Target/Sears/Best Buy/Toys R Us/Kmart Discount and Clearance Video Game Sales

Clearance bins have been totally bought up around here.

For the most part, the majority of clearance games around here have been bought or moved/scattered thru out the store from fickle customers. Target did have a couple copies of Mirror's Edge(PS3) for $9.98. However, I bought 3 copies of the 360 version of that game for that price almost 6 months ago.

The best deals I've noticed lately on new games was Gamestop over the weekend. Even I'm still surprised by the deals. When you combined their cheap prices(after Xmas sale) with the $20 credit you get for trading in select games from a list of over a 100 titles, you could have gotten some really good deals. I got:

Stopped by Target today. Was hoping for some of the deals people have spotted, but saw none of them. Still, there were some stuff others may have liked.

Advance Wars: Days Of Ruin for about $14 (I think) and Lego Batman for PS3 for the same price were the only ones I memorized. They also had quite a few other games, but nothing I was really looking for and could remember that hasn't been mentioned.

Although thats not super low for the MW2 hardened edition, give it a few weeks or up to two months. Last year I got the limited edition of Halo Wars for $19.99 on clearance at Target when the regular version was still selling for $59.99(three months after they released).

Target is always the first to start clearancing limited/special editions so keep your eyes peeled for these deals. And one final piece of advice: ignore what price is on the game. Always double check it at the price scanners littered thru out the store. When I got that Halo Wars special edition it was in the clearance section marked down to $59.99 from it's original $79.99. But I scanned it and $19.99 popped up. Just keep that in mind and the same thing goes for Sears and FYE--they don't always pay attention to store price drops.

Usually the rule is go don't call, but if your only reason for going to Target is to check on the drops (and it is a decent trip), you're probably safer to call.

Just be sure to ask if they have the games in stock and their prices. That is probably better than asking if a game is on clearance.

There was literally a bajillion copies of Terminator Salvation. It must have sold very poorly. MUA2 also didn't sell very well so I'm looking forard to that dropping even lower. A few Target clearance games showed up at my local Goodwill again, mainly Quantum of Solace(360) marked down to $14.98 from it's last clearance price of $20.98.

I scanned Modern Warfare 2: Hardened edition and it's still at $55.98. When it gets lower I'm going to snatch it up. I'm still surprised Batman: Arkham Asylum's special edition hasn't been marked down anywhere yet. Thats uncanny considering how long ago it came out.

There really is no point in buying DVDs for full price when they come out. Their value just drops like a lead weight. Didn't those SNL sets originally retail for $70 or something crazy like that?

Yeah, $70 msrp but most places sell them for $50-$60 I think. I rarely buy new dvd's anymore though. Maybe 2 or 3 a year. Everything else I get now is either on clearance or used from the pawn shop or flea markets for $5 each. Just seems crazy to spend $20 on a new release now.

It looks like Target is back to clearancing an abundance of games again, specifically trying to get rid of extra holiday stock. Toys R US has a clearance bin but the best deals can be found when you just look thru the 360 and PS3 sections. Best Buy hasn't had any worthwhile clearances as of late. As for Sears and Kmart, it all depends on which one is near you. They both still have lots of clearance games but nothing that hasn't already been mentioned or thats dropped in price for some time. I'll keep ya posted.

I would wait because it should be getting another drop soon, probably around $99. Also keep in mind that while there may only be one or two on the shelf, they have atleast 2-6 in the back for each system. Or atleast thats how my three local Targets are. But if you are really anxious than paying half retail($125) isn't such a bad idea either.

My local Target has the Beatles Rock Band box set for $125, as well as the Band Hero box set for $99 (both for Xbox). Nothing else of interest. The clearance selection went to about nothing in a few days.

I was tempted to snag this just to sell it because I could without a doubt make atleast $30-40 selling it for $100 or more. But then theres the fact that the box is big as shit so that ups the shipping cost. Although I passed on it, I might ask next time I go if they have some 360 ones in the back because those will sell much better than the PS3 ones.

Again, I knew since xmas that these would be dropping in price as soon as the holidays were over. According to my contacts at Target, these bundles sold extremely poorly, even during the holidays. And the same thing is true with the Activision bundles(Guitar Hero, Band Hero, DJ Hero, etc). They are all on sale but none have hit as low as the Beatles bundles.

The Target I went to last night only had a few budget PC games on clearance. Most of the local Targets don't even do a second round of price drops on clearance games anymore - whatever doesn't sell after a while just goes straight to Goodwill.

The clothing clearances were good for a while, but things are beginning to dry up there as the winter stuff is all but gone. I recently bought two pairs of Levis jeans for just over $11.

Decent reductions at Best Buy. I didn't take the time to make a whole list, but there are 10 or so titles for both the 360 and PS3 that are $19.99 or less, including Brutal Legend and Terminator.

Also, there was a $14.99 and less bin near the front that had some PS3 stuff, Wii stuff and DS games. Nothing stood out, but some decent stuff for $10 - $15.

Today I can confirm that YMMV, as only one of my three local Targets was sporting those prices. When I saw those games at another Target today I scanned them just to make sure and they still ring up at the normal prices. They are also clearancing rechargable 360 batteries for $8.98.

I'm sure some of the other games were cheaper than what they were marked as well but I didn't check them. I wish they had a price scanner that customers could use like they do at Target. Speaking of Target, the deals I found were at another redesigned store. The second store had the old layout and thus no super deals.

That must have happened today. Some of those prices aren't really that reduced, since games like NGS2 was $20 last month, Hot Shots was $3 back then as well. Now Metroid did reduce $7 more from it's original liquidation price ($20), and I see it's somewhat in demand on both Ebay and Amazon...and my "local" Sears has them in stock as well...hmm...

But there are more games that reduced in price as well, but I won't be able to check until Saturday. :(

I figured more games were reduced. The second copy of NGS2 I found was still marked at $29.98 at a different store. I'm sure there were tons of games there marked $9.98-29.98 that were cheaper than $10 in actuality. Someone needs to make a list....someone who actually works in Sears who can check all the prices and write them down:wink 2:

I also left that copy of Gungrave there because the first game is one of the worst PS2 games of all time. And I doubt this one would have been any different.

For the MUA2 and the Star Wars game your mileage will vary. I was at four diffferent Targets today and only one of them was rocking those prices. The others had other stuff going on.

It's really bad. How you play the levels is weird and its a bit hard knowing what to do and how to do it to get the max points.

From the look of it, there are only 7 levels. Within each level (once beaten the first time) you've got alternate modes.... kill em fast, ninja sneaky ect, and I can only assume once you've beaten all modes for level 1, you go to level 2. I've only played into the first or second 'replay' of Level 1.

I like me some bad games, but this one is weird bad so far. Maybe i'll get used to the controls and 'get' whatever it is i'm not, but yea.....

I don't usually mention pc titles since the majority of pc gamers I know purchase their newer games digitally. But you are absolutely correct that Target has had some amazing pc deals over the last year or so. The only one I will mention is what I just saw a few days ago:

For some weird ass reason pretty much all of the older PS3 greatest hits titles have been clearanced to ridiculously low levels. Translation: it's a good time to own a PS3. I was surprised that Dragon Age was of equal price for the PS3 and 360 because the PS3 version of other games were cheaper(Beatles Rockband was $7.48 on the PS3 while the Wii version was still $20.98).

I'm not sure if all of this was because the PS3 games haven't been selling well or if it's because they have lots of back stock but this was the second time in the last two months where the PS3 received the lions share of the discounts. Of course, every single one of those titles will be snatched up next week during black friday so if you have a PS3 and a Target near you make sure to head there this week and let us know if you find any other cheap titles that weren't listed.

So if you are one of the few people who doesn't have one already grab them while you can. However, if your store has ten or more than you could also wait for the inevitable price drop to $49.98.

Some decent stuff and some so-so stuff. Target is definitely in clearance mode for not only their special/limited editions but also for certain accessories. I saw a DSi on clearance last week but didn't add it because it was still $115 or so. I'm going to go back on Friday to see if it's been lowered yet.

Every Best Buy I go to has their clearance games in different locations. Some keep them on the shelves with all the regular games but some have dedicated sections just for them. It always helps to take a walk around just to see if they have any good deals. And Kmart has much more than what I listed but most are marked down to only $20 so I didn't list them.

Also worth mentioning is that my Target is subsisting Donkey Kong Country Returns for Kirby Epic Yarn as they ran out of them. This means you can get it for $20 if your Target is doing the same.

The only thing I picked up out of this was Sly Cooper for my brother. MAG and Donkey Kong Country Returns tempted me, but I can't justify them with my backlog being the way it is.

I spotted Power Gig: Rise of the Six String bundle packs (guitar/game) for $24.99 at Best Buy. That's not bad, even if the game is shit. An actually playable instrument for $25 is a good deal.

I don't post PC deals since I don't game on PC but Target in general gets several really good deals all the time because not very many people buy physical copies of PC games(atleast not at Target) anymore so they just sit on shelves until they get clearanced. An example I can give you is the Oblivion/Bioshock PC Double pack. That got clearanced all the way down to $7.48. And GTA: Episodes From Liberty City was $9.98.

PC versions of games usually get clearanced first and they also get additional price reductions faster than console games. Just try your local Targets and also Goodwill because thats where many games end up if they don't sell at their final clearance markdown.

I waited a while before listing Target clearances since most of the stuff I had seen over the last two weeks have been lowered yet again. I'm personally still looking for a lower priced copy of MAG and Goldeneye limited edition.

I grabbed that copy of Elder Scrolls IV for trade in case someone happens to grab something I need. It appears that Target is trying to get rid of several PS3 greatest hits titles as well as the majority of Move titles along with other slow sellers/overstock. So it's another good time to snag some cheapy PS3 titles but the only things I really care about are the shooters.

Toys R Us has also done alot of clearancing but their remaining stock is pretty gimpy. But your best bet right now is Target. This is the time of year where they start clearancing 30-50% of their current stock to make room for incoming holiday games. I haven't kept this thread going much lately but I will make sure to keep posing the deals as I see them.

At $6.04 I almost grabbed Tony Hawk: Ride but I'm really not a fan of skating games and I really didn't want any more big ass peripherals sitting around collecting dust. I was disappointed that the Wii and PS3 versions of UFC: Personal Trainer were on clearance but the 360 version wasn't. I've been waiting to pick that one up. I'm not surprised Duke Nukem is already in the clearance bin. Target has it for $19.99 but they are never going to sell at that price. I might pick one up if it gets to $5 or so. And most of those Best Buy deals can actually be purchased online. So if your store doesn't have it you can have it sent directly to them for store pick up and save on shipping. Overall deals are starting to come in more. Best Buy has cheaper clearance prices for 360 games and Target has cheaper clearance prices for PS3 games.

I found Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation on DS today for $17.48. I have to wonder if these price drops are universally consistent. I've been in one store that had Dream Trigger 3D for $20.98 and the same store I got DQ VI from had it for $14.98 (should have bought it at that price). I've got a store near me that still has Steel Diver for full price it looks like. Well, they were still in the display and not tossed on the clearance racks.

For Target the answer is definitely no. I have three local Targets and a few non-local ones and they all march to the beat of different drums. For instance, some are selling Yoostar 2 for $20.98 and I got mine for $8.98 at one location. And the same can be said for pretty much all of their games.

The prices I listed for Best Buy are universal for all stores, which is why I said you can also use their website to get those prices online. Walmart is also pretty consistent but you will also find cases where some stores are cheaper than others with their clearances.

It definitely pays to shop around and since I usually don't open my games until after I've had them awhile, when ever I see cheaper prices I just buy the cheaper version and take the more expensive version back. Target and Walmart are good for that because you get 2-3 months to return unopened items. But Best Buy only gives you 30 days(45 if you are a Rewards Zone silver member).

And Fallout: NV must have really sucked because it wasn't even selling at $10. I remember not too long after that game came out it was $20 everywhere. Even at $6 I passed on it. I'm waiting for Assassins Creed 2 and Halo Wars to both get clearances below their current $14 price. And this was another reminder for me to not pick up almost any game for $20. That use to be the rule but now I can actually get them cheaper than $20 if I wait around for Target's clearance sales. I can't wait until they start clearancing Vita titles.
