What's a comics subforum on a video game board without one of the best comics series ever?

I love the Nintendo Comics System comics from Valiant back in the 90s. Hard as hell to find, but I enjoy hunting them down. Have all but one issue of Captain N, the hardback Best Of book, and 6-7 other issues of Zelda, Game Boy, and Super Mario Bros. The stories weren't the most complex or intricate, nor was the art amazing, but they were simple and fun, much like the video games of the time. The old Sonic comics used to be the same way, but they've mutated into something....far different.

Anyone else read these comics or read them back when they first came out?

I read one of the Game Boy ones.

The writers were on crack.

I have a bunch of these. There aren't many. Only Super Mario Bros. kept going for a while while the rest had something like 4-5 issues a piece.

Yeah, Game Boy was really, really bizarre. Linkara did a great review of it recently. But most of them had some really good stories. Zelda in particular had a shockingly dramatic one in which Link became corrupted by the Triforce of Power. And one of the Captain N stories had Kevin damn near try to kill Mother Brain when he was lead to believe he lost Lana forever.

I have one of the Mario ones around somewhere but sadly the cover's a bit shredded due to a moving accident I had.

I used to have Game Boy #1 and I didn't understand anything in it. I saw the Linkara review and I STILL don't understand anything in it.

What's sad is a lot of these still aren't scanned and floating around, at least not last time I checked.

Ah yes, the beginning of something great until Acclaim screwed it up!

It'd be a good one. Clearly this isn't Venom, thusly it's not good.

What I found most interesting is Samus. They put Samus in Captain N since they couldn't use Mega Man and Simon Belmont but it ultimately worked very well. First, Samus's absence from the cartoon was pretty damn conspicuous. And second, her characterization in the comic was pretty neat, essentially a female Han Solo.

I had a handful of these, mostly Zelda and I never read them....
