Anyone know of any toys that are just creepy? Only one I can think of is the talking Teddy Ruxpin.

Ventriloquist dolls. I had a Charlie McCarthy doll that I attempted to use for maybe a couple of months before I put it in a box in my basement and never opened again because I was scared he was pissed at me for locking him in a box. I recently cleaned house and disposed of him.

Another thing I remember was this head that was kind of like a creepy Mr. Potato head, in that you could swap out eyes/nose/ears/hair etc. only it looked like a zombie head or something. It came with a pinkish/red putty that you could use for blood I guess and the only other thing I really remember was that one of the hair pieces was blue. I liked it, but I guess technically it's pretty creepy.

Sock monkeys. Used to always scare the shit out of me when I was a kid, and I refused to go to bed unless they were out of my room. I don't know why they scare me, but even to this day I get the chills from looking at them.

I've never had one of these, but it is the absolute creepiest toy I have ever seen.

Agreed, you win with that one. Even the commercial was creepy.

Dear... God. As if the doll wasn't creepy enough, the announcer in the commercial is clearly evil incarnate.

The quick-looking children didn't help that commercial any...jeezus

I know what you're talking about, but I can't remember the name. It was made around the same time Creepy Crawlers and that kit to make creepy candy was released. It was basically the same theme. It was a monster head that you could replace various things with. It had a rubber spot on it's head that was supposed to be a festering sore. You would put green goo into it, then push a button and watch it ooze out.

The creepiest toy I can think of wasn't even one I owned. When I was a kid, my cousin's 3 year old had a Barny doll. It was one of those ones that could clap it's hand and say phrases. Well, the damn thing broke one day, for one reason or another. We ended up putting it in an unused room until it was either repaired or replaced. I took the batteries out, turned around and walked to the door. My cousin was about to say something when there came a voice:

"Wwiiiiiiiiiilllllll yyyooooooooooouuuuuuuu bbbbbbbbbbbeeeeeee mmmmmyyyyyyy ffffffffffffffrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeennn nnnndddddddd?"

We just stood there, staring at the doll for a moment. Then we stared at the batteries that were currently in my hand, the ones there weren't in the damn doll.

We shut and locked the door until the family came back. I don't know whatever happened to the thing and I don't want to know.

Yes, that's the one!

I remember kids at school having them. Apparently, the replacement goo was staggeringly expensive, which led to the toy not selling well.

How long ago was that? My fiance has said that she had a Barney doll.. It did the exact same thing to her also.. Apparently also without batteries it would randomly say "I love you (insert name of person)" and "my mind inserts don't leave me but that's not right".

Something like 10 years ago. I've read that this is a common problem with talking dolls of that kind from that time. Something to do with the copper connectors retaining just enough charge from the batteries to fire the recorder, but not enough complete a phrase in anyway that would be considered coherent or normal.

I was thinking along those lines... but still is not any less creepy.

I used to love "scary board games" when I was a kid. Had Which Witch, Green Ghost (a gift from my aunt and I wish I had kept it -now worth $$$), and a few others. But my favorite was this one:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/5893

Disney's Haunted Mansion boardgame. It was huge, has turning floor panels, and was very creepy. And it too is now worth a bunch of money. Again, wish I had kept it.

Heh. "Replacement goo."

I wonder if the Ninja Turtles Ooze would've worked in place of the Official Monster Face Goo - it may well have been the same stuff.

I've never been able to find the commercial for it on Youtube (searches for it all pull up unrelated stuff), but the creepiest toy I've ever seen is Yano the storyteller. It was a creepy doll with "life-like" movements that would read stories to you.

In lieu of a commercial, here is a small picture, which does not do it justice.

There's a newish Elmo toy that's suposed to close his eyes but really the black part just rolls up under the white part. I find that strangely creepy.

I remember seeing that thing on TV. It looked rather stupid to me. Why can't I just read the book myself? I don't need that freaken furry to read it for me.

Going back to the 1970's again, I had this action figure called Pulsar, whose gimmick was that his chest was transparent, and by pushing the "kung-fu grip" button on his back, you could make his heart, lungs and circulatory system all function, or "pulsate". This didn't bother me, but I managed to nauseate more than one girl my age, as well as a few adults, with my Pulsar doll.

Actually the part that creeped me out was that Pulsar's face opened up so you could put "mission discs" directly into his head, like so:

http://www.bugeyedmonster.com/toys/pulsar/pulsar/head.jpg

Pulsar was "wetware" before anyone had ever heard the term. Still, there was just something I always found unsettling about opening up his head from that particular angle and laying a computer disc (long before I had any real concept of such a thing) onto his mushy brain parts.

I remember this toy.. I don't find it scary or creepy in any way. That video proves nothing to me other than somebodies inability to create something good. I perplexed by it's high rating..

Huh, I thought it was hilarious. In a "boy, this is demented!" sort of way, of course. ;)

Repeating bugs me too. It doesn't have as much as other videos of this type tend to have, which is probably why I like it so much.
If you like weird stuff like this, please check out the baby doll commerical by the same user.
It really invokes the insanity of these toys. ;)

Darn tposted Baby Laughs A-lot already, that thing is creepy as hell. Other than that my grandmother had a pull string bear from the sixties that had gradually worn out. It had five "Fun Phrases" and had a demonic voice after years of being over used/stored in a basement. "I love you friend" turned into "I want you head" as "Lets explore" became "Bloody floor" ( I would stay awake all night if I even heard it close to dusk). Didn't help that the thing was stitched together in a few places and missing the eyes.

You can shave the baby?!? Oh can I really? Thank you so much! Why don't they make a toy called "Milk The Duck"? This one really had me laughing. I'm naming my band "You Can Shave The Baby".

Apparently, if your Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Devastator action figure lacks a certain articulation the movie character possessed it can be fixed....

"Daddy! Blow up my hammer!"
"Son... I love you, but hell no!"

This was reported as an internet hoax, but JeepersMedia on Youtube has the proof that they were in fact produced, marketed and sold. That's debunking the debunkers. Gotta love it. LOL

The event that led to the creation of the Superman Pillow Buddy is truly sad... Who knew such darkness lay in the heart and mind of the Man of Steel?
