Style/Genre: Platform/Shooter/Action. Click to see other games of this type.

Released: 08/87. ©1986 Nintendo. (USA)

Part Number: NES-MT-USA.

Santulli Slant: Not just another side-view platform game, this was THE side-view platform game of its time, and dozens of other NES games attempted with varying success to capture its style. Ah, Ridley, Kraid and Mother Brain how we love you. PS Samus jumps like a girl. [Gr: 7, So: 7, Ga: 9, Ov: 8]

Landmarks: Kid Icarus and Metroid, released on the same day in 1987, were the first games to use the "password" system that allows players to continue where they left off.

Easter Eggs: a) For extra high jumps, hold Right on controller 2, then jump as usual with the A button. b) Enter your name as JUSTIN BAILEY (leave dashes in the other places) to start as Samus with no armor and maxed-out weapons.

Periodicals: Listed as one of the "99 Favorite Classics" by Digital Press in 1997. Received honorable mention as "Best Adventure Video Game of 1988" by VG&CE.
