We did it for PS2 and GameCube and we'll have a running list going for as long as we're alive, so here's the Xbox version. These threads should be especially handy to people who got their systems recently and want to start out with the "A List" of games to pick from.

So let's start the "A List". What would you add to it?

NOTE: * = exclusive to this system (for now)

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Bloodrayne
Breakdown
Buffy the Vampire Slayer *
Burnout (series)
Call of Duty
Colin McRae Rally 04 *
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
Dead Or Alive 3
Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes *
ESPN MLB 2k5
ESPN NFL 2k5

Add Gunvalkyrie. It's awesome. It's challenging. It's like Burning Rangers, Panzer Dragoon, Metroid, and Starship Troopers diced, mixed, and served on a bed of gorgeous visual panache with a side of retro-futuristic steampunk atmosphere. It's so impressive, it inspires me to write hokey descriptions like the previous sentence.

Yeah some of you could see this coming for miles.. but what I'm playing THE MOST on the xbox? Dracula X, Shining Force CD, Zookeeper, and Gates of Thunder. They are the 4 games currently in rotation getting the most playtime on the awesome awesome XBOX. It's pure gaming bliss I gots to tell ya.

But back to the subject at hand.. The Xbox-native "A" list titles. To be quite honest.. to me, they all kinda suck! :P But if I had to choose, I guess it would be Halo, and umm.. Panzer Dragoon.

I would add Sega GT 2002, NHL Hitz 20-02, Hunter: The Reckoning, and Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, as far as what I've played.

Why didn't anyone suggest Dead or Alive 3, Capcom vs. SNK 2, or Unreal Championship? I haven't played them, but they all got high ratings...

Gunvalkryie sucks. The controls are stiff and badly placed.

Jet Set Radio Future
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Unbelievably underrated platformer!)

Blockbuster is having a 25% off any used game right now, and I noticed they had Buffy the vampire slayer used!! I could have gotten it for around $11, but I have never been a huge fan of the TV series. Does the game only appeal to "buffy fans", or would those of us that aren't fans like the game?? You all seem very high on this game, so should I go back and get it??

We must add Return to Castle Wolfenstien: Tides of War. The brillancey of this game is only superceeded by its outrageously fun online play. There are also many new levesl, enemies, and multiplayer features that are exclusive to the xbox version. Very enjoyable, I must say.

I'd add FIFA Soccer 2003 - easily the best soccer game on the Xbox and arguably the best on any system right now. I haven't played FIFA 2004 so I don't know whether the series will improve any more...

I'd also add Time Splitters 2 - personally, I prefer the Gamecube version (I prefer the control layout for some reason) but the Xbox version does have a higher frame rate and WAY faster load times. Plus, it's just a great game all around. It's no Halo, but it's still great fun, especially in multiplayer.

On christmas day...
i really want to beat toejam and earl 3.
Besides watching my father die on christmas day in 1993...
the second worse thing happened last year.

Last year,, right before christmas i was almost killed in a car accident.
My xbox with that game inside it were destroyed by the impact and
the snow that filled my car after.

Im expecting nobody over my house for xmas ..
I might cook.. but one thing i promised myself for the last 3 months
is that id like to get another xbox and finish that game.

Damn, I'm sorry you've had some bad holiday experiences. I hope you got another Xbox & beat your game like you wanted.

Back on topic, I'm going to stick to exclusives, but my votes go to:

-Panzer Dragoon Orta: a cinematic and orchestral experience all around, with a visual style you'll only find in the PD series.

-Rallisport: Easily, my favorite racing game of all time. PERFECT control. Not too sim-like, not too arcadey, visuals that are almost photo-realistic, and awesome physics. IMO a pinnacle of racing games.

-MechAssault: Fun single-player experience, completely addictive online, one hell of a FUN game, with enough strategy to keep you playing.

-Halo: Obviously

Yeah, that kicks ass they incuded Wolf3D on the disc. What would REALLY kick freaking serious ass is if the original DOOM and DOOM II were on the DOOM 3 disc. I mean, COME ON! Until now, there hasn't been ONE single perfect DOOM port on a console. Now would be the chance. I'd probably find myself playing that more. Especially if it had LIVE Deathmatching and Co-op. (Seeing as DOOM 3 is delayed for Xbox, it's probably not too late to flood id with letters.)

After finally feeling like I've played enough to post...

Metal Slug 3 needs to stay for sure.

If you are going for strictly things you can go buy (as there was with GTA Combo Pack), I would have to suggest making it Jet Set Radio Future / Sega GT combo. That's the best deal there is for the system.

Shenmue II isn't an Xbox exclusive if you include the Dreamcast version. Import only though.

NFL 2K5 is awesome and I've put more time into it than any new game lately. I'd also add it.

That's it for now!

I"m adding Call of Duty to this list.

I only played a demo level on the PC and was blown away. While I'm sure the Xbox version doesn't quite live up to the PC experience, I must say that I am VERY impressed with this game. I really like the fact that you change characters and countries frequently and the game presents a holistic war-time environment from a number of different storylines.

The first night I played it I had the surround sound up very high and the feeling of being right in the thick of battle was very well simulated. It's also a great looking game, with lots going on at all times and nary a sign of processing lag.

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath - easily one of the best games of the generation

Grabbed by the Ghoulies - maybe a personal quirk of mine, but I love it

Dai Senryaku VII - can't stand up to PC hex games, but still awesome for a console

Top Spin - I don't play many sports games, but this one is too good to miss

Otogi series - great art direction

Silent Hill series - elevated video gaming a step closer to true art

Fable - great art direction, tone, and concept

Morrowind - Not as good as the PC version, but a great rpg

I had bought Star Wars KOTOR on it's release date and did NOT like the game, even though I'm an RPG and Star Wars fan and was waiting for the game more than any other at the time. I got rid of it ASAP. Last week I decided to buy it and give it one more try and after 30 hours into it I really like the game and can hardly wait to pick up the sequel.

The problem with KOTOR is that it started out so damned slow and boring. Once I was off of Taris and hit Dantooine I was hooked. I still find that the battle engine can be clunky at times and the rest of your party will often get lost and run across a map in the opposite direction when engaging, since the AI seems to want to take the shortest route to an enemy...even if it means trying to run through or around walls.

Other than that it's becoming a fast favorite.

I finished Fable last week and loved it. Sudeki is next after KOTOR.

UPDATED today. I second Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath! It's a great game. Great, unique look, loaded with personality and humor, and it's got all of the stuff that Oddworld Inhabitants have always done so well. Only THIS time, it's not a platformer. Bravo.

Finally finished KotOR last night and can hardly wait to do a dark side run. I'm going to fire up Sudeki in a few minutes.

I also can hardly wait to settle in and play Stranger's Wrath. It's going to be great.

A week or so ago, I bought Major League Baseball 2K5, mostly on Joe's recommendation, and have been enjoying it a great deal. It already rivals MVP Baseball as my favorite baseball series on the XBox. If I have one quibble (and it's a minor one) it's that the music is sometimes too loud and tends to drown out the announcers.

A lot of you are listing games exclusive to xbox and that makes good sense and all, but no one is listing my favorites.
Besides the Halo series here is some of the best not mentioned much.
Best Shooter (not counting Halo): Red Dead Revolver
The single player game is great with lots of replay value. The multiplayer is great, because you can play with computer opponents, tons of character selection, neat maps and new players learn quickly.
Best RPG: Gladius
Very deep gameplay. You don't watch, you play. Must have.
Best Party Game: Fuzion Frenzy
Best Kiddie Game: Blinx
Cute and easy to get into.
Best Puzzle Game: Bust a Move
Really just Bust a Move without the lizards. The only other alternative is KLAX in the midway classic set.
Best Fighting Game: Soul Calibur 2. Easy to pick up and play with friends.
Best Brawler: Dynasty Warriors 4. If you miss running around beating the crap out of people, think Soul Calibur action/adventure.
Best Racing Game: Project Gotham Racing 2 is cool, but that forza motorsport looks nice. never played.

Maybe not all time favorites... but Mercenaries was like what would happen if you set GTA in North Korea. It was way easier to complete than the GTA games for me, partly because it's not so ADD-friendly. And although not an original XBOX game, and a game that has little replay value... Half Life 2... which you can get @ CC for under $10 right now. Best integration of cinematics and gameplay on a game ever... Well that I've played... The load times are a little annoying, but total immersion in gameplay and story (when not loading).

Yeah, I am definitely getting Outrun 2006. The other two games seem awesome also. How about Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition Remix, Need For Speed Most Wanted and Need For Speed Carbon? Which is better: Burnout 3 or Burnout Revenge, and why? XBox has a lot of good racing games. Perhaps I should skip out on Forza and other sim titles since I'm more into arcade type racers anyway. Well, Ghostdog, as far as playing several games on your list... here are a few of my dislikes- only because you asked (some may agree, some may disagree). Hunter: The Reckoning, kinda cool at first, but really gets repetitive after a bit. I got tired of all the button mashing and blowing away hordes of the same enemies that just keep respawing. It has a very coin-op, quarter-muncher feel. I got to a certain boss about halfway through the game, couldn't beat it- and because it was so repetitive, didn't feel like playing it any more. Jet Set Radio... played the 1st stage, and it didn't do much for me. Like a Tony Hawk mixed with anime. I had the double game set with Sega GT 2002 and wound up playing the GT game more. Outrun 2006: Coast to Coast is cool as long as you don't like realism in your racing games.

And as a recommedation, only because it's so cheap and in 720p- try out Cold Fear. Good survival horror (only if you like the genre) game, set on a ship. I found it for 6.00 at a recent circuit city sale.

I appreciate your comments. Yeah, Hunter doesn't seem all that great but I just threw it in that list just in case. I won't end up getting it since I just have too many other games I want. I'll probably like Jet Set Radio Future since I own Jet Grind Radio for Dreamcast and love it. Also, it only costs $2 so I don't have much to lose. I love arcade racing titles so Outrun 2006 will be a blast. Let's weed out this list people!

I was glancing at the list on page 1 of this thread...I count 48 titles...I think we need 2 more...but there are really only 47 titles, I think. There are two games listed that I think are really the same game but the titles as listed are slightly different...ESPN MLB 2k5 and Major League Baseball 2K5 (ESPN). So one of those should be removed...and maybe have 3 more added to bring it up to a full 50 titles.

I didn't see Stubbs the Zombie or Ninja Gaiden Black mentioned anywhere in the first page...

Ninja Gaiden Black was superior to the first in every way... it was literally the first game reskinned with upgraded AI (so you couldn't spam the flying sparrow over and over for cheap wins), along with the addition of 50 missions in "mission mode", which unlocks after you beat the game.
