As most of you know, Target discounted tons of it's games after the new year and even created a $19.99 and below section that runs in an aisle adjacent to the normal games(atleast thats how it is here in Maryland). But recently they have been clearancing many of the regular and discount games. Among today's finds:
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror for PS2 $9.98
Dead or Alive 4 for 360 $14.99
Lego Star Wars: Original Trilogy for Xbox $4.99
I also saw discounted controllers and memory cards for the PS2. I'm sure you can find some pretty amazing deals in your local Target if you check it out. I just thought I'd share this info with you guys/girls.

An uninterested and uninvolved party feels the need to chime in. Members of this board who have spoken up before have had a point. These threads are useful to some (many even), but go against the grain of Modern (and Classic) Gaming discussion.
To quote:
"This is not cheapassgamer."
Another call to the mods and DP to add a Deals forum or something similar to corral these topics from being a fragmented mess. They are appreciated, but need a place to call home. They benefit no one as singular threads that warrant no discussion and drop off the first couple pages immediately.
To quote one of the baddest MF'ers out there:
GAME ON!
And thank you to those who look out for all of us and post the good info.

To ignore the previous two posts... :)
(Actually, I agree we need a Deals forum.)
Is DoA 4 worth $15? I only have a few 3D fighters (Bushido Blade, Soul Calibur, and VF4), and could pad out my collection (though I'm much more of a 2D fighter fan).

DoA4 was pretty cool. Super cheezy boss, great graphics, tight control, online was kind of whack (whoever hosted had a mega advantage).
I sold mine since I figured I'd pick it up again for cheap later on, maybe this will be that time... but I doubt my local targe will have any. Maybe I'll drive down and check.

I get it. But is it necessary to create this thread when a thread dealing with the same thing was created 2 or 3 days prior?
http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=114990
2, 3, or 4 simultaneous target clearance or sale threads is a detriment to the cause. Really. Especially when they deal with the same thing.
These threads need to be merged, just like the last 2 circuit city sale threads were.

I'm of the belief that the existence of CAG negates the need for a deals forum. When I go online to look at gaming, DigitPress, CheapAssGamer, and Joystiq pretty much fulfill my every need. They are complimentary websites, not competing ones.

I love these threads but TheDomesticInstitution summed up my feelings on this one:
But is it necessary to create this thread when a thread dealing with the same thing was created 2 or 3 days prior?
Seriously, what's wrong with just bumping the one a page or two back with a heads up of your current finds on the clearance rack at your Target?
Neil Koch
04-05-2008, 05:27 PM
Yeah, these Target threads aren't very useful, since (as I pointed out in the other thread) each store does their own clearance. I don't think there needs to be a whole sub-forum, but I think a stickied "deals/sales/clearance" topic might be useful.
If the mods are looking at this, if we're talking about useless/overplayed threads, how about some sort of stickied "official Gamestop/EB bitching" thread as well?

no dude, this goes beyond "let him post what he wants'
this is not 4chan, this is not newsgroups and gamefaqs (yet even those last two has some catagories/moderation). this is DP, and you cannot post whatever you want, wherever you want. that said, deal and such do not related to Modern Gaming discussion anymore than stuff posted in the ebay/B&S/"what its worth" subforums -- thats why they are separate.

I too like these threads -- I barely have the time to keep up with DP, and don't have the time to read CAG too. I've always thought there should be a "$20 and below" thread running that covers all kinds of finds like this, though I had pictured it more of a "this game just went 'Greatest Hits', better pick it up now if you don't want the crappy GH label". I know I missed a couple non-GH PSP and Gamecube games along the way.

Whoa, tough room. Anyway, I didn't know where to post this at, but if it's in the wrong place, by all means let the mods move it. Also, someone mentioned there was another Target thread. I only saw a Circuit City one. But again, if there are more, the mods can combine them. As stated in the first post, I was just trying to give my fellow gamers a heads up on some good game discounts.

I have said this before, I like to hear about a "really good" deal. I don't get over to CAG all that much. It may have been covered there, but half of the posts on this board are discussed on other boards. I have gotten over a dozen really cheap games from these types of threads in the last few months. They are helpful to some of us. I dont see why people dont skip over them if they dislike them. I do agree with keeping them in one thread instead of posting them all over the place.

If you guys had such a huge problem with it, then why post to it and give it a bump keeping it on the front page. If you don't like it, seriously, just don't post to it.
It would be like me buying up a buttload of country cd's and then bitching that I wasted my money because I hate country. Seriously, if that many people didn't like it, it wouldn't be bumped to the front.
Sorry to rant, but I post on here like once a month now, and everytime I came back on, somebody starts up a good thread and people complain all through it.
I say, keep these threads coming. I don't have an account on cag and I don't post on joystiq.
I go to Target all the time. I will have to check it out to see if we have the same deals. I was told that DOA 4 is crazy hard, like retarded hard, but for 14.99, I wouldn't mind giving it a try.

No... a more apt metaphor would be:
You started a post about how much you hated country music. Then a day later someone else starts an entirely new thread about how they hate country music, instead of posting to your thread. All the threads that were bitched about had a similar thread started a few days or a week or so prior. If people are gonna fill up Modern Gaming with "Deal threads," they need to post smarter.

all xbox games left in stock are all 4.96
tony hawk
star wars battlefront
leggo star wars 2

myrads of sports games
ps2 greatest hits games:
2 differnt shitty naruto games
ghost rider
mlb bigg something something hit 7.98
two worlds for 360 hit 24.98
and my two cents, much like the "durr anybody know of any game stores in the XXXX area?" topics, if you aren't interested, here is a novel concept...

I grabbed Socom 3 for $5, this follows my "any non-sports, non-budget title game for ps2, gc, or xbox that is under $5, I will probably buy it" mentality.
They have one new logitech wireless controller for Xbox that I've been eyeing hoping that it will drop more before someone else buys it, but I'm very tempted to pick it up anyway as I need another xbox controller.

Here's an idea, since Target has a seriously FUBAR clearance policy:
An official Target clearance/discount thread, where everyone lists deals they saw, and specifies the Target they saw it at, using the cross streets/store number/whatever. Wouldn't this make the most sense?
josekortez
04-08-2008, 06:57 PM
I'm sorry. I'm the biggest fan of cheap games that there is, but it is impossible to have a consistent Target clearance thread due to the fact that none of the stores have a consistent manner of pricing games since each store decides its own price drops.
And since I like getting the best deals, I would be less likely to participate in listing the stores I frequent because unfortunately other people will pick them up before I can get to them.
For instance, today, I found a couple of games I'd hidden in a store while waiting for them to drop.
Lego Star Wars II (GC, PC) - $4.98
Naruto: Ultimate Ninja (PS2, GH) - $4.98
Stranglehold (360) - $14.98
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (PS2) - $9.98
Tony Hawk's Project 8 (PS2) - $4.98
Tony Hawk's Project 8 (XB) - $4.98
Now, if I told people exactly which stores I shopped, there'd be no deals left if there was another DP member in my area, and I know of at least two others...

Marvel Ultimate Alliance (xbox) - 4.98

Sometimes when you take games to the price scanners(scattered thru out the store)they ring up lower than what they are marked. Even before this big clearance sale I got atleast a few games after scanning them and finding out they were priced alot lower than what they were marked at.

That's why it disappoints me when stores don't have price scanners, since at the local Shopko here I've had to make people scan a pile of 20-30 games just to find which ones are on clearance (but I have gotten quite a few $2-$5 games doing this).

Thats a good deal, but you could have gotten that same game at Sears for $5.95. And yes thats for the Gamecube version. Speaking of Sears, everyone should check their local ones for sales because I just got the Limited Edition of Halo 3 for $24.95.

Since I have two local Targets and another 4-8 semi-local ones, these clearance deals will continue for awhile. Yeah, those Nestle's Crunch bars are HTF!!! Seriously, I bought like 9 packs of the M&Ms and 3 Crunch bars, and I ended up giving half of them away at work.
And the Naruto game you're thinking of is Uzimaki Chronicles, an action game that actually wasn't that bad.
Here's a sale that isn't clearance but these games are still really cheap if you're looking for them. When I got my Gamecube two weeks ago for $69.98, it was one of only two for sale. However, another Target has a whole cabin full of them. If they stay there unsold like they are now I'm sure they will go down alittle more. Then I can get another one and will return the more expensive one.

Wanted to toss out there that I saw Def Jam Icon for the 360 at my Target for $7.48. Not my type of game, but some may want to keep a heads up for that.
I have seen alot of games at discounted prices at Target lately that, like you said, aren't my type of game and thus I don't pick them up. Thats why I encourage everyone to visit your local Target atleast twice a week. They are obviously remodeling their game section and are trying to get rid of alot of their inventory. Theres still plenty of great deals to be had:rocker:

Picked up today for PSP:
Street Fighter Alpah 3 Max - $14.99
Jeanne D'arc - $20.99
Final Fantasy - $20.99
Not the cheapest, and I don't even have a PSP but I couldn't pass these up. I guess this is a good excuse to get one. :wink 2:

I just wish target would discount stuff beyond 75% off before sending them off like the clearances K-mart, Sears, or Shopko does since there are plenty of games I'll buy for $5 that target will only discount to $10 or $15 since their original starting points before the clearance drops are $40 or $60

I got Lego Star Wars for the Xbox and Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 for PS2, both for $4.98 at Target. And these weren't the only games that they had for sale under $9.98. Like I said, just keep checking in regularly and you will find some pretty amazing deals;)

But those were $20 regular price before they were clearanced, so they went down to $4.98, $30 regular priced games won't drop below $7.48, $40...$9.98, $50...$12.48, and $60...$14.98.

I found a platinum GameCube at another Target yesterday for only $49.98, even though it was clearance stickered at $69.98 still. So make sure to take them to those price checkers.
BY the way, all of what I'm finding is usually on one of the back row aisle endcaps - usually about 5-6 aisles away from the video game section. In the videogame area, I don't find any cheap stuff at all. Is this typical for all Targets everywhere?

The one in my town leaves some in with the games and the rest on the endcap right next to the games. In the 2 targets closest to me in nearby towns they are a few rows away so it really just depends on location.

Guitar Hero 2(with guitar) for PS2 $39.99
Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles for Psp $14.98
The Orange Box for PS3 $14.98
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories for PS2 $4.98
Hitman Contracts Dvd I-Guide $2.48
The following wasn't purchased at Target but I decided to list them anyway. I bought these games(all factory sealed) at an import store here in Maryland:
Spy Hunter: Nowhere To Run for Xbox $9.99
The Guy Game for XBox $9.99
Jampack Vol. 14 for PS2 $2.99

Yeah, I scored The Orange Box (PS3) myself today for $14.98.
Also, the associate in the electronics section was being a jack@$$ when I asked him to pricecheck the "As Is" items. He refused and told me that "As Is" items don't get reduced any further, which is a load of crap.
actually you're very wrong, an "as is" tag is for a piece of damaged merchandise, the as is price is a set price that never changes as its not a clearance item, "as is" genrally is a set percentage off determined by a teamlead or executive based on the damage, these items aren't considered clearance and have no further markdowns.

I'm assuming there is a thread on this, but is anyone else taking advantage of the "Buy 2 - Get one free" deal that Target has going on right now. For each system it's different, but here are the ones that I know:
XBOX 360:
Buy any two of these and get Mass Effect for free:
Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Ninja Gaiden II, Scene It!, Nascar '09, and a few others.
I picked up R6V2 for $39 and Nascar 09 for $59 and got Mass Effect free! Not bad for $108 including tax!
For Nintendo DS:
Buy any two get Wario: Master of Disguise free:
Lego Raiders of the Lost Ark, Super Mario Bros., Pets Dogz 2, Zelda: Twilight Princess, and a few others.

I knew about this from reading the ads in the paper but it's still nice to have it posted here for all the other people that didn't know about it. Call of Duty 4 for 360 and PS3 $20.00
Stranglehold for 360 $5.00
Dance Dance Revolution Universe for 360 $5.00
Sonic Riders for PS2 $5.00
Beowulf for 360 $5.00
All are factory sealed because they are just trying to get rid of some of their overstock. Call of Duty 4 was actually $30 two days ago so I'm going to check back in tomorrow and Friday to see if they lower it again. I don't know why but I keep finding ALL the best deals at retail stores(just lucky I guess). I'll continue to keep you guys posted on what deals are going on at each store. Usually to keep stuff the only times I really buy to resell is if I know for sure I'm going to make at least $15 after shipping and fees are figured in on an item otherwise its not really worth the trouble.

Based on this post, I went back to Target with only my receipts (from 5/21/08) and asked about price matching when something gets less. She said that's a 14 day policy, but that I could return the item within 90 and re-buy at the lower price.

Yes, the games are in the electronic section. I just added Sears to this thread not long ago because of all of the amazing video game deals I've gotten from there over the past 2 months(read the thread to see the good stuff discovered). And you are also correct in assuming that not many gamers know about going to Sears. My Sears use to be Mongomery Wards before they all closed down a few years ago. I was actually returning Condemned 2(bought for $9.98) because I don't think I would have liked it or even got around to playing it. At my Target though, most of the 360 sports titles are marked down to $7.98 though. They also had Transformers for DS at $9.98.
Wow! I have to go back and check the DS section for Transformers, as my boys would kill for that one! I'm going to return the Lost Odyssey probably, as I'm not a real RPG fan, and turn-based fighting bores me to death.

May have to keep an eye out for Grid, lovin' this thread!
K, got Grid...awesome. Also found at Target:
Kane & Lynch for $10 on 360, not just PS3 as previously reported.
Saint's Row $5 - 360 (mega super platinum hits version, but still...)
Blast Works for the Wii - $10
Also: Circuit City had a couple bins of their $20 games marked down to $16.96, not a huge markdown, but I finally own Zack & Wiki :) I know it's been $10 some places, but I've not been fortunate enough to find it at that price.

Theres two versions for Ds. The one that was $9.98 was the Decepticons version. The Autobot version is still marked $19.99 at my Target. Today's lone find was:
Battle of the Bands(Wii): $7.48

Probably. When I went to purchase the Metroid Prime Gamecube bundle at Sears it was marked at $49.99 but rang up for $24.99. So I told the clerk that I would buy the other one they had in the display cabinet. So I basically got 2 for the price of 1. $49.99=2 Metroid Prime Gamecube bundles:pimp:

Final Fantasy 12(PS2) $4.98
God of War(PS2) $13.98
Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit(PS3) $14.98
too many damn $4.98 sports games for PS3, 360 and PS2
On a related note, Toys R Us had a discount bin with:
Halo 2(Xbox) $5.00
Elite Beat Agents(NDS) $5.00

I think it keeps things more organized. People just have to remember to post what store they're talking about. :p I think 1 2 P was talking about Target since he said that he got a GTA 4 LE.

Sorry guys. I was talking about Target for all of those sales except for the Toys R Us ones. As for why we don't have seperate threads--Digital Space hit the hammer on the nail. It's better to have one thread to cover 5+ stores than 5 different threads where only one or two get posted on because they have the majority of the salee(which would be Target and Sears).

Not sure if it's just around here or not, but if you've missed a deal on a clearance game at Target, check your local Goodwill. The closest Goodwill to me generally has a handful of former Target clearance games (largely the horseshit titles, unfortunately).
I've also found that certain Wal Marts are decent from time to time for cheap games, even though I hate to shop there for anything else. Grabbed Perfect Dark Zero and Overlord the other day for $10/each, and while I know that's not that great for PDZ, it beats a booger-smeared used copy from Gamestop for a mere $2 savings. I also spotted Timeshift for $8 but I knew I'd never play it.

House of the Dead 2 and 3 Return
Ninja Reflex
Bee Movie Game
All for the Wii, $20.98 each. I'm not sure if Ninja Reflex and Bee Movie are even worth noting here, but they're probably more appealing than the multiple copies of MLB 08 for the PS3 that they had for the same price.
I bought the last copy of Looney Tunes: Duck Amuck for the DS, which isn't a clearance game, but is one of the DS titles that's on sale for $11.99 through tomorrow.

Went to Target today to see if they still had in GTAIV Special edition for 360 (selling it for $45, but I skipped because I really didn't need it). They didn't but I did find No More Heroes for 20.98. Sad it is on clearance, but they are making a sequel so yeah.
I think they also may have had FaceBreaker for PS3, but I'd doubt that that was the game because it is unlikely it would be on clearance so soon. Didn't look at the price though.

PURE (PS3) - $29.98 (50% off)
Pure (xbox 360) - $41.98 (25% off)
Lego Raiders (xbox 360) - $40.98
And a few sports titles, like NBA and Madden but since I don't buy them I didn't notice the new prices.
I seriously can't believe that Pure is already on clearance??? I would buy it for the PS3 but as much as I'm trying I just can't get used to the PS3 controllers. I still prefer the 360 but those games don't seem to get clearanced as quick as the PS3 versions.

So today I found the 120 gb hard drive for $99.99 at Best Buy. But before anyone goes racing up to BB, this was kind of a fluck. They had it marked at $99.99 but it rang up at the normal $149. But because the price tag was on it they let me have it. When I picked it up I thought it was funny how it was marked the same price as the 60 gb hard drive as they stood right next to each other.
So I returned the one I bought for $125 back to Target. Which means I now just have to get an arcade unit and I'll have a make shift Elite(I already have hdmi cables for it).

Mine does that too but they restock it atleast once every two weeks with stuff from the back and stuff that doesn't sell. How else could a copy of Fear for the 360 suddenly appear in the clearance section for $19.98 when the game hasn't been sold in this particular Target for atleast a year?

This thread is a bunch of LIES! lies I tell you. I live in Clearwater, FL and went this morning to CC, BB, Sears, Kmart, Target, Walmart and Radio Shack and found NOTHING, absolutely nothing. After Christmas sales my butthole!
haha, i'm so depressed, all I want is a new copy of heavenly sword for $20, or Fallout 3 for $30, is that too much to ask? (well maybe that second one)

Um.....you milelage will vary depending on the store you go to and the time you go there(after xmas is most likely NOT the best time to get deals because they were scooped up as gifts). Also, if you area really doesn't have anything good, perhaps consider asking someone else for something specific that they do have at their location. I'm sure there might be a small finders but atleast you'll have a better chance at getting what you want.

Fallout 3 (all formats) $39
NFS: Undercover (all formats) $39
and quite a few others.

My Target's were both pretty much empty in both the clearance and game cases(so was Wal-Mart) because of all the holiday gift buying. Something I find weird is this: how come Target stocks three game cases full of Wii games and only one for the 360 and one for the PS3? The 360 has the same amount of games as both the Wii and PS3 combined. Anyway, the three clearance items I did see at Target today:
Malice(PS2) $4.98
Spider-Man 3(360) $7.48
Elite Beat Agents(DS) $7.48

Having avoided the Xmas rush as much as possible for the last week or so, I ventured back to my Target today to find a few things:
Devil May Cry 4 (360) - still $14.98 but only ONE left, so i finally cracked and bought it.
AMF Bowling Pinbusters (Wii) - $3.74
Battle of the Bands (Wii) - $7.48
Hot Shots Golf (PS3) - $20.98
Patapon (PSP) - still $13.98 (will it ever go down again?)
Turok (360) - $29 still, but in clearance section?
Basically, the whole clearance section is becoming just a few titles, very few duplicates of each, as the world realizes that cheap games are still fun!
Just so you know, at Target, each department's clearance prices differ(may differ under certain specifications under the broad categories as well) as to how low they will go. From memory of an employee telling me before I believe the magic final clearance number for Electronics is 4($x.x4). But that is if memory serves me correct. (Which today it hasn't so much.)
If it is not a 4 then it is definitely an 8($x.x8). But something about the 4 rings a major bell.

All of Circuit City's $12.96-19.99 clearance games are on sale all this week(until Saturday) for $9.99. I bought from there:
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon(Xbox)
Fear Files(360)
There were many more games available for the Xbox, PS2, GC, DS, PSP, and 360. Go check your local Circuit City out.

My Circuit City sucks. Every time there is a major sale, all the employees wipe out the store and you'll see literally none of the clearanced games. The shelves are completely empty of clearanced games even if you get there as soon as the store opens.

I checked out a Circuit City this afternoon to check out the $9.96 clearance sale noted above. Not much left aside from sports titles and licensed crap, but I did manage to find something I wanted: Geometry Wars Galaxies for DS. :)
EDIT: Forgot to mention this CC's used game section. The last time I was at this location, it consisted of nothing but empty shelves, but they actually had a small selection of used titles this time around. However, most of the prices sucked. For example, they had the PS2 version of Test Drive Unlimited for $34.99. The new copies were $29.99, which isn't a good deal either, as I've spotted it for $5-$15 elsewhere. On the plus side, the GBA games were complete.

It all comes down to floorspace determined by what it selling/what is negotiated with the game companies. Right now, the Wii is selling tenfold what the PS3 is selling, and outselling the 360 4 or 5 to one. It is strictly a business move, what is selling. I do actually think that the Wii actually has alot more games coming for it(currently) than both systems. Now how many of them arent shovelware...that is another topic.

I've been debating picking up the Rock Band AC/DC expansion pack for the 360 at walmart for some time now and I heard they are starting to dry up, so since I was there today shopping for groceries, I looked at them. They had the standard game for $29.97 and the "Fan Pack" for $42.00. I asked the guy to look at the fan pack and saw that it included a Live DVD and T-shirt as well as the DVD. He check the price and it rang up the same as the regular game - $29.97! Don't know if this is a sale, clearance, or goof up but I'm happy with it!

Been to a couple different Target stores over the past few days and saw the GTA IV special edition at both for $44.98. Kinda strange that they're clearing this out now while the 360 version was put on clearance a few months ago.
Also, I just picked up Operation Darkness (360) at Best Buy today for $17.99. I don't know much about it other than it's a SRPG from Atlus, but it looks decent so I thought I'd give it a try. The in-store price is actually $29.99 and the online price is $17.99, but just ask and they'll adjust it for you.

BIG SCORE at Target today! The Playstation 3 GTA4 special edition packs around here have never dropped below the "clearance" price of $69.99 (from $89.99 original price) where they've been since before Halloween. I took a chance to go check and sure enough, they were $22.48! There were only the same two that have been there forever, one opened and one sealed, so I grabbed em. Now I have a player and a keeper.
Other notables:
GTA IV Special Edition (PS3) - $22.48
Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds (PS3) - $14.98
Jericho (Xbox 360) - $12.48
Hot Shots Golf (ps2) - $7.48
I picked up an NG2 today. At first it seemed that there were none left, as its slot on the shelf was plainly empty. I stuck around for a bit, though, and ended up finding one (which was probably hidden by another deal hunter) behind the Naruto game. Score!

Thanks for the heads up on that one. I got it tonight - the guy working the register had to go into the back to get it and was surprised how cheap it was.
And the guy didn't charge me sales tax (which is normally in downtown Minneapolis around 7.5%) since I used trade in credit, which was pretty cool.

Not a whole lot at my Target, as apparently the end of the year is the time for clearance, not the beginning of the year, but here's what I saw:
Jericho (360) - $12.48 - still about 20 of these. Reviews are terrible, so I passed.
Haze (PS3) - $20.98 - down from the $29.99 price. First time I've seen this discount, so I'll wait for a little longer
Transformers the Game (PS3) - $20.98, also down from $29.99.

I know there is probably a Circuit City closeout thread, but I haven't found it yet so I'm making a quick report here. I have two CC's left near me and they both have all games at a measly 10% off - not very good for a "Store Closing Clearance" I must say. But one of the stores has it's Accessories at 30% off, which isn't half bad. They were pretty cleaned out, but I did see these in stock at 30% off:
Dualshock 2 controllers - about $12 or so
PS3 Blu-Ray remote controls - $17.50 (I bought the only one)
Xbox 360 controllers - $35.00
All Microsoft Points and Xbox Live subscription cards at 30% off! They didn't have the 4000 point cards or 12 month cards, but I grabbed all of the 1600 point cards that they had, with each ringing up at $13.99! Find of the Day!!
