| Designed by Larry Kaplan. Description: Based on the 1975 Atari; 1976 Midway coin-op. The tentative title for this game was "Anti-Aircraft" (it was based on the Atari coin-op game by the same name). One of the few games in which the audio was programmed for stereo output. It was re-released in 1986 where a label variation incorrectly states "for use with paddles". This typo may even be covered by corporate black tape! Released: 1977. ©1977 Atari, Inc.. (USA) Part Number: CX2602. Santulli Slant: What better way to cool off this summer than to lay waste to some of the military's finest war machines? Forget Speed II - Air-Sea Battle features ships blasting at planes, planes bombing ships, and even a few ducks and bunnies. Everything but Sandra Bullock in this action-packed classic! Come to think of it, so many memorable moments came from this game that it actually brings a tear to my eye to think back to the days when it was the "bomb" of video gaming. Most everyone I talk to feels the same way- didn't most of us cut our teeth on this game? Didn't EVERYONE own it? Also notable as the place where the 'ol "ship vs. plane" debate was finally resolved. Lots of variations despite its primitive goal - and still a decent two player game. [Gr: 3, So: 3, Ga: 4, Ov: 4] Landmarks: One of the original nine titles released at the same time as the first Atari VCS consoles hit the store shelves, and the only ones released with the more-rare 'gatefold' box.
