second of all, because it now regualrly fetches £100, and my copy was in almost perfect condition - which is hard to find on the PAL version because the cardboard outer is easily damaged. Foolish really, because I probably wouldn't have played it again, since I coimpleted it, but I can't help feeling the occasional pang of regret that it is gone :-(

I paid £30 ($50) for Snatcher on the Mega CD (PAL) - which was 100% worth it, one of my all time favourite games! I loved the mix of RPG style adventure and frantic lightgun action! The story was outstanding and the anime was great.

I bid more than that for Panorama Cotton for the Megadrive, but lost the auction. On the other hand, I just won Mega Man - Wily Wars (PAL Megadrive) for £15, so that makes up for it!

$250 for 7800 monitor cart with big ass book, plus some extra sheets that were added to the book handwritten by the author.

$209 for Boxed Chase the Chuck Wagon with instructions and original coupon you had to send in to get the game.

$80 for VCS Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Few others...can't think right now.

While were at it:
$0.25 (yes, 25 cents) for Swordquest Waterworld--actually got it free afterward because I fixed his VCS. Gave me back quarter.

$99.99 all day long... for the N64 version of Cruisin' USA when it first came out.

On a side note, how come Nintendo games were always more? Anybody ever notice how SNES games were always $10 to $20 more than Genesis titles? Same with N64 stuff. $99.99? In hindsight, THAT'S A RIP!

You guys are nuts! I've shelled out $40.00 each for several 2600 CGE releases, but the most I've paid for a single game was $42.00 for a DC European Shenmue II I spotted in mint condition at a local used game store. It even came with a boot disc but I still felt like I was spending too much.

Got my Panzer Saga for $20 at TRU, got my Tooth Protectors for .79 at a thrift and got my PS2 GTA III for $9.99 at Goodwill. Getting 'em cheap is half the fun for me. And waiting for new releases to show up used at 1/4 the price isn't a problem as I have a beefy backlog of games to go through. Although I must admit I once dropped a total of $280 in one day at 5 different Best Buys when they knocked all of their Saturn games down to $10.00....timing is everything

A cheap bastard and proud of it!

3 and 3/10ths of a cent !!

Man you guys ARE cheap. Just give the guy his 4 cents and call it a day. I am still trying to figure out how you mananged to pull this one off.

<looks into DPs magic 8-ball deeply>

"OK I'm giving you a full 4 cents today for this NES proto but you still owe me buddy !! " as you wave a pointed finger in the strangers face.

The stranger doesn't say a word and you turn to leave
But just as you are about to walk away a thought clouds your mind. What if this stranger never returns the 7/10ths of a cent.

"Do you have anything cheap like a copy of Final Fantasy or an Atari 2600 proto for the remaining 7/10ths of a cent? I just hate when people owe me money. I never know when I can expect it back."

"I don't have anything like that but I'll make sure to do you right by next Monday, good sir" the stranger says as he shakes from head to toe.

Yet thats was the last you ever saw of the stranger and the 7/10th of a cent were lost forever.

I guess you were right all along. You just can't trust anyone these days.

<pulls away from DPs magic 8-ball>

Ahh so thats how it happened.......

When I bought my GBA I needed a game for it so I bought Castlevania: CotM at list price ($40)

Never again! It's a good game, but I'd rather spend $40 on 40 crap games at $1 a piece. (Besides, what are the chances that you'll buy 40 games and not find one good game in the buch?)

Actually, I just ordered "Napple Tale" for the DC, but it's a present for my brother so it shouldn't count. That was $55.

I paid $200 + shipping for Castlevania X: Rondo of the Blood for PCE about a year an a half ago when you couldn't find it for less..now its sells for $60..go figure :(

The next highest would probably be Alien Soldier PAL for $106 + shipping from Britain, and Panzer Dragoon Saga, which I bought brand spanking new when it came out for $75!

And I'll add the most expensive game I've ever sold was more than the most expensive game I bought. I sold a factory sealed Steam Hearts for PCE for $300 a few months ago :) I also sold my entire arcade for $10,000 (60 arcade games) but I doubt that arcade games count, or the most expensive game I'd have bought would be a Spy Hunter pinball for $500.

I try to set my limit at $100. Which means or more than likely, I'll never get to play Radiant Silvergun at all for the Saturn. The most i paid so far was $100 for Panzer Dragoon Saga (Saturn). Next would be $80 for Lucienne's Quest (3DO) and $80 for Spiderman: Web of Fire (32X)
I'll have to agree with one of the previous posts that Steel Battalion will break my previous limit.

$79.99 plus tax for Chrono Trigger at TRU. I lived in a rural part of NC at the time with very few game shops around, and couldn't resist the game any longer. How I long for the days when my only bill was a $92 a month car payment, even if I was barely making over minimum wage after school.

Interestingly enough (to me anyway), I didn't really know what I was getting. It was my first RPG, but I was convinced to buy it by Flea Market Guy (who gave me a little info about RPGs when I asked why some of his SNES games were so much more expensive) and the awesome CT ads. When I first started playing, I sat there a minute before realizing that *I* had to advance the dialogue further.

It made me 30 some cents short when I bought gas on the way home that fateful night, but luckily the guy was kind enough to let me come back and pay it the next day (which I'm proud to say I did). It also kicked off a craving for good RPGs that will probably never be quenched.

67 posts later and I finally get around to answering.

I asked this question because I had just paid $250 for a boxed Atari 2600 "Lochjaw". You may have expected that I've paid much more for some of the other things in my collection, like the boxed "Malagai", boxed "Video Life" - both of which would go for well over a grand if I were to sell - or the piles of prototypes I've amassed over the years, but you'd be wrong. Fortunately I've stumbled into lots of great stuff mainly from just being in the right place before everyone else or being terribly persistent with owners (you know who you are).

So that's it for me, $250 for a boxed Atari 2600 "Lochjaw". Closest to that would be $200 for a boxed Intellivision Congo Bongo.

I paid $81 for RPG maker 2 new is the most i paid for a game. Wow, I got RPG Maker 2 three days after it came out and I only payed $39.99 for it. :o

Nice Sonic LE....my friend Nez found the cd for 4 bucks then he put in a product request for shenmue limited edition at a nearby gamestore and the guy got in sonic LE and called him accidentally and he bought the case for 7 dollars, lol. Lucky bastard.

Anyhow....today I shall reach the highest I have ever paid for a game:

Buster Douglas - Sega Master System $90

Pretty damn high, but it will be mint, complete and I don't want to hunt it down.

Panzer Dragoon Saga paid 180 for it.

BUT! It also come with Gaudian Heros, D, Lunacy, Brain Dead 13, Ledgend of Oasis, Myst, Shining the Holy Arc and a Sega Saturn. Phew.

But I was mainly going for SAGA.

The most I've sunk down for one item is a tie: $50 for Namco Museum 4 for PS and 2600 Demolition Herby loose at 2001 CGE Auction.

The single largest chunk of change I've ever laid down was $300+ for 4-5 cases of various SW'ed Classic (pre-crash) games.

£75 (~$135) for the PAL Samurai Shodown for the Mega-CD, including shipping from Germany to the UK. HIghest proxy bid was £151 (~$270) for Syndicate on the same. And yes, it went for the next increment up - I was at work when the auction ended

Up until now about 70 bucks for various 64 games. in a few days though im going to plop out $200 for Steel Battalion.

www.gamestop.com has it for $190 with free ship and no tax, and fry's has it on outpost.com for $180 plus tax and shipping, if you see it in a frys b&m then it would be $180 plus tax there.

Well I lost out on a 10,000,000 Playstation unit at $1,300 a short while back. I would have bid higher, but I was sniped with 6 seconds left. I live.

But for an individual game, 200 For Steel Battalion when it released, the 300 that I dumped on my Xbox and PS2's. My highest game auction was for Lunar SSSC: Fan Edition which went for 85 shipped,

Ive tripped out in regards to what ive spent on some of my games (be it the retail price or whatever) but what it comes down to in the end is as long as i'm happy with the game, then I can really have no complaints.

I paid 70 for DBGT a couple years ago, but I've never spent near that for any of the PSX or DC games in my collection, even though I've picked up most of the rarities and expensive titles at some point. Even expensive PSX games can be had cheap with some patience - Silverload for 10, Fox Hunt for 10, Suikoden II for 20, Valkyrie for 15, DDR Disney for 30, etc.

$30 for a used and complete copy of The Sims for PS2, a few months after it came out. I was addicted to the game for about a month and a half. I see used copies going for $10 all the time now, and I still don't regret paying that much.

I'll probably break the record when GTA: San Andreas comes out, though.

And I did.

New record: $49.99 for a new copy of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Here's hoping it'll be worth every penny, like The Sims.

King of Fighters 2001 (Neo Geo) -129.00.

But, one of these days I will break that record.

The most for me? $51 shipped for a complete Final Fantasy II (SNES). Behind that, $50 for a sharply-scratched disc-only original Dragon Ball GT Final Bout (PS1) (resold for $80). Then, Dragon Warrior IV (NES), cartridge only, $40 shipped. As for systems, the most I've ever paid for a system is...well...I dunno... I can recall dropping $40 on a model 1 NES with 22 games (and 3 SNES games...don't ask how those got thrown in there), $46 on a Philips CDi 615, and $30 on a Turbo-Grafx 16 & CD expansion setup (with the carrying case for the whole thing). Probably the worst, though, was when I traded my Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete (PS1) box set for a Japanese PS1 and Golden Sun: The Lost Age (GBA, cart only)...

I am by no means a 3do collector, but I bought this one for two reasons: (a) I had just gotten a lot of spending money out of the CGE auctions, and (b) Joe swore to me up and down that it's a valuable game. I can't wait until it's 2010 and I can sell it back to Joe for $1000 or something. LOL

Greetings

My most expensive game was bought retail back in 1988

The release price of $79.99 was just way too much so I had to wait till it went on sale. Finally I found a store that was having a sale with all games like 20% off and since the price had came down a little It was $57.99 plus 6% tax. That was after driving 20 miles from my house too!

Know what game I am talking about? Maybe a hint, Master System :)

Yes, till this day I have never paid more that I did for Phantasy Star 1. Most games I buy used. Exception was Tron 2.0 xbox but that was only 40. and the last time I paid 50 for a game in a store was REZ for PS2.
The most I have spent on eBay for a game was $38 total for a new saturn Power Drift .

Well, I paid $150 US for brand new factory sealed Hyper Duel for Sega Saturn, $150 US for mint and complete Battle Mania 2 and Slap Fight for Mega Drive, $100 US for mint and complete Pengo also for Mega Drive, but the one that really cost the most for me is mint and complete Snow Bros for Mega Drive...I paid over $300 US for that one.

The most I've ever paid for a game/cartridge was 157$ for a 500-in-1 Famicom multicart around 7 years ago...back then they were very rare in the US and sold for high prices on eBay...I was 13 back then and remember convincing my parents that this cart is very rare and worth the money...man, was I wrong...now they sell for 3-15 euros here in Europe....oh well, people make mistakes, especially at a young age ;)

-Speedy

P.S. to make matters worse, this particular 500-in-1 only contains 6 very common games! :(

I guess as far as older stuff repurchased, it would be my complete w/box map and booklet of Final Fantasy for the NES. $40.00 the book, map and box are not in great shape either. But I spose it could be worse. Seen it go for a lot more on Ebay.

Mere minutes ago, I paid $95.75 for a complete copy of the U.S. version of Keio Flying Squadron on Sega CD. It hasn't come yet (I just won the auction less than an hour ago), but I'd been wanting that game forever and it has been more typically going for $130-140 on eBay lately, so woohoo.

single game would be radiant silvergun at $150 before shipping.

but, it'd really be Dracula X: Rondo of Blood @ $135+ $200 for the system to play it on.

Then you have the other expensive saturn games I've paid for, funny thing is that I got my copy of Steel Battalion for less than my copy of Radiant Silvergun.

#1 is Diablo 2 for the PC when it first came out for $55. I think it was worth it for all the hours I spent on it, but I just hope it's not true that Diablo 2 is a MMORPG costing $15 a month like WoW.

#2 goes to Guildwars ($50), which I bought a week after release and haven't spent more than 40hrs on, but I feel I might get back "into" it over winter break.

#3 for the win is House of the Dead 2 for the Dreamcast. It's a odd placement because I spent $13 on it at Gamestop but paid an additional $24 for 2 guns and $4 for 2 rumble packs. It's the only shooter I have for the Dreamcast so I claim it to be a "bundle" of $41.

#4 is Gamecube's very fine Worms 3D for $35 new after it came out. God I love the Worms! games!!

#5 has to be another new Gamecube title: Serious Sam - The Second Encounter! $30 baby!

Everything else is under $20 because I'm cheep and love to save money buying used games that CAN work as good as new.

Dropped $300 on a flawless Quadrun a few years back.
Paid $200 for a complete 2600 Stronghold this past year.
Paid $200 for a 2600 Color Bar Generator w/instructions (that was a steal!).
Spent $188 on a 2600 River Patrol very recently (another bargain).
Other than that, all I can think of are a bunch of MVS neo geo kits/games I spent anywhere between $100 and $200 each on.
Bought a 2600 Tapper prototype for $150 IIRC. That was the most expensive proto I ever bought.
I've surpassed this with the purchase of gauntlet for the 2600 as well as an unreleased prototype. Let's just say it was more than $1000 for both.
