Has anyone ever seen or (gasp) made one of these?

In fact, I just finished one a few weeks ago. It's going to be on display at my school's art show.

About those discolored bricks and technics ones: I found it really hard to find enough gray bricks and that was the best I could do.

I actually have 2 more that I will probably get pictures of later.

That's actually a really neat idea for a project. I've done sprite recreations of Mario and other NES characters before but have never thought of doing flat, profile views.
